Dr. Yokai
So after your character dies, you gain experience based on how many days your character survived, and that experience goes towards unlocking the next character. I've noticed that, from the main menu, there are three options that confuse me a bit on something: "Continue", "New Game", "Make New World." Continue, obviously, put's you back into your previously played characters shoes, and New Game lets you create a new character and start from scratch, but I was wondering; if I were to click "Make New World", would it have any effect on my character unlock progress? Would I have to start over from Wilson, or would it have no effect at all? And what does this feature do exactly, because I don't want to try it until I'm certain on what it will do.Thanks. Syd
You won't lose anything. You keep all your progress on unlocked characters and research when you generate a new world.
Dr. Yokai
Well alright then, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thanks a ton.
NeedPants
This will change in January tho. First of all research points will be removed in favor of a prototype system, and from that moment, every new game u start (permanent death, no effigees no amulet) or if u press "create new world", all ur tech will be reset to 0. Marak
Eh, we don't know that for sure Pants. I don't remember Kevin saying anything about Meta Research (keeping item unlocks between character and worlds) being removed. Aside from that, we don't even know if the Prototype system is what we'll end up with: the Dev team is kicking around a number of "solutions" to the current, too-grindy research system, and even they aren't sure which one will win out to appear in the scheduled-for-January research overhaul.Edit: see this interview that was posted recently - 20+ minutes of Kevin talking about future changes to Don't Starve! DFox
"Create New World" - is an option to generate a different world than you're playing, usually because the world is always the same if not generate here. If you want to change the world, use this option when you die. You do not lose things unlocked, but it is the same thing as giving "New Game" which only creates a different world. =]
