What If Lava Caves Were Actually Added?

Recommended Posts

Hello this question is more directed to a developer of the game. But anyways if I'm not mistaken the developers had plans for the lava caves before it was scrapped, and I believe one of them said "Very dangerous but lots of loot" and Willows full potential would had been immune to the heat. I would like to know what they were aiming for with the lava caves, or why it was scrapped. And know more for what was planned for it, since it isn't going to be added, doesn't hurt to share it right? I can see that if the plans for lava caves are now getting reused for the ruins then I can understand not sharing the info for surprise sake but that isn't confirmed yet. The information so far is very very vague on Lava caves, not even a glimpse of what it would look like.

Edit: Thanks for answering the scrapped part, still want to know about what was their goal with the lava caves essentially and the other questions.

 why it was scrapped.

I know a little on this part, the idea at first was to add lots of levels lava and ruins probably a few others as well but in the end they went with "fleshing out" what was already in existence so there was a lot of interesting stuff in one place rather than lots of generic places with one different feature

The bad thing is that even if they release it as DLC later on, we'll have lots of "They scrapped it from the free updates to sell it later" threads. That's not necessarily true, but might damage the image of the company. You know how the internet is.

Sorry to say, they won't be able to avoid this even for a second.  Regardless how reasonable Klei's decisions have been.

Not enough time to make it a valuable part of the game. But I feel some of it should be used in the caves/ruins just for diversion. Maybe just graphics, if there were some, at least. Anything. Some inside reminder/memory that THIS was once a whole thing.

It's too bad to build something and then just flush it completely. But I know from own experience - if you want to make something truly cool, you never escape flushing the unfunctional stuff you made along the way, sometimes even ALL STUFF YOU MADE. It's a good thing devs are so good with their own/player criticism. Otherwise Don't Starve would be some weird ass tower defense "kill pig people invading your island base" :D game for 3-5 boring days at work I guess :D

Well, I hope one day they finish the lava concept, but yeah: Doing something just to add stuff and not changing the game then was a bad idea and burning the team out. I gotta respect when enough is enough for them.

I hope they can give it the time and care future DLC could bring. But if this is it in regards to the "Lava caves" decision, so be it.
