Battle pass !!!

Recommended Posts

Battle pass eventually degrade everthing a game can offer cuz greed exist.. Not to mention anything involving timi and tencent with a pass is a recipe for the death of a game, it's just matter of time.. Speaking for experience since i played/ still play some of their mobas Aov/Hok/ Pkmn unite.

倒不如取消免费更新,付费dlc登场,这样klei能把人员放在不要饿死上,而不是销量小千倍万倍的roguelike类型游戏上,分离玩家,谁在乎呢?

It would be better to cancel free updates and pay for dlc, so that klei can focus on not starving to death, rather than on roguelike games that sell thousands of times less, and separate players, who cares?

与其没有质量的免费内容,更需要的是付费内容dlc,海洋,群落,异常状态,有趣boss,艰难环境,新的建筑,新的工具,交易系统……玩家所有想要的一切。

Instead of free content without quality, what is needed is paid content dlc, ocean, community, abnormal state, interesting boss, difficult environment, new buildings, new tools, trading system. Everything the player wants.

If anybody wants to experience that for DST... curiously enough you are in luck lol, because you can.

Back in the start of 2023 we've made a satiric Battle Pass (yet it's more fun than those usually come by !) for a yearly event we bring back each spring (generally from April to June) on our mod Cherry Forest. You can also try it anytime you want by enabling it from world settings outside of the default period.

It's called the Beetlegale event and it features the 'Beetle Pass', 50 ranks with skins and more things you can get from it. You rank up from completing bug hunting related random tasks and can even complete a collection with some nice new + vanilla bug data. There's also a currency related to the event you can get from doing the tasks and timed trials used to purchase special nets and other tools or decorations.

It's cross-world progression and our players like it quite a lot, so while I didn't really expect to say that here, heck why not try it, should be worth your time if you don't shy to use mods... but er, officially Battle Pass(es ?) are very soulless, paid or not so you can't trust these things to blend well with the identity of DST especially. Except for the joke like we did wishing for this is a terrible thing.

Yo, that all sounds sick. Y'all are really getting good at these mods!

I think most people dislike battle passes? As they're a way to force people's engagement and that rely heavily on FOMO to keep things going? It's a very anti-consumer type of system.

Simply having a bunch of microtransactions that you can buy whenever you want is much more consumer-friendly, so... I honestly don't see why anyone would want a battle pass added to a game.

Like, if the battle pass changed nothing in terms of previous systems, but also gave you extra free stuff from playing the game... Then sure, I'd like it. But I can't imagine any company ever implementing a battle pass to their game without also removing some other stuff they gave you in the past because it's not giving it to you in the battle pass.

... Okay, that's not 100% true. Hearthstone actually implemented a battle pass that was a strict upgrade of their previous system of daily missions. They actually increased your daily gold income with their battle pass, so I can't complain about Hearthstone's implementation of it. But those are very odd and rare cases (and even then, Hearthstone's battle pass still uses FOMO tactics on players), and I generally won't assume a battle pass is done in good faith, so... No thanks.

As much as people hated the game Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League I actually DO like the way it’s battle pass system is set up.

you can select any of the previous season of battle passes and work on unlocking that content as there is no “Deadline” to unlock your pass contents within.

Battle Passes with Deadlines where you pay an Upfront price to try and earn all the content you paid for in advance are the worst…

That entire concept should be burned in a dumpster fire.

And… AND it goes entirely against Klei’s original decision of not adding a bunch of on screen missions & objectives that they tried before and felt did not fit the direction of the game they wanted to create.

it still a fun game but i wished we got more rewards for playing ranked instead of a silly sticker and copy pasted clothes, They once had given a really cool slowbro farmer skin for free, my heart almost jumped out at the time thinking it could be diferent just for once. Later on Ex Pokémon arived, breaking the game completly with the legendary pokémon must be gods and so on.. Nowdays we got something worse than a battle pass, a mini battle pass not to mention the battlepass skins with effects that are sold separately for more profit.

Wait until you discover that the prices of some Licences hit the house of 16.000 nowdays when we thought 10 was absurd before haha, it's so controversial that the best method to farm money is to afk a month, them return to get the bonus for not being logged in for a while, dupe your best licence and double the coins for a chance to try play anything new.

With the type of game that DST is, this would be a fast track to burning out as much of the playerbase as possible. A battlepass works well in games that have quick, snappy matches, where you can get some battlepass XP every 5 minutes to enhance the dopamine hit of winning (or dampen the negative feelings from losing)... but DST is a survival sandbox, and one that seems to be becoming a bit infamous amongst older players for just how time consuming it is to get anything done. Even just hopping on a Klei server and enjoying an autumn with randoms will take up 3 hours of your day, there's no equivalent of playing a few "matches" to get a bit of battlepass xp, claiming a tier, then closing the game. Unless the battlepass "seasons" were ridiculously long, or the time to complete one was cartoonishly short, this would turn the game into a full-time job and discourage a lot of us who prefer to return to the game every few updates rather than playing it 24/7.

The year is 202X. Klei listened to this thread. There is now a battle pass with daily quests, and most skins have been reworked to be available exclusively through purchase or randomly being available if you grind your battle pass enough (and the battle pass is a $10 a month subscription fee). Spools are no longer a thing and skins cannot be weaved. All characters but Wilson must be purchased from the store (Wes is the most expensive). The world ends.

I'd say it's actually very pro-consumerism. Just not really fun or enjoyable for anyone.

That is what means anti-cosumer/anti-costumer... paying for skins that you need to unlock by playing...the ultimate rat kid controlled by fomo experience.

Should be illegal but casinos still making money out of addicts, we cant expect this being under strong regulations

It *is* consumerism at its finest.

Who cares that you alienate five players that would play the game two hours a month, when you can get one that would play twenty per week? And to keep a constant revenue? The rest can go consume other games.

The players become defined by the fact they play a given game, just like a clothing brand.

It is not anti-consumer, because this is what peak consumerism is. Miserable satisfaction-hunting only to see a skin/number go up, in a perpetual loop.

It's pro-consumerism and anti-consumer. It's possible to be both and the terms should not be conflated.

Consumerism is an ideology and financial model where companies seek profit above all else and consumers (i.e. regular people) buy for dubious reasons, such as wanting to have more than those around them or feeling compelled to have whatever the latest product is.

"Consumer" is a common, if somewhat demeaning term for anyone who purchases a product.

Consumer protection laws are anti-consumerism, but pro-consumer because they often require companies to meet a certain standard of quality and prohibit them from screwing over the people who they're selling things to.

Deep Rock Galactic's model of cosmetics is anti-consumerism and pro-consumer because it places profit second and customer satisfaction first.
Klei's existing model is a compromise, since while you can get basically everything for free with spools and there's no gambling involved, it's way faster to spend money.
Battle pass systems tend to be very anti-consumer and are pure consumerism.
