Cynical Cynicist
I just encountered a field of berry bushes surrounded by 8 pig torches on its corners. How to proceed? (e.g., amount of space between the torch and walls around it while the guardian is dead, what to do during full moons, how many torches you keep up because 8 might be overdoing it, etc.) Also, it's relatively near a walrus camp, which is in-between the torches and a field of killer bees hives. I'd prefer infinite light though. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28085-advice-on-using-pig-torches/ Share on other sites
TeoSS69
I'd use them against the Walrus. Infinite light is no big deal and you'd have to camp out every full moon.Edit : Because only now i noticed i did a typo. gummie
Its you're choice whether make it as your camp or use it to kill other hostile mobs such as your walrus camp near by. Though I doubt you could camp near those pesky walruses. Me I used them as my light source during summer time. I had to decimate most of them since the other torch are in the middle of the field, before I build my camp over there. For the werepigs every fullmoon, they have howling animation before they start tearing walls apart so do attack them with light weaponry to focus on you, repeat same thing if they howl again. Oh, I love those moments of near danger. I miss them so much. Cynical Cynicist
Hmmmm, is there any way to safely harvest the berry bushes (that were originally there so they don't have to be fertilized), while still allowing the guardian pigs to attack any nearby mobs? A nearby spider den you put there yourself could do the trick once it is tier 2, as the 6 spiders total should keep them occupied once they know of each other's existance Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28085-advice-on-using-pig-torches/#findComment-328488 Share on other sites
the truthseeker
Would lureplants work? Never tried them on guardian pigs. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28085-advice-on-using-pig-torches/#findComment-328928 Share on other sites
Ridley
Would lureplants work? Never tried them on guardian pigs. Yes but it would mean a lureplant would be plucking the berry bushes and you would have to fight a lureplant to use the torches after it finishes dealing with the pigs. Normal pigs will go after the lureplants lure, guardian pigs do not pick up food. Cynical Cynicist
I think I will try placing 4 Pig Houses on each corner of the berry bush field. Because Pigs and Pig Guardians have similar health (250 and 300), in addition their kiting mechanics, I think they will be preoccupied with each other long enough to gather berries unscathed. However, this probably means that any meat or pig skin dropped will be consumed unless I'm there to intervene. I considered Bunnymen, but they only have 200 health and run straight at their targets (and even if they run away from the Pig Guardians, they will always stay near their post at the Pig Torch). Cynical Cynicist
You have to ask yourself : Is all this effort worth some berry bushes?Yes. Maybe. The bushes never need to be fertilized, are clustered together, plus I might be able to get some free meat and pig skin because the Pig Guards are more 'disciplined' so-to-speak and don't eat food items on the ground. Spazmatic
And then you build bee boxes and never need berries anymore, and wonder why you would even bother with berry bushes( unless you need to feed a smallbird). Cynical Cynicist
I don't know...usually I end up with an excess of materials I could use for making a Pig House or Rabbit Hutch, so it only makes sense to use it for further mob stimulation. For now, I'll just use them as a backdrop for the Walrus snipers. Iris
Are there no berry bush clusters in any of your pig villages? The risk of harvesting the ones around the guardians doesn't seem worth it, unless you hammer those torches to get rid of them for good.I've never found re-fertilizing bushes to be that big of an annoyance. Aves Dominari
I don't know; berries make good crockpot fillers. If they're near your base I would consider it worth the effort. Without any beefalo herds nearby, manure for fertilizing is also quite a hassle (and even with, taking out an element of micromanagement is always a good thing). zazori
When I found the 8 pig torches trap I don't care for the berry bushes,it's more useful as a trap to lead hounds/queens.However,when I found the setpiece with just one torch I kill the pig, wall the torch and I have free light and free berries. Without any beefalo herds nearby, manure for fertilizing is also quite a hassle (and even with, taking out an element of micromanagement is always a good thing). For crock-pot crafting when not doing honey ham (1 monster meat 2 morsels one honey,) berries are the ideal filler. I have yet to make enough plots for farms to have a large assortment of "junk" fruits and vegetables to keep on hand as I'm trying to grow custom crops like Dragon Pies. Had to start over though, and still trying to get the ^&*^*(& bird to give me enough dragon-fruit seeds so I can just have a whole dragon-fruit concentration though...pumpkins (and cookies) until that lucky day and guess I'll keep my basic plots growing random until then.... Cynical Cynicist
I've already used it as protection against a Treeguard within the first 20 days...in addition to bees and hounds. Plus, when they're distracted it's basically the perfect opportunity to harvest a bunch of fresh berries.
