OH MY ALTER. After what? 13 Y-E-A-R-S Klei has finally put geometrical placement in the base game. I want to know now everything. Why now? Why not before? What changed Klei's heart to finally implement it after all this time? 

I guess we can say now jokingly "better late than never".

This is one of the most subscribed mods (6.2 Mio.). It doesn't really change anything about the game, you can just make things look a bit nicer. I think they added it primarily for console players.

By any means it is THE most subscribed mod ever, not one. First place ever and one of the first mods ever made but that's why I'm asking it. Probably you weren't before on Don't Starve and just joined recently (2-3 years), but it was asked ad nauseam since.... ever, to be implemented in the game. You also said it yourself "It doesn't really change anything about the game, you can just make things look a bit nicer" exactly. Why Klei waited all this time? What happened? So many mods, feedbacks and help from the community arrived in the game but why geometric placement has been post-poned so much? I can guaranteed many people at this point didn't even thought this day would arrived (LMAO as I was writing Brago-sama posted his comment, proving my point), with how 11 years has passed since the mod creation, dayum. I'm very curious.

The most subscribed mod is Combined Status (8.6 Mio), Geometric Placement is on the fourth place (after Minimap HUD and Global Positions). I joined Don't Starve in January 2013. I think Klei wanted to use as less UI/information as possible. This was their choice for this game. They wanted to keep this philosophy, but there can always be a point where people can change their mind. Also I think developers usually don't like to implement mod content into their games because mods are always ideas/content from players. It's like copying other peoples work. I think that's the reason why Klei's implementation of this mechanic looks and works so different. I still prefer the mod, because it is perfect.

I don't think we will ever get an explanation. I'm just happy about this decision, especially for console players.

Oh okay, thanks :encouragement: I instead will remove my subscription from geometrical and play with the official one to see how it goes in the long run.

I think there's a notion of weighing the value of adding new features (especially global features like this one that interact with every part of the world) which is also a factor. You have to consider that whenever something is added, it isn't a one-time deal when it comes to continually updating games. People won't easily overlook bugs or broken features, so it is necessary to keep doing QA. Every additional feature is a new thing that needs maintenance as you keep piling on extra additional content. It's part of why it's not the simplest thing in the world for every dev team to implement every option imaginable in each game. There comes a workload cost with it.

That's not to say that geometric placement was some trivial thing that Klei could safely ignore when it comes to impact on the play experience, but I think the context of deciding whether or not to add something you officially support has some hidden costs that players won't generally concern themselves with.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was an important facet of why Terraria is taking so long between updates in more recent years.

I cannot explain how much this is going to improve the game for me as a primarily console player (Hopes it comes to Solo DS too! but that's another dream). Features like this should be baked into the game for sure and is going to make base building and mega worlding much better. Like I was playing Palworlds and they have a Snap/align feature for building and I'm just like how does this stuff NOT become the standards? Like any game hat has building should have a feature that lets you align, snap etc. It's about time for this game! I verbally shouted "NO!" (As in NO WAY!) When I was the video covering the update. . . I'm going to need a lot of pitchforks and hammers. .Thanks klei!
