That'd be even worse. You spend resources to build a merm house to recruit followers, then suddenly they turn hostile and attack you because you dared to play as Wurt.

Meanwhile, any Webber gets access to more shattered spiders for free.

wurt is 20x the character webber is, please don't play victim here.

Good point, he shouldn’t get free shattered spiders either, it’s okay for the game to have hostile variants of a mob you can otherwise tame or work your way towards taming.

Getting them for “free” defeats the entire purpose of building the huts or switcher cookies to work your way up to them.

Also, Tamed versions shouldn’t be able to turn hostile due to idk protective armor or funny magic food.

Kinda like how antivirus in zombie movies only cure recently infected, but will not straight up cure those who have turned already? Yeah that…

lol. I'm a Webber main who's barely played Wurt, and even I see how Wurt is specifically getting screwed here. Webber invests less in his minions (because they're weaker), and still has a skill tree in his future. You'd think Wurt could remain good after how slow she is to reach her peak, but alas.

And, to put a fine point on it, shadow alignment Wurt... chose poorly. Lunar Wurt is just fine.

Webber has to tame them to unlock the switcherdoodles to begin with. The cost is largely irrelevant by the time rifts are active (literally raining glass). The major difference is they aren't exclusively tied to a skill tree alignment.

If Webber gets a pure horror upgrade that doesn't work on shattered spiders, then he'd be in the same boat.

Well the buzzards certainly make hound attacks actually a threat again. Just had my 8 catapults and tingle fence annihilated when the buzzards came down to transform the hound corpses. I mean wow, biggest surface threat we've had in a long, long time. And they are still quite difficult to kill even after the hotfixes. I mean think about it, even if you use beefalo herds to deal with late game hound waves, the buzzards will decimate those too. Might have to go back to the good ol' tooth trap field.

Jesus F. Christ, I didn't think Klei would hit a new low after all they've done to my once favorite game but they somehow managed it. Not even a beta this time, straight up pushed this mess to prod. I wonder if they just sit and brainstorm on different ways of how to ruin people's enjoyment in this game

I honestly don't appreciate the way u direct your type of  energy to feedback, it's always so negative and salty for no reason. They will fix this as soon they can.

so that sounds like a bad game design, is the whole perk to mutate merms yourself into shadow or moon not like...supposed to be a special perk? if merms can just mutate on there own and then cant even be used by not moon alligned wurt players, then that is an oversigth, and i realy think merms sould not be able to transform into either side without feeding them the special item

Did not test it again due to previous server crashes, but yeah, it's free mutated Merms for Lunar Wurt if so.

I did find out you can actually "convert" the Mutated Merm by killing it, but this crashed my server the first time I tried. Klei did fix this already after I reported this, but the other time I tried it again, the whole army starts murdering eachother. Would be better if they will only kill the Mutated Merms when you are playing Shadow aligned Wurt, and won't target the other Merm Guards.

I'll change my tone when everything else they ruined in the game will be fixed. For now they don't deserve my blind praise for simply fixing what shouldn't have been pushed to prod untested. I can give them one measly point of credit for adding an actual option to disable mutated buzzards in the settings. Bravo Klei, outstanding work! Now please add:

  • An option in the settings to disable Wagstaff showing up on Pearl's island and ruining it (and make the Scion fight happen in a more appropriate place);
  • An option in the settings to remove plant-based creatures being ignited by electric damage;
  • An option in the settings to make moongleams only target players and not damage innocent creatures, walls and spawners;
  • An option in the settings to disable Masqued creatures.

And I will be somewhat content with the current state of the game (until the next update when they ruin something else, of course).

@Echsrick I've tested it right now, you can get rid of the Mutated Merms by killing them. It will start a civil war though, where recruited (fed) merms will kill off the others for you. After that normal Merm Guards will spawn from the houses.

As far as I now know it seems that, when Lunar Rift is up and Merm Guards that aren't recruited get killed, they will become Lunar Mutated Merms. I can't say for sure if recruiting them will make them unaligned though. This did seem the intended case because the animation after feeding as Lunar affinity Wurt showed the Mutated Merm turning 'normal' visually:

 This was bugged, so I reported it, and it was fixed in the last patch. I haven't been able to test this again, though.

I do think Mutated Merms "spawn camp" houses if they aren't recruited. This means you need to kill them off and wait for new ones to spawn again, but I guess we can live with that and makes sense in a way if you think about the consequences of activating Lunar rift itself.

That's just being dishonest and nobodies gonna listen to any points you make if you prove you're so willing to argue in bad-faith like that. You even admit you just Assumed it couldn't be turned off and commented before getting all the information. Why would the developers trust the word of someone who can't even be bothered to play the new update BEFORE telling them everything they should change about it? Why would anyone think to listen to you when you admit you can't wait until you have all the facts before you start calling the devs stupid? Credibility particularly on the internet has to be earned. Yelling the loudest or being the most rude and aggressive doesn't force people to listen to you. Try being polite and waiting until you have all the information before speaking and suddenly people will be more willing to listen. You'd never listen to a random stranger if they suddenly came into your workplace and told you you're personally attacking them with your poor performance and implied you're stupid right?

I'm sorry but the times when I was calm and polite have passed. What did that achieve? Nothing. During the Hostile Takeover I was giving a lot of constructive feedback in the most calm and polite manner I could think of and yet none of it was even acknowledged or answered by the developers. I was practically begging Klei to reconsider what they were doing, and not a single dev went out of their way to spend 5 minutes and address any of my concerns. How do you expect me to be nice NOW when it's too late, how can you expect me to forgive them when they just ignored me when I was nice and polite? Yes, now I'm talking out of frustration and anger and maybe they should start listening to their customers if they want to be treated nicely and still receive money from us. Since Hostile Takeover I stopped spending money on this game and not going to do this until they change what they ruined. And I encourage everyone who is unhappy with what Kei is doing to stop spending money on skins, board game and their merch. I know they are reading these forums and they will see this eventually. I'm not just being negative about these additions to the game - I'm just voicing my opinion in the most honest way possible. Without "pretend" niceness and blind praise, like most of the comments here. If I don't like something, I will continue telling people I don't like it in the hopes it might change. Because if I tell I like it, then it most certainly won't change.

Oh yeah and also not everyone has time to play the freshly released update when the developers didn't even bother announcing it. People have real lives, you know. It was enough to me to read the comments and watch other people play it to immediately see their experience and how much trouble the new update is. The fact that it can be turned off in the settings doesn't change that the update is low quality, untested and rushed - as the rest of the updates we received this year. A well designed feature of the game doesn't need an "off" setting, and certainly shouldn't be the only reasonable way to deal with the threat.

I remember the times when betas took a month or more, and every prod update was announced at least a weak ahead of it dropping, with all the upcoming changes listed in patch notes. What happened to this policy? Klei said that they are changing from a 1-per-month tight update schedule to 4 large and higher quality updates per year, yet what we get is the absolute lowest quality unbalanced additions to the game. They cause a lot of disappointment among players, but most importantly, they are still rushed, they take 2 weeks in beta at best, and they are released anyway with most of the feedback being ignored. You can't deny there's a trend of the game update quality dropping constantly, and there's no need to try and sugarcoat it with polite comments.

If Klei are not able to deliver a quality update, they should take more time on it until they address all the bugs/broken balance/design issues around each update instead of ignoring 13 page threads where people keep telling stories about how another new change ruined their enjoyment of the game.

You have a negative parasocial relationship with the devs. In your mind you are owed a reply but the developers are not owed respect or kindness even while you are the one making demands of them. This isn't some grand betrayal, there's no need to take it so personally. I agree with some critiques of recent updates, the difference is I don't take it personally when they don't have the time to reply to or fix every problem I have with the game. I simply understand they are busy, busy working or having lives of their own, they have multiple games to work on, multiple ports of DST to work on, etc. I'd take a moment to imagine what it's like to be on the receiving end of such treatment if you were just another programmer under Klei reading the things you say about them and their team. Would you ever say these things to their faces? If you were suddenly face to face with someone who works at Klei would you really tell them you hate them and feel betrayed when they don't even know who you are? Imagine how confused you'd be if a stranger suddenly asserted to you they're being ignored on purpose by you and that's why they're allowed to tell you you're stupid.

Being polite isn't sugar coating, it's just being polite cause the person reading that feedback is a human, a programmer, an artist, a moderator, etc, who has to sift through the feedback forums, youtube videos, twitter posts, etc. Being kind means making their job easier and let's be honest if any of us saw a user that said "the times when I was calm and polite have passed." We'd probably not want the emotional drain of reading their feedback when in between said feedback is comments about how stupid you are. You'd just move on to someone who took the time to be kind and aware that there's a person on the other side of that screen who has to read everything they typed. Being firm and being mean are two different things. Be assertive but be respectful. It's probably not even the same employee whose reading your different posts in the feedback forums, so it's really confusing when you assert they've betrayed you and that's why they deserve your abuse. They don't even know who you are??? You're one player out of hundreds. I'm sure that's frustrating but you can't use your emotions to justify acting like that, it's just not how the real world works.

The fact of the matter is that Klei IS delivering quality updates, and the actual problem is a community where every single possible change they can do prompts 13 page threads about how the developers are idiots for forcing me to play the game slightly differently. The hill being died on this update is spider farms, literally spider farms. I truly don't know how Klei could possibly deliver "quality updates" to a game with a community who is unwilling to accept anything as quality unless it is unintrusive and no one ever has to think about it, where even adding an extra step to operating a spider farm is enough to cause this much complaining.

This has to be one of the most embarrassing things I have ever read on these forums. Don't you realise how childish this post sound?

I don't care how it sounds or looks as long it conveys my frustration with the recent updates, and seeing how triggered you are by it, it's doing what it was intended to do. This is a place for giving feedback, and I am giving feedback. I don't break any forum rules. If you don't like how I voice it, then don't read it and go read 1000 other comments that praise Klei for every time they didn't ruin something. This is a place to speak, not to shut others down or belittle their opinions.

And no, it does not matter how you talk. You won't and can't change a thing when you are trying to get orange's from a Lemonade stand.

Except that's not what I'm asking for. I'm just asking that the lemonade that I used to buy from the same stand doesn't suddenly change its recipe, say, to contain root beer in it in place of lemons. So I can continue enjoying the flavor that I and many other people liked. Instead I'm asking for root beer to be sold separately and leave my lemonade intact and be the same good old flavor I'm used to drink on a regular basis, enjoy, and most importantly, spend my real life money on. And if I'm unhappy with the product I will continue saying how I don't like that the flavor changed and ask to change it back to what it was. It's that simple.

The last two years of rift updates were one the most impactfull, most well crafted, and most player feedback influenced updates we have ever gotten in this game.

The quality of in game bosses, mechanics, items and skill trees basically went to the levels we have never seen before. But none of this matters because ya'll gotten so spoiled with the updates that now you all get mad when a new mechanic changes how to build your megabases and demand that it should be changed just because you want it to change. We literally had people cry about a bug fix because it changed their builds and demanded klei to revert the changes.

There were good things and there were bad things, but in general the trend was the drop of the quality in the updates and I wasn't the only one who noticed it. There were plenty of other forum members expressing their disappointment with the quality and pace of the recent updates we received this year. If you want an example, go back to the Hostile's Takeover release post and read the comments on the first couple of pages - people were really disappointed and confused to see a beta turn into prod before all of the concerns were addressed, and that it went live with a measly two day ahead announcement (instead of the usual week), and so raw in quality. Here are a few other related rants/discussions (that's just the ones I managed to find quickly):

Quote

My question to all of you people is: What are you trying to achive? Why do you keep coming to the forums and complain how much this game is "ruined". When you can just, Leave? Just take a break, man. You are achieving nothing by doing this.

I am trying for my voice to be heard so the things that were ruined get fixed (or at least get toggleable like they did with the lunar buzzards). And no, I don't want to leave and I won't - this used to be my favorite game and I'm passionate about it, I just heavily dislike the recent few updates and overall developer's ignorance to feedback. They seem to dismiss any comments that are "inconvenient" or "criticizing" of them and in some cases choose to never address certain feedback, no matter how constructively it's put together. They are not even fixing the bugs I'm reporting anymore. I have every right, as a customer of this game, to voice my disappointment with the product and its development direction.

"Feedback" is a stretch when it boils down to a few individuals showcasing their obsession with Lureplants catching on fire. I am sure Klei welcomes constructive criticism, but looking back at the vocal minority in the wake of the last few updates it has only been tantrums and demands about some extremely trivial aspects of the game that nobody else is bothered by. If a bug gets fixed, it was probably for a good reason, no..? Instead they take bug fixes as a personal attacks and claim that the game is unplayable (lol).

Right now the game is in a very nice state, though I am starting to miss the times when there weren't as many mechanics and items to keep track of. There are so many armors and weapons to choose from now and the Gloomerang makes most fights rather risk free. xd

So the more I play the more I'm souring on the way the buzzards have been implemented. I thought this would be a new threat I had to deal with like brightshades. For the most part though, they can be ignored. In fact it's optimal to ignore them as they drop nothing of note. And they don't seem to aggro easily like I thought. Except for a hound raid when the buzzards are flying it's essentially become just an annoying shadow effect I have to ignore a lot of the time on the surface.

I would much prefer needing to get them to land and wipe them out and then being done until the next hail or whatever spawns them. Even if you don't have them directly attack the player, at least let killing them all be the end of it for the current rift cycle. They just endlessly respawn no matter what you do so it's even more incentive to ignore them. And killing spiders post rift is something I can usually delay until the buzzards are gone.

Again the concept is great, making fighting regular mobs more dangerous, and the buzzards are exciting when they're doing stuff, it's just a little boring at the moment. Maybe we just need more mob mutations for the surface, that might be the solution.Though I would prefer a way to clear them out, the shadows irritate me.

Considering the switch is always several updates behind, I would safely assume that you are not going to get the Halloween update in time for Halloween (which is today! 🎃) But… usually what ends up happening is the switch will get the update much later: Yes halloween in real life will be over by then, but the most likely outcome is that you’ll get the Halloween event in December, and the Christmas event in like January.

It’s late: Because in addition to the new event stuff: they have to also catch up the other non-event updates you’ve yet to have.

Hopefully someday: All versions of the game can be updated at roughly the same pace.

If politeness were really helpful, if the updates were really high-quality, Klei won't have a bad reputation in recent years.

Play DST yourself and check how unreasonable and destructive Buzzards are, or be quite, stop teaching someone else what they should do as if they have never tried. PLEASE?

Stop telling me what should I do, what should I be. I tried everything I can in the past 2 year. I write these posts now because I love Lunar Mutation mechanic and what I can't stand most is Buzzards, Buzzards that can easily kill most of the bosses of thousand HP, Buzzards that can easily kill an entire herd of Beefalos, Buzzards that are so much powerful than Possessed Varg, A PLANER BOSS! A PLANER BOSS! Tell me what kind of high quality this is? I guess someone here in this forum would be extremely delighted and grateful if there is a Gestalt Spider that can easily kill WARBOT on its own.
