gaymime
so i wanna try and play as other characters but whenever i do my hand always floats to wes or, if i am in a pub outside of autumn/spring maxwell: what i want from you lot is who you personally think i should try playing! there are two caveats so that you better understand my situation; i am not looking to rush and i am not that invested in fighting so wanda, wolfgang, wendy and wigfrid are off the table. they are built for fighting so their unique kit is wasted on me. the second is i have ulnar nerve compaction so i had to hang up my holsters on playing wortox. once i was misclicking him more than actually playing the game i put that notion behind me. him, firestaff and lazy explorer are bffs in the closet now X''D all others are viable options though! just tell me why you personally enjoy the character and what fun/interesting thing that character can do to help me decide who to bring in on my next world. don't worry if your reason is niche or unusual or way too personal, my choice is gonna be vibes-based Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/159414-tell-me-why-i-should-play-x-character/ Share on other sites
DegenerateFurry
I'm gonna recommend my main: Warly. Everyone knows him for volt goat chaud-froid and chili powder, but they sleep on his other stuff. Honey crystals? Use that with glass axes and you can use them better than anyone else, downing a forest in a day, or you can clear a quarry with ease and normal/golden pickaxes. Asparagazpacho? Summer is now just spicy autumn for you (mind the wildfires). Hot dragon chili salad? Say goodbye to caring about temperature. Fish cordon bleu? Take off that eyebrella, you won't be needing it in spring anymore. Glowberry mousse? Far more convenient hands-free light than a lantern or miner's hat. In addition to his perks, his downside encourages - though sadly doesn't obligate - you to learn more crock pot recipes, which is a useful skill to have on any character when you're out exploring. Playing Warly will make you want to remember how to make obscure things like figatoni and barnacle linguini. Also, his portable crock pot is really great for a beefalo-taming playstyle since it means you can make steamed twigs wherever you are and whenever you want. Gashzer
Voted Wurt. You said you don't like combat and hence I think recruiting merms to assist in base building and creating a cool merm kingdom megabase will automatically help you with bosses without you trying. With wurts skill tree, farming crops is so easy with shoddy tools and there isn't any boss that a big army of lunar merm guards with warrior helmets can't kill themselves. Creating a merm kingdom aesthetic for your base is unique and fun even if you don't want to use the merms for boss killing. ToXic Cur3
I voted for wilson I know that some feel that he is underrated or his skill tree isn't really good which is fine but Wilson is very helpful/situational like every character Examples If you have a varg farm for hounds teeth or gems you can convert hounds teeth into bone shards to help warly make one of his dishes which is bone boullion with 2x bone shards one onion and a filler you have a recipe that is very filling in hunger and hp which you can gather easily to bundle/put in a polar Bearger pin if you have it (swap to warly or if someone is warly they can make it then bundle later for storage) Wilson can also save time for the moon callers event he can transmute gems into the iridescent gem which saves time if your low on gems to craft deconstruction staff and a star callers staff if ruins wasn't found yet/occupy with other stuff You have morsels or meat about to turn to rot? No problem wilson can reset the spoilage by converting the meat into morsels and vice versa He has a beard he can store food in it which saves space in inventory, emergency sanity if your low he can shave it for 10 sanity which isn't much but can save you in a pinch He can help with getting gunpowder a bit easily because with transmute ore he can convert gold into nitre plus with gold being easy to get in many ways (trinkets to pig king, giving pig king meat or fish, gold boulders) it's no issue to do Sometimes in early game whether solo or playing in a pub server you dont have flint to make a axe or a pickaxe which can be the difference in surviving a night, you can get 3 rocks that you can find on the ground and convert it into one piece of flint, you can make logs with 3 sticks You can get marble by converting two cut stone into one marble which you can refine into a marble bean to get more marble or help wolfgang get a marble dumbbell, marble armor as extra examples Overall wilson is pretty fun I enjoy playing him when I do because I find myself doing things differently from what I usually do and each character can help each other in some way or form even if it's small can be a huge difference on how stuff turns out in the end which I adore Sorry if this was long to read I had alot to say but couldn't think of a way to sum it up easily Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/159414-tell-me-why-i-should-play-x-character/#findComment-1745076 Share on other sites

Evelo
If you like a character, you just like them. Accept it, nay embrace it. I love Wormwood. But it doesn't hurt to just try out other characters. Warly is my 2nd favorite but currently after the skill set for Winona (I still hate skill sets), I really like Winona because of her Teleportasol. It's pretty fun. Idk how much time you have but generally just play for about an in game year then start a new world with every character. It's the best way to discover what you do and don't like. For instance I tried as Wolfgang and only got to day 15 because I couldn't stand him talking in third person with his quotes. I tried Wurt and like Wurt but I dislike followers so I will avoid playing her over other characters even if there is nothing wrong with her in general. Experimentation! Lovens
May I still recommend Wanda but not for combat abilities? Her transportation kit is amazing. It's so much fun to have the power to teleport anywhere in the world once you set up your teleportation network, and the more you add to it, the better it becomes. You save a lot of time on not walking back to the base after you've done something, and far away places like Lunar island, Pearl, Moon Quay, Ruins are just one click away. On combat abilities: like it or not, combat will come to you in the form of hound waves, depth worms, nightmares and seasonal bosses. When that does happen, Wanda is great at tackling them or escaping them. Heck, she was the character that made me finally be comfortable fighting nightmares that I was so scared of on other characters! Wanda kills them in three hits and it's not a huge deal if you go insane as her, it's even an advantage since she needs that nightmare fuel for your weapon. Do I have to mention how convenient it is to never ever worry about breaking your weapon or needing to craft another one? Just carry alarming clock and some nightmare fuel and you are set forever. On top of that you get: resistance to sanity drain from all shadow gear when she's old so you can get great use of some of the strongest armors in the game, unlimited non-spoiling healing on you at all times in the form of watches, the ability to travel between shards (and carry other people and heavy objects with you as well), the ability to revive other people and yourself with the second chance watch, and the "get out of jail free card" option when you can escape pretty much from any danger by just using your base teleport which you can always carry on you. I feel handicapped any time I play any other character than Wanda because I'm so used to her mobility. Any time you forget to bring something with you it's not such a big deal for her to come back to the base and get it. raniskog
I recommended Willow because I think she's actually really versatile now with her skill tree. I really love being able to basically carry around a permanent nearly-free star staff, and if you have a killer bee field setpiece in your world, it's super super fast to farm massive amounts of embers. I like to rush Bee Queen with lunar flames and a billion embers, and then head into the ruins with bundling wrap. goblinball
Wx78, they’re just so low-maintenance while also having a wide variety of fun perks at your disposal. Whatever bothers you most, you can completely nullify. Don’t like having to carry around light sources with you? Use the night vision or illuminator circuits. Don’t like dealing with temperatures? Wx has circuits for that too. Don’t like moving slow? Oh boy do I have the thing for you. Combined with them being able to eat stale/spoiled food, they really are just a low maintenance character that allows you to take some of the burdens associated with survival off your shoulders so you can focus on stuff you’d rather be doing. Their downsides are basically nonexistent, too. Rain is really easy to deal with, their low max stats can be fixed with circuits if that really bothers you, and your circuits will basically never get removed unless you die. Just a fun character all around that enables you to play the game to your fullest. flamboyant wolf
Winona is really great. Spoiler 1) Spotlights are great to light the spots(heh) most often visited, like the base, or portal station stops(more on teleportation later), as they're very cheap, and with their skills feel very nice to use! Also, with crown shards they can become infinite light, so if you don't like fighting the Toad or having the storms open at all times, like me, then you might find it pretty convenient for long-term worlds. 2) WINbots are pretty handy to have in general, whether it to keep your base clean, or to help with some farms, or to "auto filter" the storage(drop on the ground by the chests and let them figure it out themselves. once you got your chests set up it saves quite a bunch of time). 3) Catapults have a bunch of uses too! Of course there's hound protection, mob farms and help with some bosses, but you can also use them to kill giant tentacles easier, or to get some fish meat quickly, if you have the targeted strike(they're pretty fun to use at sea in general imho), and once you get to lunar rifts, you can use shards and pure brilliance to turn your catapults into great tools too! They're of course good for mass wood/marble farming(combine with WINbots and enlarged chest for best results), but they're also nice for other things, like insta cracking a lot of stone fruit without explosives(you're gonna need a bunch of stone ), mining pure brilliance, exploding some salt remotely etc etc. Pure brilliance also gives pretty nice offense, especially when used with two shards, so I like to carry such gemerator and at least 2 catapults with me in late worlds, both for their utility and offense. 4) Teleportation. a) Teletransport stations. Honestly my favourite way of teleportation in the game at the moment ngl. I am biased, but still. it's very nice and handy, even without bothering with teleportation networks. I'd recommend having the nightmare fuel perk, cause it's generally useful, but also cause it makes using teletransport stations early-on much easier, later on you can use gemerators and even later, if you want you can use crown shards for no maintenance. Also being able to move multiple heavy items at a time is great. Alternatively, you could go for b) shadow seeker 2 early game(or just in general), and make use of wormholes and big tentacles(remember, catapults can help you defeat them! they can be pretty good based on world gen). 5) General Convenience. Not the biggest part of what draws me to Winona, but fast crafting and tape can be nice. Although, I know some people who find Winona's downside too annoying, so guess it might double as general inconvenience. 6) Theme. I just love engineers and tech ngl. Hell, I'm studying to be one, technically. #machines rule. So yeah, personally, I like Winona because she just has a bunch of cool engineer perks my friends and I can benefit from, which I can decide to use just as much as I need, and because most of the perks in question are a great fit for me specifically. BUT! Hopefully you'll find Winona just as fun Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/159414-tell-me-why-i-should-play-x-character/#findComment-1751365 Share on other sites
SOS-Ouroboros-K
A four-season pairing: Spring: Wormwood, bees will not attack you, nor will the damp of rain... Basically. Summer: Willow, harder to overheat and can absorb excess flame. Autumn: Maxwell, it's the day to cut down trees. Winter: Wilson, Beard, and Torch skills can make winter more comfortable, converting Meat into Morsel will give you higher utilization, and let's take stock of the year's supplies and make some Green gems.
