Was it known that Telelocator Focuses work the same way as Winona's Telepads?

And they were ignored because of their cost?

It seems like a very good teleportation option for creating teleportation networks for end-game, with the addition of Sproutrocks producing gems for us.

Edit: I made this post because I woke up and was curious if it works this way. I never used them to be honest. Will now though after my testing told me it's possible.

I remember this being decently popular in Hamlet, whenever Wagstaff's telepads were added and people realized telefocuses actually worked on the same distance mechanic, but I'm unsure of if this knowledge ever transferred to the DST side of the community. Maybe it was dismissed at the time because DS had the End's Well but DST had no similarly lucrative source of purple gems? Either way it's definitely something to consider now that they're as common as gold in a megabase scenario.

Since hamlet i have been using them to travel from my base in the oasis to the center of the world and viceversa

Its a great way to save time at a cheap cost (purple gems are ridiculous cheap) and as a way to prevent getting ambushed by deerclops and bearger when your base is giant

I wish there were something similar for the base or simply make it work downstairs, is a shadow item after all

Yeah. The main downside of this is that it doesn't work in the caves, which is a huge shame. Can't we just have some shadow related teleport craft with the new rift content? That would be amazing. An upgrade to the Telelocator Focus, but crafting one requires 3 Possessed Shadow Atriums, and the Bone Helm I guess. Powered by Pure Horror.

yes, the cost is high, but in hamlet wagstaff's pads do not work the same way winona's work in DST.

reason you can make network in dst is that the game considers player's position on the pad when determining distance to target pad, so moving slighlty towards another pad (while still standing on the origin pad) tilts the game choice towarsd that pad. in hamlet only pad's position is ignored and if there are multiplie pads in the exact same distance from origin, you always land on the one that is first in the array, moving slightly on the pad does not influence where you teleport

Without Sproutrocks or Houds farm, the cost of Telelocator Focuses is too high for regular use like Winona's Telepad. Hamlet has End's Well, which allows you to trade 1 Nightmare Fuel for about 2 purple gems, making it worthwhile as regular use.

I hate gemmed telelocators inside my base, they are so noisy, I don’t know why they need to sound so loud with 3 gems, you can hear them resonating from a screen away, it drives me insane… Would be awesome if we could choose between active focuses for them to be truly useful though.

I hope there would be some upgrade to that structure and some buff to Winona's. It's convenient when wanted to do something quick to get to places, Winona having the discount way to travel while purple gems should at least allow us to focus where we travel.

The biggest issue with the telelocator focus/staffs are the maintenance, wherea winona teleport network can be infinitely powered with very little input from the player, but a telelocator requires you to have the staff, a fueled focus, and a steady income of purple gems in each place you'd want to place them, making them less reliable in the long term and more annoying to deal with

Personally, I just go world shopping to limit on travel time in a world I intend to spend a large amount of time on

I personally wish it was possible to focus to whichever focus was loaded on the map, like @This14Real said. While purple gems are considerably easier to get later on, it’s still not completely trival compared to something like Winona’s teletransport stations/Wanda watches, and attempting to pull off something similar to a Winona setup with 3+ focuses is very expensive on somewhat uncommon resources and your own sanity stats, alongside being very time consuming. I feel a post shadow rift upgrade for the focus would be nice for a functionality like that, especially with the idea of it having a feature to warp you around the caves as well.

I prefer a change to the base item rather than an upgrade. Feels as wrong as fixing bad characters with skill trees. The base content should be good by their own, not via band aid fixes

I think that making us be able to chose to which telelocator teleport we move plus making the staff have 10 uses will be a more than enough improvement. The cost will be balanced.

About them being expensive... maybe the other options are way to cheap, specially Winona's pads

yes, I use it in my hamlet megaworld

the end well spits out 1-3 purple gems for each nmf

this mod works for planning telelocators too

the non-stop maintenance of staves and locator gems makes other alternatives far more appealing

not to mention you probably won't have enough purples in your early-mid game

1 cleaning gives enough purple gems to use them often until you kill fw without rush.

In early, if i base far from the oasis desert, i place a telelocator focus to kill goats without needing to walk so i can acumulate WP and morning stars for FW and toad

And after a few cleanings you get enough purples to use it very often
