Is there any character you haven’t played in DST? If so why?

Judge me all you want but I never saw the appeal of Wanda, I know her strength and how fun it could be to main her long term with all her clocks but she just doesn’t click with me (I don’t even own her). I also never played WX despite loving their design and power, which bear with me, is gonna change when their skill tree comes around (Reason being I never really seen WX as a character that would help much in a group as I play a lot with friends, they seem like a lone wolf kind of character). And lastly Warly and Walter, I tried them once and never touched again (Don’t like Warly’s playstyle much and I find Walter lacking charisma). Skilltrees are completely changing my mind towards this issue however. I can’t wait to see what Klei cooks!

walter, wolfgang, willow and warly.

Walter - seems like too much of a jumbled mess to have fun playing.

Wolfgang - Stat go big isin't a very interesting playstyle to me.

Willow - While her skilltree gave her lots of combat, she lacks utility to be fun.

Warly - Food isint nuanced enough in this game for him to be fun, despite him having a unique downside.

If I can chose between playable characters I always choose based on character design or based on how pleasant I consider their voice , so obviously in DST I still play based on the voices I am most used to which obivously is the characters I have most played singleplayer with (Maxwell voice and Wilson voice). But this also means I would play Wagstaff if he was in DST playable, in that case based on character design.

Everyone else doesn't stimulate my ears enough to play them.

i have played every one, real characters atleast, for i do not achept the monkey as being a character, infact unlike some others he does not even appear in the curio item collection character screen thingy

but of course i rather not play most of them usualy, i know the knick and knacks of some characters more then the other half of how fully they might work then being the basic ones

example: i dont care for wendy, all i realy know is she has ghost that trivializes most things, be it dogs or spiders, the common stuff one encounters while wendy herself does not realy do anything

wx, used to be known for wasting your gears....now he does run around and watches the wild live just so he can actualy get his upgrates (wich by the way feel like the skill tree system in a way)

wolfgang......hes kind of boring, and honestly probably the new "troll" character, unlike willow players all i see from wolfgangs is they rush something, maybe destroy all the pigs....and suddenly the moon storm shows up before winter who knows, maybe they just like using there gym all day long in the base and eat all the food

then we get to characters i do like, examples being:

warly, warly is just cool, like sure food shehanigans eating but like, only he can make people stronger with his spices, wich of course encourages to even start a farm in the first place to get goin, very team play kind of character

wigfrid is more interesting then wolfgang, both are combat characters but wigfrid has just way more goin on for her then wolfgang

wortox, if theres trouple? just teleport you silly, just teleport if the need comes up, it realy does make you feel free, souls as food is...eh, still just goin to use normal food, but the heal is a nice little bonus, but teleporting, and if you base close to a river and start makin trawlers nets and a tin fishin bin you pretty much have made a passive soul farm and storage

Wortox is the only one I haven't played. The reason is that I dislike demons as anything other than enemies (so DOOM is great for me, but I'd not want to play as a demon) and the soul-eating shtick creeps me out.

I've also only played Wes a handful of times because I don't really like being completely gimped all the time with no significant upside or meaningful unique mechanics to offset it.

Wendy.

She just feels so boring... Abigail kills small enemies for you, and apart from Abi does she even have any interesting ability?

Yes, she loses less sanity and deals less damage, but with the abigail damage boost Wendy doesn't even have a real downside, Wendy lacks an "interactive" upside/downside imo, Abigail does everything on her own most of the times. As a downside lover i generally find characters with small or irrilevant downsides not fun to play (Wolfgang i see you...)

Never thought about it that way, Wigfrid has such an annoying voice but it’s so endearing to me (A good friend used to play her a lot and the memory still remains as pleasant) so I like her a bunch. An unusual I guess would be Wurt, I freaking love her gurgling voice for some reason, I find it cute, safe to say they are amongst my favorites.

I guess in terms of a pick for me, I don't think I've ever seriously played Warly before, mainly because of his downside. The way I play the game is pretty much the complete opposite of how you play Warly, and I personally don't really have fun with that. It's not my kind of thing, though I totally see how his downside can be quite fun for a lot of players and I don't think he needs changes in that aspect (I would much rather prefer personal perks he gets than having ways to more easily counter his downsides).

I'm just happy if worst comes to worst that I can just play Warly for a quick moment and make some stews or the like for my duration of playing him, make dishes that I really like, and play someone else I do enjoy. At least then I can listen to his quotes/voice, which I feel have some of the best in the game.

Most voices are not unpleasant to my ears (Wurts one is extremly cute and funny for sounding so bathtub like x3)

But if if I have to name one voice that  I can't hear at all (if I had to play with as MY character) then this is Webber. His voice hurts my ears physically.

I could still hear him being played by someone else though.

Actually I have to add DST Maxwell to the list of character I don't play ANYMORE, because I don't like tiny playable size Maxwell, plus for me my modded coding Maxwell is more fun and fitting to my (self?)sabotaging playstyle more, although he's still in WIP state.

i have not played wanda, wolfgang, winona, or wickerbottom at all: if you are not counting ds i also have not played warly, wendy or wx

it really boils down to me having started maining wes back in 2020 when i new to ds and only branching out to the rest at the request of other people  or getting them when hitting the random char option.

Warly, he's just not fun to play as, sure hes a good support, but who wants to constantly be making different crock-pot recipes?

Winona, mostly because shes entirely reliant on cheese/meta abuse to be good. (Looking at you, instant Moosegoose kill strat!)

Walter, because, well he's Walter. He shouldn't be in this game at all. He needs to be completely redesigned, currently feels like a bootleg Wheeler with a bee allergy and chester (too many unconnected traits and no real purpose.)

Wormwood, because farming is incredibly easy and food isn't really a problem in this game. (so long as you dont lurk at base.)

And probably Wolfgang, because sitting around waiting for him to workout isn't really depth. It's just waiting.

Finally someone I can agree with.

Walter sucks. I really anticipate him when leaks where being released of him. Later upon being released. I noticed that he sucks and really really bad. No way Klei invest time/resources on him to release a sucky tree for such a bad character.

Wendy.

Very overrated character, being weaker to shadow creatures is a massive downside that I really don't like. Having AoE to kill hordes of spiders or mobs is abit redundant because they are so easy to kill anyway, and if you really want AoE just swap to wormwood, craft loads of bramble husk, boom now every character can AOE hordes by tanking.

Now i thought this too when I first played Walter. Now I main him because all of his perks synergise with each other. More inventory frees up you to use body slot armour + pinecone hat to make sanity loss on hit downside manageable, Walter is better at combat with sanity draining bosses. Because you dont need a backpack it also frees you up to use clothing, so now winter/summer with double stacked head and body clothing make all seasons autumn 2.0.

Big woby makes Walter the best for early game exploration, better than woodie/wortox (both characters i also play alot of). Plus useful gathering of marble pieces/lunar altar pieces from the get go. (No backpack allows you to carry them as you find them instead of needing to double back to get backpack)

Walter just speeds up the early game to the point where you can have the entire map explored, found an explored lunar, found ruins, built celestial portal, found all marble chess pieces and are ready to switch to wolfgang by day 12 to steamroll bosses.

Slingshot is his most useless perk tbh. But it's nice to be able to kill tentacles safely and it's a safe but slow way to kill bee queen.

Portable tent heals the health and sanity lost during combat. Also works well with clothing items to reheat during winter without needing a fire source.

- Wes, because he's Wes
- Webber, because he genuinely terrifies me, I find his design disgusting and it makes me physically sick to see this half spider half child abomination
- Winona, because she was boring before, I haven't gotten to trying her skill tree and I'm not sure she would fit me
- Warly, having to search online his recipes constantly would simply suck
- Walter, I like the ideas behind his design but he really needs a skill tree asap

Those I have played just a tiny bit:
- Wanda (cause I suck and get killed too easily as her)
- WX, I just don't like him
