bees.. always the bees...

Spider queens.

I have a world with a field of killer bees. I just never did anything about the multitude of spiders nearby. I let the spider queens wander that way, maybe giving them a little bit of a push, and then kill the hive while she's busy with the bees.

All my bee boxes have killer bee honeycombs.

Sounds like what you do is get followers/angry aggressive other mobs or mob bosses and gank the hives while they  are occupied with the bees. But I to find it easy to kill multiple spider nests and hard as heck to kill multiple beehives in one close area.

I so hate the [censored] killer bees!

I had to, you understand.

On topic, I love Killer Bee fields. I mean I hate Killer Bee fields, don't get me wrong, but they are amazing for taking out hostile mobs. I've been able to use them to reap the loot from Treeguards, Koalefants, Spider Queens, Chess Pieces and yes, even Frogs! Unlike using Pigs or Spiders to take down a troublesome enemy Killer Bees will never eat the meat left behind.

It's easy enough to navigate through a field of them. How did you manage on the Darkness chapter of Adventure Mode, in the event that there was a field of killer bees as a blockade?

If their concentration is too dense in one area, let them attack, dodge, then immediately push through. While they're "kiting" like pigs do, it gives you an opening. If you're not comfortable with this, trigger all the hives and run away, then outrun them back to their hives and past them.

Overall, lureplants are the best way of dealing with them. You can selectively destroy the killer bee hives while being able to harvest the bee hives as well.

I'm actually not sure how effective beekeeper hats are now, since the update causing them to stun your character upon hit.

I used to hate them until I figured out what fun I could have with the red bees. Freebee mines. xD I never tried to use the beekeeper hats, logsuits do well enough for me.

Maybe someone can help me with my problem.  Between me and the chess piece biome stands a field brimming full of level 3 spiders nests.  The killer bee biome is on the other side of the map.  However, next in the field just before the chess piece biome is a biome that has quite  a few honey bee nests. Any ideas for me?  WIll the honey bees attack the spiders if they come into their biome?

A map screenshot would help :]

But to answer your question: The yellow bees don't. Red bees are aggressive towards anything, those are the killer bees.

Burn the nests. Use pigs or rock lobstersto clear the spiders.

I've encountered one of these ridiculous soldier bee clusters as well! I was thinking of leading all the soldier bees out of their hives, using a pan flute, setting down some gunpowder and blowing them all up. The only problem is that they eventually go back to their hives after I move away too far (from the hives themselves, not the soldier bees) so I can't get all of them in one place.

Here's one I did last night.

Bring a treeguard.

No, seriously. Either spawn or reaggro an active treeguard, wait the month for it to follow you where you want it to go, then annoy the bees. Cross their paths and the treeguard will slay all the bees. While it's got them all busy, take out the hive.

Isn't a Lureplant easier than that?

Sometimes when Im out stomping hives for honeycomb I capture the killer bees too.  You can't make bee mines with them, but you can drop a whole stack of them and run.  It's hilarious watching a large group of pretty much anything fight them.

I've done this. Problem is (while not as rare as Krampus' Sack drop rate) Treeguards are rare to spawn. It's impractical to try and spawn one, hope it's close enough or lure it the rest of the way to the target if not.

Eaiser maybe. But no where near as satisfying.

Indeed. But as noted, fire burning is a much easier way. Also, a torch or fire darts work until you're more powerful to tank it if you can't kite that number. (A fire staff requires a Shadow Manipulator and if you have that, you shouldn't have problems with those nests by then.)

That implies one wouldn't want to build 40 bee boxes with the drops :I

Sorry, meant the instructions for the Killer Bee hive/wasp's nests for those who want to simply destroy them. But hey, if you can and want to build boxes from it, by all means, use a less...invasive way. Just after 4-5 regular beehive nests built into boxes...do you really need the honey any more?

you forget those ones who think they have won the game by living off honey.... and nothing else =P

True, but can't you do that with five or six boxes max...by the gods, when I go up to three slots of fully stacked honey, even I am satisfied if I want to live off it...or make taffy ;)
