Did fossils change recently?

Recommended Posts

Took a bit of a break from the game, and when I came back, my friends and I noticed that we can't place fossils directly next to each other anymore.  I looked at the most recent update notes and didn't see any mention, and I don't think the Fandom wiki page has been updated in some time either (I know it's unofficial, but it usually has pretty reliable information).  Did I miss something somewhere, or am I experiencing a bug?

Placement of structures was changed. Fossils were impacted.

The placement size that fossils take up was made bigger as well as some other structures were made smaller and wiki.gg is more updated

It was a change made to remove some unintentional farms/exploits players were creating without also needing to add brand new animations into the game (like the bones being broken if stepped on by giants) some people aren’t too happy about it, but in my opinion if something gets changed, it’s likely because the devs want you doing things in a very specific way or at least not in the way you were doing them.

Other changes you may not have noticed is that Lureplants and Spider Dens can’t be used to block giants anymore, they will now trample and destroy them.

The situation is clearly not this like it or not because if they wanted to make farms not work they would have removed the collision of statues and furnitures because those can still be used

Or Klei are tactically waiting for the perfect sneaky moments to slowly remove long standing exploits without causing mass outrage that aligns with whatever they are currently updating.

I would think if they wanted to do that they wouldn't have given furniture hitboxes also outrage always comes no matter how "sneaky" something might seem

The fandom wiki is months out of date and full of inaccurate info and sometimes even unfixed vandalism. Make sure to use the Wiki.gg when possible! It's the one that's being actively maintained.

They wouldn't have needed to add animations like this at all since almost nothing in the game has specific animations for this.
They'd just vanish and spawn the destruction puff prefab, which they already do.

all of the old farms that used fossils can be replicated by using statues instead.
the only thing this changed is making said farms a bit more annoying to make, and also made it so every farm is going to look exactly the same no matter what.

overall it was a pretty bad change since it didnt improve the quality of the game in any capacity

Weren't the changes made because people were complaining about crock pots, etc. and the placement of fences/walls?

Many items and structures can't be deployed as close as they used to be

This mostly applies to cases when stuff with smaller spacing coexists with stuff with bigger spacing. For example, it used to be possible to fill gaps between large (2.0 spacing) plants such as stone fruit bushes, bananas, berry bushes with small (1.0 spacing) plants such as twigs, grass, spiky bushes and monkeytails. This is not the case anymore.

Chests despite their small spacing can't be built close to most stuff anymore.

Worst case at the moment for me is apparent inability to build ice and salt boxes between crock pots which is very critical. Previously it was possible to build 4 crock pots in a square and place 5 iceboxes in a cross shape between them, reaching all crock pots from any of iceboxes. This setup is completely impossible right now, and it's even impossible to build a single icebox between two crock pots if these weren't placed at least 4 units away from each other.

I believe this wasn't an intended change since the idea of changing how spacing works was to loose up building restrictions, not to tighten them.

What's excluded from the bug report are fossils. I tried making a post to address this, but it got no traction because it was a post made by me.

I don't care if I'm not spearheading for change. It can be someone else, but it's something I'd like reverted along with other things that got affected by the placement
