The real problem with the Maul was you'll waste more repair kits just to make it 'live' more and not losing those upgrades it had after getting to level 3. It's why I don't bother getting the Maul when playing with friends (especially in pubs), cuz I have no way to track its hunger.

A plane version of Bat bat, but somehow the healing ability has been removed.

It needs to increase its healing to Bat bat or slightly higher, and decrease damage as not to take over niche of Void Reaper.

I am using it and it works well with my usual game loop although the summers get annoying when I venture into the Antlion desert or travel inside moonstorms because the Void Cowl substitutes for the Brightshade Helm and only the latter negates storm effects. Simply sticking to the Brightshade Helm and Brightshade Sword is a probably lot more time efficient when it comes to maintenance and fighting.

i just wish i could just give it food to repair it instead of farming for repair kits its such a cool concept for a long world but you defenitly need to wrap it up to keep it from going crazy

I really think the biggest issues are the durability drain and the complete reverting of it when broken. I feel having one or the other in terms of downsides is fine, but having both is a bit too much and it’s why a lot of people would rather go with the shadow reaper as a more consistent weapon (myself included).

Otherwise, I think the weapon is Alright, and it’s still pretty dang potent if you do want to handle it’s downsides for short-medium term use. Just gets a bit too cumbersome for long term use, especially if you are more focused on building than actually fighting mobs.

this is the most useless weapon ever. With jellybeans being a thing and also foods that heal like 60 hp, there is zero need for this weapon. I have used this weapon once ever

when it came out it had crazy regen on hit but the community got that nerfed immediately.

The maintenance part is actually alright, at least for my gameplay. I still run at a rather big net gain of Void Repair Kits, although I mostly fight riding an Ornery Beefalo. Playing as Willow has me farming small mobs for embers anyway where I set them on fire and finish them off with the Shadow Maul which is enough to keep it sated.

The annoying part is the offset from carrying around a Void Cowl instead of a Brightshade Helm since the shadow gear doesn't provide any environmental protection, or useful perks outside of combat.

It looks slicks however. :cool-new::afro:

But it cost a possessed heart to craft, so it should be at least better than the scythe

I think a satisfying amount of Life Steal is worth about as much as a possessed heart.

If not, I would like to have some added value other than Damage. If it had more Damage than Shadow Reaper, Shadow Reaper would likely not be used as a weapon. Shadow Reaper's aesthetics and his personality are worth respecting.

It takes a lot of effort to do as much damage as a scythe or brightshade sword. Also, when it breaks, it returns to level 1, which is probably the part where you will give up on the weapon or use rollback and try not to make the same mistake. It is hard not to break it by accident because you have to keep an eye on your inventory, there is no warning that it is close to breaking. It may give a warning similar to the warning it gives when it dies of starvation when its durability is below 5%, or it may show a red effect on the screen like beefalo.
