I like ranking things so I ranked Klaus' loot stash drops. Most of them suck.

Blueprints are represented by the items they allow you to craft. This tier list generally assumes that this is your first Klaus kill of a given world.

image.png.6d63b85364bdabd416ebf020534fc706.png

S tier:

Spoiler

Krampus Sack: Usually the best thing you can get from Klaus' however because of beefalo being super accessible, the piggy back is a lot better than it once was, and that makes the krampus sack less impactful of an upgrade, however despite this its still a krampus sack.

Malbatross Bill: Imo the best item you can get for boss rushes, since it lets you explore the ocean much faster and without having to deal with finding a Malbatross spawner.

Bundling Wrap Blueprint: Being able to skip out on fighting bee queen in order to preserve your food is really nice, though considering how many skill trees have given characters good match ups into bee queen, it's not as insane as it was a few years ago. Still really good though.

Deerclops eyeball: As a primarily solo player, I originally put the eye in A tier, however considering how nice extra eyebrellas are in multiplayer I figured it should be in S. Arguably still an A tier item since you can farm deerclops with hostile flares, however you might not have a ton of glommer goop before the first spring, so that might not be an option for all worlds.

A tier:

Spoiler

Mandrake: Lowkey kinda mid, however its the only way to get more mandrakes after looting all the ones from the mandrake forest so it deserves some credit. On short term worlds, consider cooking it into soup if Klaus kicked your teeth in and you need some quick healing.

Bee Queen Crown: While not as useful as the bundling wrap, it's still nice for the ruins and especially the fuelweaver fight. It's mostly this high up because, like the bundling wrap blueprint, getting it from Klaus can let you skip out on fighting Bee Queen. It can also be deconstructed if you're playing as WX/Walter and you want the royal jelly for a beanbooster circuit/royal jelly grip.

Royal Jelly: Jellybeans are really good, however only getting 3 of them is kind of sad. It's saved from B tier because Walter and WX have some really good items they can craft with it.

B tier:

Spoiler

Scales: Thanks to scaled flooring and green staves, you can get infinite scales without ever having to fight dragonfly, so if you struggle with that fight its a method to get scaled flooring and scaled chests, and maybe a scaled furnace if Klaus drops a blueprint for one. Scales in general are a pretty mid item without the furnace blueprint though, so it's not that useful, though I guess you could craft a second furnace if you fought dragonfly but didn't stun it.

Bearger Fur: The insulated pack is good, however it only having 8 inventory slots makes it not really worth crafting for piggy back users, if it had 10 slots then getting Beager Fur from Klaus would be a little better, maybe I'd actually consider using one before I get a Polar Bearger Bin. Speaking of, getting Bearger Fur in multiplayer worlds means you can make more PBBs without having to wait a full year, which I think is enough to get Bearger Fur into B tier. If the hibearnation vest was better, Bearger Fur could easily be an A tier item.

C tier:

Spoiler

Scaled Furnace Blueprint: Useless without a scale, and if Klaus doesn't drop a scale, then its genuinely only helpful for giving to another player so they can craft furnaces, because the only other way to get a scale is to kill dragonfly, who also drops the blueprint. The theoretical scenario where you get a scale + scaled furnace blueprint is the only thing keeping it out of D tier.

Strident Trident Blueprint: Saved from D tier exclusively because Wurt really want the trident to buff her merms, and this is the only way to get one without killing Crab King.

Steel Wool: Ewecus can only drop a maximum of 3 steel wool, but you need 4 to make a war saddle, so if you get 3 from an Ewecus and get one from Klaus, you can craft a war saddle without a green amulet. I guess you could also make a brush with it, which could help tame a beefalo that you started taming late into autumn, that normally wouldn't be fully tame until spring.

D tier:

Spoiler

Down Feather: The fact this hasn't been increased to at least 5 feathers is crazy to me. It's honestly a little insulting, as the only item that you can make with a single down feather is the spin-cycle circuit, except you have to scan a gosling to make it so even that's useless. Technically it could let you make one extra weather pain, however the odds of this actually popping up are kinda low, and its not even remotely enough to make this item anything but D tier.

Tallbird Egg: Similar to the mandrake, this is the only way to get tallbird eggs if every tallbird and its nest in the world is destroyed. Despite this, it's still a terrible item, as raising tallbirds from eggs is not only a super tedious process, but its also really boring. Smallbirds and teenbirds are stupid and will fight alongside you, which essentially just means that they're going to get themselves killed the second you pick a fight with anything more dangerous than 3 spiders. It takes 31 days to raise an egg to a tallbird, almost 2 full seasons. Thats 2 full seasons of not being able to fight bosses, clear the ruins, pretty much anything fun that isn't building. Even if you do all of that, its highkey not worth the effort when you can just as easily re-locate tallbird nests from your mosaic biome. If you're playing a world without any remaining tallbird nests, then its still not worth doing. Tall scotch eggs are good, but there are plenty of other food sources that dont take up 248 minutes of your life to achieve.

Shroom Skin: Similar to scales, however unlike scales, there aren't any recipes that can be made from shroom skin that don't require a special blueprint, so if you don't get a mushlight/glowcap blueprint from Klaus, the item is genuinely useless until you do. On a long term world its still not particularly useful, as you get several skin per Toadstool kill, and you can also just dupe shroom skin with Napsacks.

Mushlight and Glowcap Blueprints: Same reasoning as Shroom Skin, its useless without the skin, and even if you do get some skin, the structures aren't that great until you get enlightened shards (or if you're playing with winter's feast enabled in which case they're not that bad since Klaus also drops 2 festive lights).

Desert Stone and Lazy Desert Blueprint: Both of these items are useless until your first Antlion kill, as 1 Desert Stone isn't enough to make 2 Lazy Deserters, nor is it enough to make 1 LD and allow another player to carry a rock around for a quick teleport back to base. They're lower than the Shroom Skin and mushlights, since those technically can be useful if you get both skin and a blueprint from your first Klaus kill. The stone and the LD are not. After you kill Antlion, they become even less useful, as Antlion drops multiple Desert Stones per kill. If the turf-raiser helm was available from Klaus, the stone would be be at least a little useful, but as of right now, it's not, and as such the Desert stone sucks.

Funcap Blueprints: Funcaps are really bad, so bad in fact that the item knows it sucks and will try to end its own existence faster while being worn. That's not a joke, funcaps will cause all items in your inventory to spoil 50% faster while you wear them, including the funcap itself. The actual perk of the item isn't that great to make up for this drawback either, it just slows your hunger drain by 25%. This used to be kinda niche back when Wolfgang's damage depended on his hunger, so the funcap would ever so slightly increase his dps. Nowadays though the item is a joke of a boss drop, especially coming from Toadstool.

Spider Hat: A relatively niche item thats only really useful for making spiders clear out their own dens. Spider Queens are obnoxiously common though, so getting one from Klaus is genuinely pretty useless. Uniquely, this item is extra terrible for one character: Webber, as he already can befriend spiders, so this item just lets him save a single piece of monster meat before starting a civil war. Terrible item, plus it makes you look like a disgusting stupid spider queen. That alone lands it in D tier.

Lavae Egg: Like a tallbird egg, except if you don't feed it, it'll burn your base down. It's not even a useful pet for winter, as setting a tree on fire while holding a thermal stone will achieve better results, while also freeing you up from having to look after a pet that can die. Imo, babysitting any creature in this game sucks hard. The real use of this item is to freeze it for the mini dragonfly critter, however critters are annoying and I don't like them.

It's bad boss loot, though, because if you don't go around burning nests, your world's got a ton of tallbird eggs you could just go grab.

Tallbird eggs compete with malbatross bills and royal jelly in their respective loot table, meaning any tallbird egg you get could've been a bill. To me, 1 scotch egg can't even begin to compete with the usefulness of the bill.

Tallbird eggs should be removed from loot table and added to merchant loot.

Spider hats to be removed completely. You can always get more from queens. If we want to prevent potential spider extinction, add spider eggs for merchant as well

Larvae egg same. You can always get it from dragonfly

Down feather should drop by 10 so it can have at least some value

everything else is fine as it is

S tier:

Let me tell you about SSS tier: Krampus sack still inside bundle.

Instead of open them right away, use razor to check content, if you cant check it, you got krampus sack inside bundle (back when razor cant do this i used to keep all 4 bundle and open it when people roll back server)

It is op SSS because you literally can carry it and gift it to people as gift, and there are no other way to get krampus sack inside a bundle.

you can literally just walk to a meteor biome and take an egg in like 3 minutes. thats WORTHLESS

Shroom Skin

i disagree heavily with some of your placing, the normally 3 mandrake biome is enough panflutes, ,mandrake should be in B tier.

I get your multiplayer reasoning for the eyebrella, but i think the eyebrella is very overrated (yes, saying that as a WX main) i think the umbrella + football hat is a perfect combo that will get you through spring no problems and recently i decided to use the floral shirt its very cheap, just 5 cactus flower and 3 papyrus and it last the ENTIRE season giving you 240 summer protection, just as much as the eyebrella. The eyebrella is good but its overrated, eye goes in B for single and A for multiplayer since most casuals think its the second coming of jesus christ.

Malbatross bill in S tier is an absolute truth nuke, its just THAT GOOD. I also think royal jelly is better than the bee queen crown, fight me.

Honestly i think the Mushlight + shroom skin are an S tier combo but i had runs killing klaus 3 times and i got 3 KRAMPUS SACKS (2 from klaus 1 from krampus, i have it on video) but not the mushlight or shroom skin. so i guess i understand it being low, they are useless when separated and not useful short term compared to the S and A tiers... but honestly

Scales is a B tier in singleplayer servers but an F tier in multiplayer servers, cuz in singleplayer you aint stunning dragonfly, so an extra scale will give you a scaled chest. but in multiplayer dragonfly goes from raid boss to victim status and you'll get a ton of scales.

OBS: Nice observation that skill trees gave characters better matchups against bee queen, now that WX has a good bee queen match, getting royal jelly from klaus isn't as gamechanging as it once was.

I agree with the rest of the list

I mean, thats a reasonable demand but keep in mind, bad klaus drops are necessary cuz there is no fun in going to a cassino thats naturally in your favor.

Like I said above, this being the only way to renewable get mandrakes bumps it into A tier. Sure it's unlikely you'll ever actually run out of flutes (especially with green staves existing), but since it is the single way to get more mandrakes, I feel like it deserves a little extra credit. For boss rush worlds, it's probably low B tier, cause maybe you'll need an extra flute but in my experience you really don't, even if you spam vs Bee Queen.

Umbrella + football helm works, however it takes up 2 of your body slots, with most of the wetness protection being in your hand slot. This makes it kind of annoying to do anything that requires a weapon or tool during spring. The eyebrella leaves your hand and body slots free, which makes spring a lot more convenient to play. This, combined with the 240 summer insulation it gives makes it a very helpful item to have, and unlike the floral shirt, it doesn't take up your backpack slot. If I did this tier list again, I'd definitely bump it down to an A tier, but I personally wouldn't go any lower than that.

Considering you can just deconstruct a Bee Queen crown into royal jelly, that makes the crown rank higher since it has more uses, even if its use is just to be turned into royal jelly.

It sounds like a good combination, however in my 4.8k hours spent playing DST, I don't think I've gotten it a single time when it'd actually be useful ever, and I almost always kill Klaus every winter. I would love to get the opportunity to try it out in a run, though I feel like it'd just save me some star caller staff uses, and those aren't exactly super valuable. Still, it'd be really cool to get to try out.
