Endgame walking cane?

Simple idea, endgame walking cane that one of the sides would provide. Because why not.
Such a walking cane would have slightly better stats, and maybe something else.

Lunar side could give us the new endgame waking cane.

Shadow side could give us an alternative endgame backpack (Please add reworked Vortex Cloak klei)

Maybe you can connect it to some kind of waypoint on your base (like an alter) and when running towards that alter from any point on the map it will give more speed. Also once per day you can teleport to that waypoint. I imagine your character stating, channeling energy, and after channeling energy you teleport to it

endgame walk cane is the orange staff

The pseudo-science station item tier has long since stopped being endgame and has become something more midgame.
But right, the existence of the lazy explorer complicates this idea a bit.

since when? since people are better at rushing ruins?

that doesnt mean ruin items aren't the highest tier anymore, you're just numb to it because the novelty is vanished.

Or you are extremely overrating rift gear. Other than fast repairs they're not amazing to the point they would make ruins gear obsolete.

This forum tries hard to make MOBA words fit in but the truth is dont starve doesn't have a "endgame", you just eventually run out of tasks and threats to do.

No I think that's just how the terms work.

Ruins is mid game because now there more content past it. People getting better at it/quality of the items doesn't matter. Definition wise it is now the mid game.

I think even if the lazy explorer isn’t an endgame cane upgrade, I would love if it got a mini-rework to allow you to “activate” the explorer to increase movement speed more at the cost of the durability draining as you move quicker, and a way to refuel it with orange gems to give more of a sink to them later on. Also, it would be preferable for it to not disperse into atoms and giving the cane back at 0%/not breaking at 0%.

Yeah but would prefer shadow one that gets faster the less moon is visble and in caves it could depends to nightmare circle :3

yeah, it should give smh around 35% boost on full moon and achive its peak efficiency when there is no moon maybe even 60% amplifier (it should be expensive item that allows you to skip running across map in the endgame) and smh like charlie protection so not enabling everyday full moon as soon as you can would serve as a viable option

If Ruins gear was balanced the same way the Lazy Explorer was nobody would even bother ever going to the ruins. The Lazy Explorer is terrible, and only used in like 2-3 scenarios across the entire game ever since it was first made. If bosses like Fuelweaver didn't exist literally nobody would bother making the Lazy Explorer because the Teleportation is too limited in every single aspect to be useful anywhere that isn't a very poorly generated world.

Honestly I just want a cane that I can toggle the teleport on or off. It felt really bad accidentally teleporting around and lose durability on item that requires you to go into the cave alll the way to the ruins just to craft it. I use a mod that do that currently but I wish it's in vanilla too.

This thread got me thinking about the Moon Stone transformation (changes a Star Callers staff into a Moon Callers staff) and i wonder what y'all think of more lunation-transformations for other staves, and similar handheld items like the walking cane?

But is endgame when you have access to enough orange gems to spam the telepuff ability

What for? So that you can walk 10% faster than with a standard cane? Just play as a movement-focused character or tame a beefalo instead of powercreeping a perfectly good item

Pretty much this is how I feel. Though I guess having an upgrade to the Lazy Explorer so it can be repaired as @fabin stated would work I suppose. Though frankly just allowing the Lazy Explorer to be repaired with nightmare fuel much like its Lazy Forager companion would work as well.

If it's post rift then the walking cane would still be the best movement tool from the first winter to the endgame besides beefalo. The only problem I see with a better walking cane is that movement speed already feels pretty strictly balanced, which is why a repairable Lazy Explorer would be the best Walking cane upgrade imo.

This would be wrong in so many ways.

Gems are already very devaluated, you barely waste any orange gems compared to the ammount you get per cleaning plus the new trees

Nightmare was already a common material. Now, with the new shadow related monsters (specially the ickers), you swim in NF making you able to spam the telepuff constantly

If anything they could make them not break at 0% and let us socked new gems to refill it

Edit. I don't get how op got so much support when post rift walking cane feels like another cheap and lazy idea to add boring progression to the game. The better lazy Explorer is called beefalo. Doesn't make sense to add a more speedy walking cane when klei just added a wigfrid's spear post rift which is similar in speed to the walking cane and a new saddle which isn't faster than the fastest saddle

If you don't want a beefalo but want more speed just use a magi

This explains why klei is adding such low quality and uninspired progression lately...

If anything, they should keep adding early and late game alternatives to walking cane and telepuffing
