Wigfrid was the only character with dietary restrictions at the beginning of DS Together, and some players avoided her precisely because they didn't have access to the strongest recipe at the time (dragonpie). Time passed, and dragonpie lost relevance with the new farming system. Other characters were added with dietary restrictions, and Wigfrid lost her "disgusting" label.

Wigfrid's rules dictate that she only consume meat/eggs or foods made with those items.
Goodies are a specific exception, and this shouldn't be treated as a rule.

In turn, teas and
or other drinks have always existed in the Don't Starve universe. They were always classified as vegetables. In DST, teas tend to receive the new classification of "generic". Teas were never goodies, and it doesn't make sense for them to be classified that way solely to circumvent Wigfrid's downside.

Wigfrid is a character who is constantly being buffed in DST, albeit indirectly. Enlightened Crown is one example, with Wigfrid's sanity regeneration bonuses (Some Wigfrid players were annoyed by the possibility of upgrading the crown, as the crown was supposed to be a good bonus only for Wigfrid.). The new stun mob system with electrical damage is another example.

But just like Wigfrid, her players are also noisy, and anything that doesn't represent an increase in power should be removed from their character.

So the question remains:

When my favorite character receives downsides and I don't like it, should the developers bow to my wishes and remove it from the game?

I think you misunderstood their meaning.

When they say "tea" they don't mean all drinks. The "tea" they refer to is Pearl's tea.

Their hope that Wigfrid could drink tea doesn't necessarily mean they hope to gain great power, but rather for more interaction between Wigfrid and Pearl.

Even the WX-78 can soak in hot springs (though it might fall out due to electric leakage), so why not give Wigfrid a new and special visual effect to enhance the sense of interaction? At least it can serve as a consolation for not being able to drink tea.

Thats identity politics toxic stuff is really poisoning the mind. Its only just a simple thing.

Goodies was created to solely to circumvent Wigfrid's downside, that's exactly its purpose.

Its added to allow Wig eat Jellybeans and Events foods, to avoid damage the motivation of players to participate in the these gameplay. It is now obvious that there is no gameplay in the game that matches Hermit Crab and allows Wig to participate. The same thing is happening, so it is natural for people to ask developers to change it and proposed the simplest solution with precedents.

You made your point clear in the previous Wigfrid post of what your opinion is surrounding the idea of Wigfrid being able to drink tea.
Instead of moving on or staying in the same post you create a passive-aggressive post of the same question that we were already discussing before. What is the point of this when its so obvious of what your current stance on it is.

I largely agree with your point. Since this has been a rule since the single-player version, Wigfrid really shouldn't become "able to drink tea."

Klei has continuously tried to balance character selection rates through various means. However, some players still love playing certain characters regardless. Their affection for specific characters is remarkable, and they have developed many interesting character-specific playstyles. You can't simply tell them to "switch characters if you feel you're missing out on new content."

For example, some people like the extra 12 inventory slots from the Magician's Top Hat but don't want to play Maxwell, so the developers added the "budget version" – the Burrowing Horn.

I hope Klei will find other ways in the future to compensate for the effects Wigfrid loses, mainly temperature control. After all, Wigfrid couldn't enjoy Warly's temperature-regulating dishes before either.

The tea is literally made from things she refuses to eat. Whats the logic here?

Lets allow her to eat dragon pie because why not.

Because she has downsides. Downsides shouldnt be compensated for the sake of it.

Even so, dealing with environmental damage through food is an interesting game mechanic. Just like the Hamlet (HAM) DLC compensated Wigfrid in a later patch by adding the dish Meated Nettles.

For example, I think this Hot Spring update indirectly compensates for Wickerbottom's inability to sleep.

it doesn’t, it only works at pearls island and the lunar.

The key question is, does Wigfrid need Pearls' teas and why. This is not strength or lore issue fundamentally. It is a gameplay issue.

What really makes me upset is developers' inconsistency. We have various quotes at the beginning and soon they are replaced by one single negative quote. So why? If devs decided that Wigfrid can't drink teas, why do they wrote those quotes at first. I don't have much feeling for Wigfrid, I am just confused by the original quotes and the fact that Warly can‘t drink teas was a bug. If quotes must be in line with the actual game, then why Wigfrid can eat Frozen Banana Daiquiri and Mushy Cake, which she have negative quotes on. Would these food be unavailable for Wigfrid someday? Then why it is available at the first place?

OK, I am even more confused. I have to persuade myself that devs don't have a standard either, otherwise my head would explode.

Bananas are also a food that is rejected, but frozen banana lip honey can be consumed; this is not a reason for refutation.

the old quote that say she thought it as elixir instead for beverage really nice tho, idk why a late game stuff still need to locked to certain character at all.
not even main wigfrid but this is bothering me..

Haha, I think you might have missed a detail about this update. Pearl's Hot Spring is unlocked after you relocate her. You can choose where to move her, which indirectly determines the location of the Hot Spring.

Yes, it needs to have restrictions and shouldn't be unlocked from the very beginning; otherwise, character downsides would become meaningless. The "compensation" I'm referring to is exactly this form.

Pearl's teas are also a mid-to-late-game content (for now).

I don't agree with your idea.

Firstly, if so, why devs changed so many characters? Willor never burns bases, Wolfgang never drain hunger faster, Woodie may also escape full moon curses(via skill tree). Many of the characters have been changed, even Warly can enjoy teas, which are not crock pot dishes. So why can't Wigfrid?

Second, character disadvantages cause trouble to players? Yes. But lock players completely from experiencing new game contents? NEVER! The inability to drink tea, makes it mostly pointless for Wigfrid player to interact with Hermit, if not totally pointless. The main reward is the teas, but none of them can be consumed by Wigfrid, so why bother Wigfrid players doing all the decorations? In my opinion, teas can be left unchanged as it is now, but DESSERTS should also be introduced alongwith teas.It is common to have desserts along with tea, and I see desserts classified as goodies with no problem. So Wigfrid players can still enjoy part of the new contents.

Wigfrid already can enjoy most of the new content. Wigfrid can use everything else that was added.

The combriner items, the large drying rack, the hot tub.

Just not the tea. She couldn't drink soothing tea, either.

People asking for Wigfrid to be able to drink tea has the same energy as people asking Wickerbottom to sleep in order to get presents.

Personally I'd say if it goes through leafy meat crockpot dishes should also be on the table for Wurt.

What legitimate downsides are there? Oh yeah, none.
