How do YOU suvive?

Day - Don't die.
Night - Get a source of light.

Well...unless you give a specific scenario? xD

I basically start off just hoarding all resources (don't pick carrots, those are emergency food). I spend the first few nights running around with a torch, surviving off berries/seeds. Spend mostly dusk/night clearing all the bushes so turkeys don't bother. Once I'm happy with a spot, go there and start preparing for winter (typical crockpot, bee boxes, drying racks, ...).

Preferably settle near bunny holes, but it isn't that hard to get food once you know where to find food.

I eat food. Also during Winter I stay warm. During Night I make sure there's light.

For a serious answer, during mid-game I live off Monster Jerky, though if I can make a base near a pond I will so as to make Fishsticks all the time. Only thing I can think of that's a specific preference of mine.

Don't do stupid things.

Don't get caught at night without a light source.

Don't wander away from fire at winter if you have no winter clothing or at least a heat stone (even more important if it's snowing)

Don't attack things you are not sure you can kill or run away from safe.

Meat effigy, Life giving amulet.

I survive badly

Seriously, like many and I have said before:

    • Not eating carrots, saving them for winter or emergencies (if you made a new world that spawned very few bushes where you started, that may require picking that region's carrots before winter for example if you can't find anything else by the third day.)
    • Living off of berries and seeds early on (Wolfgang however may require additional things like butterflies and staying normal or "wimpy" and not "mighty" until base established; thanks to Teo for Wolfgang advice.)
    • Picking the berries and planning for Gobblers to pop out and luring them with a dropped berry to kill them, same with rabbits.
    • Trying to keep the drumsticks until I can establish a base with a crockpot up to several days later for the turkey dinner (now that they drop 2 drumsticks, it's very easy and the healing and hunger rate is much better than the 2 morsel-level drumsticks alone,) or cooking and eating if if unlucky with finding enough gold (apparently cooked drumsticks can't make a turkey dinner anymore.)
    • If I only find a couple of gold early on, making a science machine for an immediate backpack, logsuit, spear and hammer (to break down the science machine) for protection.
    • Sometimes I (see above) pre-build a chest and sign to note things and immediately store things when I do make a base (the former to continue quickly and not waste a quarter of a day chopping trees, refining and being back at a base having to prototype it; the latter really helps me go back for stuff I can't pick up due to room and/or for what I can't use until I have advanced structures.)
    • When I have a base (built it near pigs, grasslands,  and/or Beefalo;) I make several crock pots and drying racks. Even if I couldn't immediately get meat easily at first then, morsels can be dried for small jerky which helps with sanity. Also stores much better, especially if you don't find gears for the ice box in time for your first winter.  That shouldn't be an issue though if you simply remember to fight meat-dropping creatures (not morsel) by making sure you draw one out and fight it alone and not fight it in a pack/herd. This also works for monster meat spiders/hounds which work wonders for monster jerky/crockpot meat recipes.
    • Finally always always always have a heat stone for winter, especially if you didn't find Beefalo for winter headgear in time, even if you are using rabbit earmuffs or body winter clothing from the Koalaphant  (if you have to explore for them during winter days.  But that is now pretty rare for me being more advanced.  However newer players may want to do this while they improve their exploration.)

But if you have specific problems, please list them so players can give you specific tips.
