Shadow Chester upgrade

Recommended Posts

Well, Shadow Chester is coming out. We reached the goal.

But would he actually be worth getting in-game?

You insert 9 Nightmare Fuel to convert him into Shadow Chester which has 12 inventory slots.

While it's nice to have three more slots to put in junk, I feel that the upgrade isn't really worth it until you have everything you can have from Nightmare Fuel and by then Shadow Chester won't really be as useful, not to mention it won't really be worth it getting the nightmare fuel to convert him except for vanity.

I was thinking, how about he picks up things he already has?

For example, you give him 1 charcoal, then burn down a forest and start chopping down trees. Instead of having to collect them all individually, Shadow Chester automatically picks them up and they stack up inside him.

That would be a really useful and fun upgrade when converting him into Shadow Chester.

Or at least perhaps give him a health boost? Many use him as a meat shield since he's somewhat tolerant but if he was even more so, it'd just be better.

But maybe it's just me that finds three more inventory spaces not to be all that special.

I wanted us to discuss the actual usefulness of upgraded Chester 'fore he is actually in the game so that they won't have to insert something they might later on change because enough players wanted an update to it.

I think it's what you said, more for vanity than anything else. I'd get a Shadow Chester just because. And 3 more inventory slots aren't anything to scoff at.

Chester used to have less health and never regen any in the past, he's practically a tank now. And he used to respawn in a week, if I'm not wrong. Imo, he's useful enough as he is (*cough* a meatshield).

I know he's real tough now compared to what he once was, but he wasn't really designed to be a meatshield.

I just thought that an upgraded, shadow form would logically be tougher than a "normal" one, so it'd make sense to make him even stronger - even if it's just a small 5% extra health regen it'd be a nice stat upgrade, doesn't have to be double health or anything so extreme.

Trust me, later on in the game you'll be swimming in Nightmare Fuel.

As someone who doesn't use backpacks later on, this is really great.

Well, people with Krampus sack tend to have plenty of space remaining and even if they fill the entire thing for some not so clever reason, there's a chester with 9 spaces which is plenty.

More spaces isn't really what everyone needs.

At the start of the game, yeah, inventory management is messy as hell and you always want more spaces but after you get the larger backpacks it's nothing you think about.

But you don't get Shadow Chester early on.

Focus on the "As someone who doesn't use backpacks" part. :)

Also last I checked a very small percentage of people have Krampus Sack...so...

But yeah, being able to grab stuff wouldn't hurt...

I haven't said to replace the 12 spaces though. I don't mind it, but it's really not much of an advantage to many people who are far enough in the game to get Shadow Chester.

I just mean that he could have more to him than just the 12 spaces so that he is actually useful to all kinds of players who use him.

Man, really curious about the stickers. I wonder what they'll be of.

I totally want more spaces.  I can carry more loot away, and don't have to leave anything behind.

It said to get the upgrade Chester had to be 'full' of nightmare fuel.  Does that mean 9 or 360?

I thought they meant one in every slot.

360 Would be nuts for only three spaces..

It would be a lot, but after exploring a few ruins I had to stop collecting it after I filled the first chest.  It's not that hard to accumulate anymore.

Well I'll probably not convert my chester if it's 360 nightmare fuel, I rather hold onto it.

I'll just settle with my plush Shadow Chester, three spaces is really not worth all that much.

I think the shadow chester is a good opportunity to tweak the regular chester.

Chester should be nerfed, reducing his health/health regeneration and increasing his respawn time (maybe back to one one), and then only shadow chester would be slightly weaker than the current one.

I was browsing through the RPG HUD versions to find a piece of code and I think you're right now. That mod gives Chester 16 slots. People that use it (a lot do) won't find a big advantage out of the current Shadow Chester. Auto-collection of items is the way to go, I guess.

You can say that to every single suggestion in the suggestion forum, if it's related to the game.

"I think it'd be nice to have this thing in the game bec- GEEZ JUST GET IT MODDED IN"

I wasn't intending to look offensive, jeez.

the main reason I said that as it'd be quicker than waiting for an official response and/or change
