Right now, my character feels outdated, and since they’re not combat-focused, bosses are much harder and gameplay becomes repetitive. I’ve already been waiting for 3 years, and now potentially having to wait 3 more years is depressing…

Before skill trees were introduced, I didn’t mind the updates. But now, I’m constantly expecting my character’s skilltree to fix the issues, and it makes the wait feel much longer. Updates used to feel exciting, but now they feel dim especially when they focus on content I’m not interested in, or even worse, content I’m trying to avoid because I want to experience that part of the game for the first time with the character I actually enjoy, fully updated. Instead, it feels like I’m being left out missing planar damage scaling, new gear interactions, and other mechanics tied to skill trees.

You should be happy your character didn't get a skill tree yet, because each one is better than the last. My poor Wolfgang has been benched for a while now.

Imagine someone actually did go into a medically induced coma because they couldn't wait for an update, and then when they get woken up to see the update they hate it and think the game was better before it. That's like a little improv skit bit or a Newgrounds flash or something. Any improv skit or Newgrounds flash channels are free to use this idea as long as they pay me an enormously large sum of money.

Each time there is a post where somebody points out they are tired of waiting for updates the only scenario I can think of is a person tied to a chair forced to watch a clock on the wall (like Maxwell, lol).

That would be very ironic, yes. The take away message is: enjoy the game as it is and remember to go outside and touch the grass every now and then.

I’ve played other characters, but I usually end up abandoning them or not lasting as long.

Wickerbottom is indeed becoming more boring and weaker. Only players who consistently main her truly understand this. Those who just temporarily switch to her, farm a bunch of resources, and then log off have no reason to call her OP.
