What is the best way to manage Woodie's Curse?

Recommended Posts

Okay, let's try something else. Suppose you had no silk onhand, and there were no spider nests within a reasonable distance. What now?

Delete the save and go back to Wolfgang because Woodie is apparently a bad character.

Perhaps befriending pigs, in that scenario? Give you something for a sanity boost. Smart thing to do would be butcher something that can bear meat while werebeavered, then use that meat to befriend some pigs, and bask in the positive sanity aura.

Just hunt one extra koalaphents and sleep in a tent. 2 meaty stews, or honey ham, or whatever you please plus the sanity and health buff of the tent and you're golden. If you have two full moons in a row (which tends to happen) dont do anything stupid or risky after the first day, go beaver again, then heal up after. Or just go down into a cave if that really does prevent "the beavering", hang out for the night, came back out during the day! Problem solved.

Edit: with no silk for a tent you can still use either straw rolls for the sanity, or just hang out in the cave.

And how do you do this when not with any found silk? Are you assuming somehow you'd found every other resource and set up a base?

If I played as Woodie and was a Were-beaver, I would personally chop down as many trees as possible without eating any of them so when I wake up I have LOTS of wood.

*chuckle*

@_@ Well, mmm duh. We're talking about the hard to manage part. The aftereffects.

But what if there's no silk? No silk=bug nets. No bug nets= no bee boxes. Which makes honey very hard to get.

you do know there are other alternatives for healing, dragonpie, raw corn isn't that bad and probably the best one Butterfly wings they are plentiful and give back a decent amount of health

True. If you can find plenty of beefalo, farms might be the ticket. Butterflies are hard to get without a net.

Thought I missed something there for a moment. Like a Honey Ham set piece in caves :-)

Lol. That would be epic.

well then its just attacking them during the idle anims

Speaking as a person who had to re-learn how to manage Wolfgang at the beginning, it's not easy to run around chasing butterflies waiting for them to be idle without losing other resources and time early game. If lucky, you can be near and run up and get one or two...but that time spent adds up

that is true I've spent quite some time chasing them down

Well, honey ham is difficult without an established base, but meaty stew is easy, the cave requires no silk, and if you have no silk for a tent go for the sleeping roll instead like I said in the edit. In summary 1 extra koalaphent and any sleeping device will fill sanity and hunger pains, or just go stay the night in the cave.

So it's entirely doable without silk. I apologize if I misunderstood your question though.

No problem. And yes, it IS possible, I know. Just tricky.

Yea it can be difficult. Health recovery is always the hardest for me.

I don't have a ton of experience with woody but I hear his curse is a boon at the beginning if used well, and more than a bit annoying late game, as it just becomes micromanagement.

Woodie's curse will initially aggravate the crap out of you on the first playthrough. Especially when you don't realize that full moons trigger it. It's only useful early on if you are REALLY well-set on supplies and/or have a problem that needs to "go away" somehow(Like a few walls of spider dens. Also, the fact that if you chop too many trees at once, you turn anyways. Puts a damper on how much wood-gathering can be done in a day.

Five drying racks + ten bunnies + the two days before the full moon + refridgerator (or even a chest tbh)

Ten small jerky nets 125 hunger, 100 sanity, 80 health. Post-rampage stats recovered to full hunger, 150 sanity, 130 health. Assume one meat effigy and a top hat and I declare Woodie recovered.

Now to spend the next five days playing pickup (my Woodie tends to rampage far and wide)

Read the damn posts, he's having trouble with silk, nevermind gears.

Silk is easy to get. What, did you turn spiders off? Once you set up some pig houses near frogs, scrap up the courage to kill beefalo, and make a 4 or five bug nets, you can have honey ham by day 35 atleast.

(I'm just doing some unofficial quick calculations I could be totally wrong)

But REALLY early, I do recommend jerky.

I've had bad luck with spiders at the best of times. But yeah, jerky works. Perhaps kill beefalo and make full jerky.
