For those who have found the giant whirlpool that leads to the sanctum, where did you find it? Can it appear in any type of ocean from coastal to hazardous?

I have a retrofitted world and have sailed for over 30 in game days trying to find the whirlpool to no avail. I know at least part of this recent update has been added to my world as I've already found the sanctum, but with a fully completed map this chore seems excessively tedious. Honestly, if we're to be given these fetch and find quests each update it would really helpful if there was a way to restore the fog of war on the map.

Any help with clues or info on where people have found this whirlpool in retrofitted worlds would be greatly appreciated. My only option forward might be trying to enlist a friend who has never entered the world, and therefore has a blank map, to help me comb over the ocean for a 3rd time...

your problem is “retrofitted” there IS NO WHIRLPOOL on a Retrofitted world. You instead need to search somewhere in the caves for a Wormhole.

You're mistaking the fumarole biome, which does have a wormhole. The whirlpool leads to an entirely different biome and is accessed via a whirlpool on the surface, which is retrofitted.

Not sure if this applies to all of them, but I found my retrtofitted whirlpool in the deep blue/rough patches of water. I feel that might be a good start?

My megaworld retrofit a whirlpool

It did so in fog, but I haven't really explored much ocean as I don't like sailing.

If you had the ocean explored it will be tricky to find because the whirlpool will likely be over a patch of explored water and you can't tell if you checked there or not unless you are meticulous.

my world also retrofitted the whirlpool, very old world btw. So it definitely works. But with ocean fully explored it is definitely annoying to find, I think it should show on the map if you already explored that area, like the shark island does.

It was in a empty corner basically, north east corner of the ocean, with lunar being south east and monkeys north west. Probably irrelevant information but the nearest biome was the beef savana

I might be really bad at navigating and memorizing where I've explored, but I have spent 3 seasons in game driving my fancy boat and flying around as a goose without any success.

Is it possible to locate it using console commands? From the script, I think the prefab name of it should be either "oceanwhirlbigportal". Originally, I thought I could just use `c_find()` to find it and then `c_goto()` to teleport to it. However, the former command always returns `nil` for me. I'm really new to these commands, but my assumption is that the whirlpool is not loaded given my player location.

I've had the same issue, i've tried c_announce(c_find()) and c_gonext(), but no avail. In the end I had to spawn the whirlpool because I guess my world didn't retrofitted it. It's works fine if you spawn, the whole animation and even leads you where you need to go (sanctum)

May I recommend going as Woodie Goose instead of sailing? You won't get fog of war back but at least explore faster. You can try to split the world in segments and search each one, then write down where you checked already. If it helps, our whirlpool also retrofitted near beefalo savanna.

If you are really desperate to find it and don't mind console comma, you can just do c_gonext("oceanwhirlbigportal").

Thanks Kehvran for the great tip! After running the command, we confirmed that our retrofitted world indeed had a portal. My wife then sailed out and found it in 10 in-game days ... so I suppose I was just very unlucky 😕

You're welcome ❤️ that command is very useful so you don't spoil the fun of finding it yourself, but you know you have it in your world. Hope you two had fun searching for it lmao
