For over a month now, the PS5 version of Don’t Starve Together has been practically unplayable for me because the game does not save progress correctly. In the last update the issue was marked as “fixed,” but nothing has actually changed.
I honestly find it strange that a studio would leave such a critical issue unresolved without any visible response.
I want to know when this problem will actually be fixed. Will I be able to play normally again before Christmas, or do I have to expect to wait until next year?

I have a question regarding the PS4 & PS5 versions of DST. I do not own a PlayStation console (& haven’t since PS3) But over on Xbox even though there is not an “Official” Series X/S version of DST: The Xbox One Version will load a full minute and 20 seconds faster on the X/S then it will on the Xbox One.

My Question to Ps4/Ps5 players: Does the PS5 version load this much faster than the PS4’s?

Because if it does: Your saving & loading issue is probably the same problem I Had trying to play DST on my Series S with my Friend who was still on the Xbox One.

He was the HOST of the game world, but every time he would try to roll the world back, I would load into the game world and actually be running around and doing stuff a full minute & 20 seconds before he would even load back in. This caused MAJOR headaches for us because by the time he was able to load back into his own Hosted Server, the game had already saved & created a new Restore point.

I was able to fix this by letting the person with the fastest console be the host. (Which unfortunately for us.. yes meant starting over in a brand new world & abandoning his)

Now that the game has officially launched on PS5, it’s possible your experiencing these same loading/saving Woes the Xbox One/Series X/S went through. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s not about that. The issue is that you play for 40 days, you leave the game, and the in-game menu clearly shows that it saved. You close the game, start it again, and boom — all the progress you made is gone. Yes, all 40 in-game days I used as an example are simply deleted.

I think a lot of the players experiencing the issue play solo/alone. Nonetheless, I’ve had the progress not saved properly both while playing alone and with friends. And all of my friends I played with were on the ps5 version too.

This has been happening to me too so frustrating! On my current save I've wasted around 70 days having to reply days because of this! Im playing with my server size at 1 (alone) I'm gonna try playing with 6 player slots but friends only maybe that will fix it fingers crossed because I love this game but waisting hours of time is not fun

Currently 100+ days after changing my server settings to friends only, with full player spots & I haven't came across the bug

After play on ps5 version in my one server for a week, the game crashed and I’m stuck on the loading screen, updating inventory forever.  Then I switched to the ps4 version, I dont see the data synced, lost all the progress.
I tried to uninstall the ps5 version and reinstall, not working :(

New update and no update on this MASSIVE issue. Literally no point in playing until the saving problem is actually resolved. It's terrible seeing the influx of people excitedly coming back to play the new stuff and learning about the bug first hand.

In the economy of time and different games competing for our attention, I'll spend my time where it's valued and not haphazardly wasted. Arc Raiders has been a blast and I foolishly started New Game Plus on Expedition 33 months ago so I've got quite a grind to get back to Act 3 for the new DLC. I'm begging you Klei, give me a reason to play again. I want to so bad, but I just can't see the current value in it.

It has now been well over a month that the PS5 version of Don’t Starve Together is broken due to a critical save issue that makes normal play impossible.
This bug was explicitly marked as “fixed” in an update, yet nothing was actually fixed. The issue still happens exactly the same way. Labeling this as resolved while it clearly is not is misleading at best.
What is even more concerning is the complete lack of response. No clarification, no status update, no acknowledgement. For a game-breaking bug in a paid product, this level of silence is unacceptable.
Today is December 20th.
I originally posted this in mid-November. That is more than enough time to at least communicate what is going on.
So let’s be very clear:
Is this issue actively being worked on, or not?
When will the PS5 version actually be playable again?

At this point, it’s only a matter of time before we can say that we’ve been waiting two full months for a fix.

is there no way for you guys experiencing the issues to go back to ps4 version? I hesitated getting ps5 version after reading about this and my game saves fine, is there no going back once you get it?

Also while we're at the topic of unaddressed issues that are around for a while, some news on the public servers situation would be nice. Or at least increase save slots. The eternal issues I know.

I don't think I can transfer the save file back to the PS4. I looked at that awhile ago, but I remember running into some problem. I'll check it out again and report back.

I've already done a bunch of work since making the move to PS5 though (before the save issue) so it would still result in more lost progress either way even if it worked.

I've been looking at this over the last couple of weeks. Because of the random way is seems to happen it's been tough to nail down a method to reliably reproduce it.
From what I've found, it seems to be triggered when you go into or out of the caves (change servers) right around a time the game is trying to save, like at change of day.

Now that I'm able to trigger the bug semi-reliably I'm trying to figure out how to fix it, though it's still going to take some more work before it's there. I apologize that it's taken so long, and I hope you can be patient a bit longer.

I was not even near a cave and lost 22 days... and I even saved in between.

I started at day 1327, saved at 1342 to change a setting, turned off at 1349 and the next day I was back to 1327. I went to monkey island, planted some bananas and palm trees and changed the turf... so in my case it had definitely nothing to do with the caves.

I have absolutely no problem to just play the ps4 version until this is fixed, but imo you guys should at least let people know... there was a new update and the issue wasn't even mentioned. A lot of people might waste part of their holidays for nothing.

What a wonderful, wonderful transparent message. A pull back of the curtain to know the why's and how's is so massively helpful and amazing to hear, makes me jealous other games don't have the same lol

Extremely extremely appreciated as always

Its probably not helpful.

but as a long timedst player I remember there was similar bug with the ps4 version way back.

the game would save everyday, but when you disconnected your game back to the main menu and you would turn off your console while the auto-save-icon on the bottom right of the screen was still on, you would lose all progress from when you last started your world (i think turning the game of while saving corrupted the save file and your last savegame was brought back as the backup)

The new savebug happened to me only once. And it happened in a similar way.
Since the old savebug happened to me  a few times because i turned off the console too fast, I always wait for the auto-save-icon to disappear before i turn off my ps5.

And I vividly remember that my auto-save-icon didn’t appear at all as i disconnected from my world and was instantly paranoid. I left my ps5 running and it eventually it turned off automatically to save energy.

And when i restarted the game my savefile was at the same day i started the game last time.

Also depending on the suspicion if the caves are involved i can certainly say that was probably not the case in my game, because I saved right before exploring the ocean. And i played like 10 days only exploring the ocean and was only on the monkey island where i quit the game. I can confidently state that i was not in a cave in the session where my game wouldnt save. But I had used the whirlpool teleportation from the sharkboss.

BUT ALSO depending on caves.

when my ps5 auto turns off due to my inactivity it doesnt close the game. On the ps4 and the ps4-version on ps5 it usually caused my game to be stuck in the menu where i had to disconnect the world and log out and reconnect again in the main menu before i could resume playing.

But since the ps5 version i can just continue playing without a problem. EXCEPT if i try to go into the caves, then I get an errormessage where my game cant connect to the server and i have to quit the game from the ps5 menu. Then my game is also not saved (but only the day it happens on). It seems to doesnt matter how long i play after an autoturnoff, as long as i dont manually disconnect and reconnect from the main menu, i can reliably cause the cavecrash.

Interesting, i just mentioned in my post that it also happened to me while i was on monkey island.
so maybe it has something to do with the ocean-content. Or Monkey island itself?

Did you use a bootleg getaway by any chance?

Just a note on saving, am I right in thinking that the ps5 version actually saves multiple times during an in-game day? I see the autosave icon pop up for me quite often while cooking at the crockpots, and it’s usually not during a new day.

I’ve learnt to never ever disconnect or close my game without the autosave icon gone from the bottom right of my screen plus I actually manually back up my save to the cloud after every session. I also only rollback from the main menu if I really have to as I believe my problems were caused by the in-game rollback feature.

Losing progress happened to me a lot the first month of the ps5 version’s release, 40+ days was the worst for me. However, it hasn’t happened to me since late November and I play almost everyday on a long term (5k+ days) world. Hopefully it stays that way for me and those still having this issue are able to play again soon without fear of losing all the work they put into their worlds!

Yes, me too. I was farming crowns to make huge chests and hearts with Wanda. I spent about 5 or 6 days killing the Celestial Champion and gathering Shadow Pieces. Then I switched to Winona and was making chests. After that, I closed the game. The next day I came back before killing the first Celestial Champion. I lost all my progress ;-; I also didn't go into the caves during that time.

Nope, plain old paddling. And I saved afterwards, after that it was just decorating/changing turf... so I was in the same area the whole time.

So I lost two save points (1342+1349), even tho it loaded to 1342 before... that's what confuses me the most.

While caves may be the problem, I feel like there is something else possibly too since I managed to lose a world that I just started and regained 4 worlds I had previously deleted for world space. Completely lost the new world (only like day 14 or something) when these worlds came back. I always wait for the save icon to disappear before closing and it is both unfortunate and annoying to go from DS:SW crashing every 4 mins after playing fine for awhile to DST (ps5 edition) and find my newly started world just not existing and the old ones back.

I think it doesn't have to do with the server settings because I'm playing on a 6-slot friends only server and this but still happened to me and I lost a lot of progress.

Another thing that helped me is turning auto login off. My game will sometimes disconnect from the servers when going into the caves but after I messed with those setting I don't get lost progress I will just spawn in at the sinkhole entrance

Anytime my game disconnects from the server like that I close the game & boot it back up idk if that's necessary but I kinda do it outta paranoia
