What spells would be basekit alongside them? Evelo believes that Flame Cast and weaker versions of the other spells should be base-kit, as well as a new neutral affinity spell.

I don't think the obnoxious ember system should be forced basekit, at least since it was added in a skill tree you can ignore it completely by not picking skills that unlock it.

Wild Rifts don’t really give the same vibe as Lego Fortnite rifts, because in DST the rifts spawning locations can be manipulated “opps there’s a base here? Well I’ll just politely move this rift over here in this designated area the player didn’t build a base within so rift content can spawn”

If a rift spawned in my base and dug up all my crops, destroyed all my structures and killed Chester and Glommer (all while sending out brightshades) I would not play the game after that. There is a difference between challenge and bad game design.

fyi thermal stones weren't any weaker in DS relative to other insulation options (they work very similarly with a few slight differences that aren't necessarily unique to thermal stones), not disagreeing with your post but idk why this is such a common myth

they're probably even stronger with the unlimited durability

The only decent skill tree is Walter's. Every other skill tree ranges from garbage (e.g. Wolfgang) to bad (e.g. Wormwood). Walter's is the only skill tree that has every single option be a very good choice where you choose things because you want to, with the typical skill tree only having a handful of decisions to make because most of the tree is just linear repetition of the same few upgrades, and of those few decisions you make most are made for you because there are clearly correct & incorrect choices. Every single time I inspect Walter the skill tree looks extremely different. Every time I inspect Wormwood the tree is practically identical, with maybe 1 skill changed, 2 if they're feeling extra unique.

As a Wormwood main I hardly change his skills its literally just the entire right side and the mushroom skills for ipecacs. I would like if he had more appealing left side skills but I'd rather they just get the skill trees out of the way and be done with them.

I mean, DST of course is having more combat things added, one person can only enjoy holding F and A with 1 weapon for so long before wanting a new shiny toy to play with. But no, I don't think it's overwhelmed with combat focus. Things are being added to fight, things are being added to kill those new things. Makes sense since klei added the new damage mechanic not too long ago with planar, so of course they need to have some combat focus to polish that whole mechanic to prevent it just being an annoying shield every late game boss has.

I think most trees are well implemented, my only real complaint is Wilson (bland as hell even for "the learning character") Wolfgang (only slightly and mostly because klei had improved skilltree ideas after the first batch, could have some cooler stuff instead of 5 skills for the gym and 5 for planar damage. don't want like, flamethrower, but could have small flavor skills like Wendy's dead character ghosts doing damage) and Wortox (only slightly, still a 7/10 tree, but like, that score is held up entirely by the jars and the map hopping skills. Still not a fan of any other part of the nice side, basically being nice requires multiplayer, and at that point being naughty is equally if not more helpful, potentially)

If anyone still wonder why chinese part of DST community has become more combustible than ever on Wendy skilltree problem, I would say that's the reason.

These complaints about From Beyond arc in this video are very common in the chinese community. Also with another extra main complaint is about the new content (rift in particular) being too focused on picking on players and not offering rewards for beating them or interesting solutions.

Noticed now the post lol. Zamn! I completely did not expect the results of the third question, in "Abstain from answering the question"

Btw Wumpair my "skill tree = bad" is because I can't do the full updated explanation for skill trees as of now, for time and will reasons. I will, with time. But if you're curious where I'm coming from, here the original culprit of all:

4. 3. To what extent do you agree with the sentence: 'DST has become too combat-focused and lost its niche survival aspect'? [In this context 'combat-focused' is considered as something negative]

To the point of even adding optional mobs instead of using them as survival dangers like hounds or shadows. Ink trio and rictus feel very artificial, anticlimactic and casual. They should be a danger not a encounter you plan... they arent even tree guard level giants...

Brightshades were added to be a survival combat mob but they arent a danger considering they only really affect the survival aspect if you use farms or, if for some reason, someone who activates the rifts is still using berry bushes. They are also stationary and you can simply spam a ranged weapon without engaging with them...

Lately they tried to add more survival content but i think they failed at delivering it. Acid rain and hail are too binary, if you dont have umbralla you suffer, if you have it you are inmune

Ah but see, that’s where your wrong.. it DOES actually help to develop the game, it replaces Catcoon with a Varg-like Variant (im just going to guess it would cough up hairballs that slow or stick you in place like Ewecus) But if Catcoon are now Catmando’s then obtaining the Cattail Resource becomes more of a task then just hitting a harmless Catcoon 3 times before it even has time to react.

Cat Tails are being used in a odd number of character skill tree crafts (in fact Walter needs them for the most extended range upgrades on his slingshot)

This is how you make a game harder for Day to Day Survival challenges outside of optional boss fights you can ignore if you don’t desire the bosses specific loot drops.

You're welcome to research it, it was a dev joke...

I can't think of any instance I would actively do a hunt for cat tails, if the above was the case I'd never use them. Such a limited use item Mike :s
