Don't Starve Together is getting more and more negative reviews

Recommended Posts

Why? Because the forums always listen to those who have hardly played the game and those who are crazy fans, and almost block those who refute them. There is no other way, we can only give negative reviews to fight back.

What caused this? The setting is laughable. It was the changes in the test server that annoyed the players. Have you ever heard of any test server changes that would affect the players' mood so much? Now you heard it. Yes, it was him, Jason, an "excellent" designer. He once designed the skill tree of the Valkyrie that attracted a lot of bad reviews, updated the giant worm that many people hated (and he even insisted that the setting could be turned off. If you design a function that players need to turn off, it actually shows that the design has failed), and his evil liquid that runs counter to the style of Don't Starve (I have heard people hate evil liquid at least more than once)

I won't insult you, I'm just stating everything in the hope that you'll make better updates to Don't Starve in the future (I must be dreaming)

I know this thread'll get locked and maybe just outright deleted soon, but I do want to go ahead and express a genuine appreciation for Jason. I don't know him personally, just what I see here on the forums, but being there for Hamlet early access was an awesome experience with just how much him and bizziboi (who I think works on Rotwood now?) would communicate about the specific direction content was taking, even giving explanations on specific bugs as to why they will or won't stay. I trust him and the other devs a lot to deliver us a quality update.

I wish this chinese brigading would just stop, those spammers are single-handedly ruining the perception of their own community by being so salty, aggressive and spammy with broken English simply because they were mad in 10 seconds of looking at Wendy's skill tree and now want the game to crash and burn.

Defending your own echo chamber what a surprise...no wonder different people from here will have another take on how the game is.

If the game is getting negative reviews NOW I assure you that it isn’t because of One Beta Update for one specific character in the game.

Those bad reviews are probably more warranted by going 5+ years of adding an ocean into DST and a Return of Them questline, and the both of those things still feeling like they’re just starting out as ideas 5 years later.

I was told to “just trust the process, what we’re doing will make sense in the long haul.”

And I’ve been holding onto that hope that they’ll eventually release a HUGE update that nicely ties everything together with a not so bite-sized (previously monthly..) update.

If ANY character update deserves to be bombarded by bad reviews, it was hand down Wilson’s.

WES had a better rework than his, and Wes hasn’t even gotten his skill tree yet.

Still 94% of positive reviews in steam...

94% is certainly a good number, but for DST, 94% is very poor. Because this number used to be 98%.
And it is worth mentioning that the recent price reduction has increased this number.
Of course, some people confine themselves to praise, believing that all accusations are irrational.
Joew can announce that the voting on the forum is manipulated, and perhaps no one can refute him because those votes only had less than 200 participants. But Steam's review has over 300000 participants. I really want to know how Joe evaluates and explains 98% to 94%

This really cannot be due to any one character.
I have been following the reviews of several games (DST, rimworld...) on Steam for a long time.
The decline in DST evaluation is a continuous process.
In fact, the reviews of many good games are declining, and players can point out their problems. Rimworld is due to extreme price increases. It's hard to believe that a game of less than 1GB costs about $60 (in China, at the same time, DST only costs less than $4). This price can buy two BMWs. But no one denies that this game is very fun.
But DST has never increased in price and continues to update. I think I can only assume that DST has had significant issues in terms of direction (and possibly quality) for a long time

JoeW tries to be as neutral as possible on the forums, and also Jason shouldn't be blamed because he is trying his best. No one in Klei should be named out for blame.

That said, I criticize Klei for they don't address that some users  responding to "forum outsiders" as toxically as the Steam bombing campaign. Why Klei Comunity Managers aren't addressed bad people who have had their posts deleted again and again? In this case, I can't blame people who have been chased off the forums for taking their pent up unfocused anger out on Steam.

All of that can be explained by brigading, Steam doesn't (as it should imo) lock comments and reviews in their own categories, meaning countries with huge populations like China or potentially India can easily review-bomb anything they want, just like people did to both Onepiece and SNK to defend the other at the top of the leaderboard. DST hasn't gotten buggier, had good features removed, increased in price or done anything to worsen. Wanting them to have taken a different road doesn't mean they deleted what you considered good at the time.

Praising mob-rule is anti-intellectual to the extreme, and we've seen the bottom of argumentation on the forums these last 2 weeks due to a foreign mob coming in. Badly translated "Klei bad, they do garbage" with 0 propositions on what should be done in their eyes. They don't like a tiny aspect of the game that in truth doesn't even impact them (nothing has been lost, once again) so they try to strong-arm the devs into doing their bidding via the threat of spreading undeserved negativity, that's pathetic in my eyes.

Thank you very much for your opinion. Even though you lost your eyes, you still persisted in expressing your suggestions on the forum. Can I give you a pair of sunglasses as a thank you?

Ok that one was genuinely funny, I'll give you that

And yet some mobs are still bugged: double Scrappig, 'Jesus' Frostjaw, big worm spawning time, etc etc.

Especially Frostjaw, it was one year old already yet the problem persists.

Tencent as their new owner being the controversy that tanked Klei's reviews greatly. There's still occasional reviews coming about Tencent ruining everything.

Recent reviews being negative is some kind of hate towards Jason and skill trees. Wendy skill tree being a big factor to this whole situation as I've talked to some Chinese players in Beta Discussions. So they put a target on his head cause of it.

Generally Wendy is extremely popular in China so having not to be careful about how she's developed is generally a bad call.

There's communication that is lacking in Chinese community from what I understood. They are incredibly frustrated and they say that their voices aren't heard.

Also those that are most defeated in life by playing this game writes their woes lol.

Well also there's the game's grindy nature. That's part of the game tho.

Pretty much the entire game is about finding ways to reduce the grind with better ways to maintain heat, light, hunger, sanity... It's the very reason we do most anything in the game, to either survive by itself, or survive better and more easily.

soooo, you?

If you really have nothing better to say other than provoking the other, then I suggest you make your way out.

Targeting the lock post, the update over the past four or five years deserves a bad review. Don't talk about it for free.

There is a saying in China.

"Free is the most expensive" China is all free games, a lot of paid content in the game, except for this year's Black Myth, there are few well-known paid games.

Salvation is activated.

喜欢说免费更新,应该去看这些:泰拉瑞亚和星露谷物语.

If you like to talk about free updates, you should read these: Tararia and stardew valley。

Who are the majority of the playerbase? That's right Chinese.

there is good reason why the chinese people are mad. Klei developers have been slacking this entire year and deserves criticism.

Tencent is indeed a pest, but it seems that it has not made any changes to DST. After mocking NewHome for several months in the Chinese community, people never mentioned it again, and I have long forgotten about it. (I don't think anyone is crazy enough to play NewHome, right? Maybe?)
On the contrary, DST's positive review rate is slowly and continuously decreasing.
It is worth mentioning that the people who complained about Wendy on the forum this year were not a major part of the Chinese community. More people are joking on TIEBA: What should wick's skill tree look like? Make a backpack to hold a magic book, it will fall to the ground when opened. What should Wanda's skill tree look like? Make a box to hold a clock, it will fall to the ground when opened. They seem to have lost interest in speaking out on the forum and are now endlessly mocking a terrible design that Klei has already modified.
