Klei, congratulations on the excellent work! I imagine it must have been a lot of work, but you managed to capture all the essence of what Walter needed and what the community asked for/suggested.

I even suggested some ideas that were implemented, congratulations on your courage, to even change the character's base kit, filling the gap of years without updating the character!

Hey guys!  The new Walter skill tree is finally ready for Beta.  There's still some work to be done to finish off one last skill, and to polish the icons and skill descriptions and strings, but it's in a good spot for testing now.  Since there's a lot of new things and some new control mechanics, I won't go into too much detail on each item below, and rather just let you guys try it out in game!

 

Changes

  • Players can now feed their mount while riding them.
  • Walter’s basekit
    • Woby’s bags can now be opened while mounted.
    • Riding directly on Woby’s thick fur now provides some thermal insulation.
    • Woby can now be commanded to “Stay” in one spot.
    • Big Woby can now manually transform back to Small Woby.
    • Added a hunger meter for Woby.
    • Walter himself will now gain 50% extra sanity from storytelling if he has an audience.  This scales up to a maximum of 75% extra sanity with a bigger audience.
  • Walter’s skill tree
    • Increased the duration of Mark of Brilliance to 30 seconds.
    • Removed the Woby Badge system.
    • Condensed most of the Slingshot Customizer and Ammo skills.
    • Added new Scouting skills for surviving in the wilderness alongside his companion Woby.  Here are some highlights:
      • Crafting skills for a Portable Campfire, improved first aid, and more…
      • A drying rack attachment for Woby’s backpack, along with a new recipe for turning Monster Jerky into long lasting Woby Snacks.
      • “Woby Here, Woby There” is a courier skill, which did not make it into this build yet.
    • Added new Woby skills to improve her utility and mobility.  Here are some highlights:
      • Skills to increase Woby’s speed and endurance, as well as to aid Walter in his various everyday actions.
      • Sprinting after running for a few seconds.  Sprinting has a fixed speed that is not affected by Woby’s hunger level.
      • Dashing by double-clicking or double-tapping in a direction.
      • Lunar and Shadow variants that modify Woby’s sprinting or dashing abilities.

 

These are all really sick, the hunger meter is such a nice QOF, he feels like he'd be a top tier character for the early/mid game when you look at how accesible all these new crafts/skills are. Good job!

I don't think that will happen. Look at pre-skilltree Walter. He needed a skill tree that essentially overhauled the character. I don't think I've seen any Wendy player disagree with that.

Wendy players, I'm advocating for you. Please don't prove me wrong

I don't think anyone's denying walter's tree is necessary, I think it'll just increase the amount of calls for Wendy's tree to be redone in a similar manner. Who knows.

Yes I did questioning and challenging the flexible standard of folks to different characters. If you don't like it, go say "no" to the flexible standard at the beginning.

And I HAD already clarified that the soul piercing and the soul jar things don't bother me personally many times. I HAD clarified that my aims was just for questioning the flexible standard before.

 So could I get your words as a dissatisfied about any questioning toward the unfair flexible standard?

now if you can only add two more things. An option to “Lock” Wobys loot storage so other players can’t just rob the things from my personal storage without me granting them permission in doing so (kinda like how Non-Wurts can’t step foot into her Merm-Kingdom without her Clever Disguise on.)

And Life Jacket Woby: I just really want to see a cute animation of Woby dragging Walter out of the Water onto the shore and then licking his face or something to wake him up. <3

I want them to retcon the bee halloween skin into Wee MacTusk with ice hound Woby

The new features of Woby are quite impressive! The updated big Woby is more focused on daily survival aspects, and its movement speed is remarkably fast. However, we can no longer have the brave Woby, and when it comes to combat, beefalo still seems to be the safer choice. This makes the dash ability seem somewhat wasteful, as it is a highly valuable skill in battle. By the way, could we enable the Shield of Terror to have a double-tap dash ability? This is a capability it possessed in its original world.
