Then when the keepers gathered, Newleaf had to wear the crown in order to show the keeper, which meant that Newleaf was possessed by it. Then, the keeper was under maxwells control, and he was still possessing Newleaf. So, the keeper of nature is corrupted by maxwell and he is using Newleaf as his host.
