Paul Moore
I thought Deerclops should only stay for a short while, smash up a bit of your stuff, then leave. A huge pain, but not exactly terrifying... I've just had an encounter with Deerclops where he appeared, then proceeded to stay around my camp until he had successfully smashed everything. I couldn't find any way of getting rid of him, until basically winter ended (and there was nothing left for him to smash ) Is this normal behaviour or was I being picked on...?Paul Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28092-deerclops-wouldnt-go-away/ Share on other sites

Boar Head
It's normal. What you should do is get his aggro, lead him away from the camp and then run away for 30 seconds or so and he will lose aggro. Then go home. Or you could move away from your camp when you get the warnings and when he does spawn run back to base. Paul Moore
Thanks for the advice. I'll try that next time. the truthseeker
He's just pissed 'cause he's so myopic! Kill him or wait until spring. As noted, when you hear the first roar, go somewhere, anywhere else but where you can't handle him swinging like a hammer at stuff. A forward operating base with only a fire pit and chest is a good example; a pig village somewhere not too close to base where you planned to make new pig houses yourself from hammered houses but saved hammer durability is another. psyk90913
Why don't you face to face it instead of hiding? The more your time hiding the more chance he smashed some part of your base. This is my solution for deerclop: I setup signs around my base. Whenever I hear Deerclop slamming sound I can walk around to check what sign was destroyed so I can know exactly what direction Deerclop was wandering. Once found, kill it before it smash my base. TeoSS69
As noted, when you hear the first roar, go somewhere, anywhere else but where you can't handle him swinging like a hammer at stuff.Deerclops spawns when you hear the first roar, so moving away will make you avoid him but if you were at your base at the time you'll come back to some smashed pottery. lunchb0x
Deerclops can be a bit of a nuisance but he's not too hard to fight. I'm just past day 100 on a new wolfgang run and I have Deerclops and Treeguards set to lots. My most recent winter after caving for a few days I come back to a Deerclops destroying my bee hives and two of my farms are destroyed! I fire a blowdart to get his attention and then grab my recently acquired shelmet to do battle. Next day after putting away my loot I hear Deerclops again...I can never tell what direction he's coming from and by the time I find him he's destroyed 3 of my dry racks. Blowdart again and bash him with mighty wolfgang. My sanity dips because of the fight and I have to fight a Terrorbeak and walking nightmare around my campfire to get my sanity back. Finally settling in and rebuilding my farms and dry racks when I hear him again! 3 times in three days, he heads straight for my bee boxes and takes down another 2 before I can draw his aggro and kill him. Luckily the next day was summer...I feared it was a glitch and I would have to relocate my base... 6 Bee boxes, 3 dry racks and 2 farms destroyed, but I now have 5 deerclops eyeballs to make houndious shootious' when I find the ruins. Cynical Cynicist
Is his spawning random, or is his path along the island always simulated even outside of your view? Because it would suck to get settled into a base that's right in the middle of it...
