Pass the World!

This is inspired by the pass the world event on Terraria forums. Rules are very similar.

Discord server: https://discord.gg/9kV2vpKQQ2

How does this work?

  • I will make a new world as wilson without server mods, play around for a bit and set up a starter base.
  • According to the schedule, I will send the world file via direct message to the next person.
  • You'll have a week to play on the world. Within that week, you'll kill your assigned bosses.
  • During your week, please post screenshots here and share details of your time with the world.
  • After your week, you'll send me the world file via direct message. (I'll double check that everything is okay with the world).
  • I'll then send the world file off to the next person, and they'll have it for a week. Rinse and repeat until we defeat all bosses.
  • DST has timed bosses, if one spawns naturally and it isn't one of your assigned bosses and hasn't been defeated before, simply despawn it. However I suggest you to simply defeat your bosses and pass the world before these bosses spawn.

How do I sign up?

  • You can sign up until 9 August. Simply ask me here and I'll add you, assuming nobody has taken the week you ask for. Sign ups are closed, if you want in, you'll have to join as a backup player.
  • Make sure that you will be able to commit and play in your assigned week. If you're uncertain about having time to play, I suggest you to choose another week or have a friend to play that week in case you aren't available.
  • When you sign up, indicate whether you would like to also be a standby player. Standby players would be contacted if a member ends up not being able to fulfill their week, as an emergency backup. No obligation. You can decide yes/no at the time of need. You can still have your original week as well.
  • If need be, additional time will be given for sign-ups later if there are weeks that are still open. And if need be, a member can take on a second week if there are still weeks open later.

What do I need to do to play?

  • You need to play on a computer and you know where world files go to.
  • You're available some time within your week and have time to defeat your assigned bosses.
  • You're able to defeat your given bosses, without overpowered gear.

Rules:

  • No. Rollbacks. World settings will be made with this in mind. If a world really needs a rollback, hand over the files to me. I'll check the situation and decide if it's really worth a rollback or not. A type of rollback you're always allowed to do is downloading the world files again and starting over from your assigned week.
  • You won't cheat items in, or use console commands.
  • You won't use any server mods besides the ones dictated.
  • You'll have fun.
  • You won't grief the base (obviously) or mindlessly destroy creations of other players without improving upon it.
  • The game will begin with Wilson but changing characters is of course allowed.
  • When your time is up, send the world files to me directly. Not the next person. I'll check and confirm that the world is okay to proceed to the next person and will provide to them myself.

In the game,

  • This is anything but a boss rush. Take your time and focus on building, farming, taming, exploring and all other enjoyable aspects of this game.
  • You do not need to take your time and focus on building, farming, taming, exploring and all other enjoyable aspects of this game. If you realy want to, you can speedrun your bosses and pass the world immediately.
  • Be transparent. Feel free to share what you're doing in the world.
  • Players that are assigned "one seasonal boss" can skip their next boss. For example, if you have this and it's winter, you can despawn deerclops and kill moose goose or even antlion instead to give yourself more in game time. However if someone else has killed moose goose before, you can't skip your boss by killing it. You need to kill a seasonal boss that hasn't been defeated before.
  • This game is chaotic by nature. You will likely die and perhaps burn the entire base down. We cannot expect you to play flawlessly but before you pass the world after screwing everything over, save or collect enough stuff to be able to proceed with less pain. I won't pass a world if the player is just a ghost when I load it up.
  • Seasonal bosses are, Bearger, Armored Bearger, Deerclops, Crystal Deerclops, Klaus, Moose/Goose and Antion specifically.
  • If a boss has not been mentioned here, you are free to kill it whenever you wish. It will not count towards the bosses given to you however.

(09/11 - 15/11) Week 14, W.A.R.B.O.T: @DVGMedia

Again, to apply, just ask to play in here. If multiple people want to play in the same week, give your second choices and I'll pick one with a coinflip. If weeks run out and we no longer have room for you or you're far too late but you still want to play, apply to standby playing. After I send the world files to a player, if I don't recieve an acknowledgement within the next 48 hours, I will contact their friends first and if no luck, you.

Tell me if this needs any improvements. Before anything begins, I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Oh my god are you serious?

It's fine, we can still manage. We'll just have to get players to drop everything on them to a reserved spot and so other players can proceed with their game with the character of their own choosing. This might just be an even better thing. Before I add this here though, can someone confirm?

Edit: this issue has been solved.

Yeah I might try it.

I suggest see if someone could make a mod so it works properly and maybe add a day count limit so nobody just sets up a cheese ready for every single boss so the thing is not already solved.

E.g a player only has 20 days, but it can be extended if the seasonal boss has not spawned yet.

I’d do week 7

I highly doubt anyone would bother setting up a cheese for every boss. Even if they somehow did, next person doesn't have to use it. Even if the next person does use it, this run isn't about rushing bosses anyway. Somehow that uses the cheese would likely be planning to build a nice base in which case, who am I to stop it? Then again, like I said I don't think anyone would bother making cheeses for one boss let alone like 5 of them.

I didn't think of that. I guess that would be fine, as long as it's not pearled crab king if the player REALLY wants bumper kits or trident they may go for it. Same is for misery toadstool, anyone can go for it as it's not mentioned in the list. Regular toadstool on the other hand is preserved.

@Guille6785I know you would be interested in participating and you have a broader reach to the community. Would you be interested in letting your viewers know about this event?

I still think it would be good if there was a day limit. Im not sure if people would be bothered to solve the game anyway but some might. It would stop one person just solving all resource problems forever and set up every boss, and add a motivation for the player to be more productive.

I feel like it should be the other way round for toadstool. Misery toadstool should be on the list instead of regular toadstool.

Also, does Klaus count as a seasonal boss? Does that mean he can replace Deerclops and ect?

i found out how, here's an example world to try this on (just wilson with a shovel and a science machine at portal)

Cluster_1.zip

to transfer the saved character to yourself, you need to:

1. open the world's folder and look into Master/save/session/(combination of letters and numbers). There you'll see a folder with a combination of letters as a name, remember that name

2. join the world. You should end up in character select

3. leave the world (don't need to pick a character before that)

4. look into that same folder again, now there'll be another folder. Copy the name of the new folder and then delete it. Then change the name of the old folder that came with the save file to the name of the folder that you just deleted

5. join the world and, if it worked, you should spawn in with the data of the saved character (wilson with a shovel in case of the world that i uploaded)

idk if this'll be used for this thing but at least it might end up being useful in the future

I agree that a day limit would be great but I can't tell if people would be able to kill their own bosses in a time limit. I don't want this to be a speedrun.

Yes but I don't think anyone would really want to take up the week for misery toadstool. Regular one would be good enough, wouldn't it?

It does yes, bosses I consider to be seasonal are written there.

That's amazing. Thank you very much.

This sounds like a fun and great idea!

If you go trough with the project, I would be glad to join! I am currently going on a vacation irl and will be outside for the first half of August; in September & onwards I will not have much free time either - So I would like to inherit the world on Week 3 or Week 2. However, I can't garantee that I will be available as irl stuff may come up, so it would be nice if there are standby players for those weeks ^_^

SEND ME IN, COACH! SEND ME IN!

I'd love to take part in this. I'm fine with whatever week, as long as I'm informed which one it is. This seems like a really cool idea, and I've been thinking of playing more DST again.

Yep, it definitely works thank you very much.
I managed to figure it out because I was somewhat experienced with messing around the world files but this is definitely way too complicated for the majority of the userbase. Also does anything change when it's caves?

  • Thanks 1

You'll probably need to do the rename in both, Master and Caves folders (new folder from joining will only appear in Master i think, so you'll just have to copy paste it's name for both, the original folder in Master and the original folder in Caves)

We currently have 6 players and 14 weeks. If you message your friends and inform them of this event, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, it is time to discuss if you want to have second weeks as well. I doubt we can get enough players fast enough at this point.

I think it would be for the best if it was an option to opt in for two weeks. I myself would be willing to do a second week.

Yup, it's already a thing. Which week do you want?
