thankyou, i voted!

for context i quite literally rejoined the forum after nearly two years away just so i could tell the staff how happy i was with the updates AND with only one exception i have been between accepting and super heckin' pleased with all the updates so far

Skill trees really make me unhappy, but other stuff added I found quite nice. Especially the Hallowed Nights update, that was awesome. As for the format, I didn't notice things getting much better, but they didn't become worse either. So neutral it is.

This year's update is stuffed with skilltrees and had little actual content, the title "From beyond" also seems to be underdeveloped. We got stronger shadow creatures and lunar spirits that parasites on plants or corpses of giants, but what else? What do Charlie and Wagstaff up to? What would they bring to constant eventually? There's not even a single sign of these.

I think that the updates with random content vaguely connected by a theme that we've gotten this year are great for letting developers focus on a major portion of the game to improve. The staying afloat update was my favorite this year since it improves the ocean alot.

With that being said, I do hope more focus is put on specific parts of the from beyond arc, since the random mix of qol and other content really hasn't done a lot to progress the from beyond arc at all. I'd rather have updates that focus on other parts of the game once the arc is actually completed, as all the other parts of the game are largely fine as is.

I would say overall the updates range in the B-B+ ballpark. There are some issues I have (especially depths of duplicity…) but for the most part the updates have been pretty good, especially scrappy scavengers/ocean QOL and skilltrees. The amount of convenience those updates brought alone was really nice in a lategame context, and I certainly have gotten a lot of mileage out of them (shrinking my chest storage to a tenth of what it was alongside being able to use wo/winbot for item pickup in a majority of my areas being some of the highlights!)

I do feel the change in update pace has shown just how much community feedback, well, matters. There are a lot of things that were tweaked based on feedback that I imagine never would have occurred otherwise. I don’t think the pace from 1 month to 3 changes that outcome, other than maybe bugfixing as they seem to spend ~2 weeks fixing issues before they move on to another update, so there seems to be less fixes overall, though I can’t say for certain.

I think overall my biggest gripes are just in depths of duplicity. There are a lot of things I am still on the fence about with the great depths worm, and the rock lobster herd issues really didn’t settle with me well, though the latter is a bit biased from having to deal with rock lobster overpopulation in DS. I also have a lot of nitpicky stuff there (I still wish Icker’s were not overabundant in areas with structures/a way to counter them from not spawning in specific areas, alongside the fact they can one shot….) I do feel a bit bad since I know they specifically mentioned a lot of the team went on vacation when working in the update, but it’s unfortunate it seems a lot of pain points resulted from that that haven’t fully resolved.

eh

yotd was a small event i wasnt expecting much and didnt get much

scrappy scavengers was decent nothing amazing but decent

i dont care for wurt but the rest of the content in staying afloat was stuff i liked

depths of duplicity was the biggest let down for me since the main thing that i wanted (atrium changes) happened after the update and the other content was just like whatever

If you enjoy character skill trees this years updates were great for you.
If your hoping Klei ever adds a new island out at sea the same size and scope as lunar but with its own weather hazards like lunacy.. you were left wanting more.

But.. next years roadmap is the OFFICIAL 10 Year Anniversary of DST and I’m expecting some pretty huge surprises to come from that.

Ultimately between the lack of significant meaningful content updates, over focus on busted skill trees that make characters too strong or remove their downsides (I don’t think any actual Wendy main ever wanted a 1200hp Abby..) and much of the good stuff being locked behind late game Rifts

I feel like it may just be time for me to move on to other games now.. but, I’ll wait to see how Wendy’s skill tree & that 10 Year Anniversary Roadmap turns out before I decide rather or not it’s time to move on to new endeavors.

Give caves of qud a go if you like roguelikes, it's amazing for someone wanting a challenge

I voted neutral on the second question but I'm not exactly neutral, I'd rather they increase the intervals between updates so they release more substantial and complete updates, instead of releasing two half moon, half shadow updates and a fifth one that tries to fix the flaws of the previous ones, they release everything at once so we can get into the game and play a complete experience and not an alpha so we can imagine what the game will be like in 5 updates when everything starts to make sense (or not in some cases). But in the end Klei kept releasing updates of the same size, also in parts, so what really changed? Since everything remained the same I can't say I'm in favor of the change, we keep receiving updates and wondering what's on the horizon only to discover that the horizon has given us a literal junkyard without any relevance and the quadrillions of updates giving planar damage don't matter at all YET.

We'll have to applaud Klei if they can make it through another year of just re-releasing character changes so we can kill the same spiders faster and faster, because look, if any other game kept going around in circles like this it would probably be dead by now. They really made a really incredible solid game that is loved by everyone because it wasn't Wagstaff's dump update that held these players back for sure.

I've been playing this game for a long time, and overall I'm quite satisfied. The recent updates have added a lot of content, making more players willing to play the same save file for a long time. However, there are some aspects I'm not entirely happy with. I really like the art style of "Don't Starve," which is one of the reasons I chose it, but the recent art style differs quite a bit from the original. It's not that it's bad, but it's just not my favorite.

Additionally, in China, if you don't purchase or rent a server, the network stability when playing with friends is poor, and there are often high ping values in-game, which makes the experience of playing together quite disappointing.

把一些单机版,熔炉的技能塞进人物技能树,一些应该是共用的科技,列如共享箱子,薇机器人,为了强制使用这些角色。

Put some stand-alone, furnace skills into the character skill tree, some should be shared technology, such as shared boxes, Wei robot, in order to force the use of these characters.

“非常有意思的更新”

A very interesting update

我被迫说这些话,不然会被孝子说免费的更新还想怎样,科雷小公司开发别的游戏去了,谁让你玩了,你在挑起仇恨言论。

I am forced to say these words, or else I will be told by the filial son that free updates do not want, Corey small company to develop other games, who let you play, you are provoking hate speech.

比起技能树,我更在意的是。“对今年更改的四个季度更新表示满意,会做好收尾工作,然后开始休假,休假回来放出明年预告。”

I care more about it than the skill tree. "I am satisfied with the four quarterly updates that have been changed this year. I will finish the work, and then I will take a vacation and come back with a forecast for next year."

素材复用真是太辛苦了,修改数值太辛苦了,搬运模组太辛苦了,应该多放几天。

It is too hard to reuse the material, it is too hard to modify the value, and it is too hard to move the module, so we should keep it for a few more days.

It felt like the quantity within the updates decreased rather than increased.

I feel like that this year of contents were not less but had less of an impact and didn't change or add much outside of skilltrees which many people dont like.

Well that’s pretty obvious isn’t it? I can only enjoy Walters (sorry Klei.. still boring looking..) Skill Tree, if I pick to play as Walter.

But if Klei would ever port the shipwrecked and hamlet DLCs into DST I could enjoy that content as any character I want to play as.

Im pretty sure it’s not hard to see why people dislike skill trees.

Wendy (the character I main) has a current beta skill tree, FINALLY it’s her turn to get her skill tree… I should be jumping for joy, or over the moon in excitement or whatever- But after having watched the skill tree in action, I’m not all that excited for it.

Even though Klei gave me things I had been asking for for like idk ever since reworks (not skill trees) REWORKS were started? Haunt ability, ability to move or create new tombstones. <3

The thing here though is that.. between Wendy’s skill tree I can only enjoy while playing as Wendy and a huge SW/Hamlet quality expansion I can enjoy as any character I desire to play as.

Obviously I’m going to prefer the huge expansion.

And honestly at this point: I wouldn’t even care if I had to pay for it as a premium DLC I just want something “bigger” than what we’ve been getting.

And preferably a “Complete” and fully thought out something, rather than dragging on for 4+ years of “just trust the process it’ll make sense when we’re done with it.”
