I think a lot of the people on the forums do love the game but they just don't like what Klei has been doing recently. More power to them but I've been having more fun with DST then I have for a long time. The Skill trees feel like a good mechanic as they've actually made me consider playing other characters other then Maxwell, not out of a power fantasy but because the other characters never really had mechanics that made me want to keep playing with them and the skill trees helped solve that, for me at least. It also helped me feel like I was going towards an actual goal again. After doing everything a few times, it gets kind of boring going through the same charades over and over again and the insight points allow me to feel like I'm actually working towards something and skill trees helped build variety between worlds. Even if they're not perfect, I adore them for what they bring to my personal experience.

Dude I freaking love the style of this game. They made something truly incredible with the cartoonish/vintage mickey-mouse style of characters. It's a thing of it's own, there's nothing like it in the market.

I personally love the animation of smashing boulder with a pick or using the hammer where the character flies into the air.

I love the macabre feel of nightmares and how the game sorta smashes your face in a silly way. I loved the new skins too, cottage is my favorite style. What I fell in love with dst is how different it was from everything I ever saw, it is AUTHENTIC, and it definitely fits my style.

I enjoy simply looking at these half-way done arts that fit so perfectly into the game, like the snow is just white lines bended together, or how some arts have strong black edges or sketches that have been erased poorly kinda thing, but in a good way.

I think the reason the forums is looked at as very "toxic" is because people have a lot of complains and sorta frutrating things to say about the game more than positive ones, sure we do love some positivity, but sometimes it's just not talked as much as the "negative" ones. So in the end there's no fix to this except to understand how it works, and that most of the time we're not hating on the game, but rather giving our own opinion to make IT better.

Although I don't like every detail and although I prefer the gameplay and tone of DS + DLCs over the DST game, I still LOVE DST and wouldn't want to miss it anymore. Also I love DST more for another point: It seems easier to figure out how to create simple mods for DST as it seems easier to find modding recourses for it compared to DS.

Plus DS/T has my favourite artstyle and music / voiceactor "voices" style of all video games I've ever played. I also adore how Klei paid attention to real life [especially historical] details when it comes to some of the gameplay and especially when it comes to the background stories [animations and the artwork for "lore" puzzles] of the characters.

All in all I am addicted to the more gloomy depressing part of the lore. At the same time I adore the humour, although the puns make it hard for me to understand.

And here once again: I love the ability for modding that is given to the users adds so much hillarious silly non-serious cosmetic stuff or serious expansions to the gameplay.

For a person like me who can't laugh at most "memes" because I lack the background for them, Don't starve (together) has a surprisingly high potential for Maxwell Memes that I actually find myself be able to enjoy.

In other words: How could DS not be my favourite game fandom and DST not be a great addition to have to the single player DS games?

Now if only Klei created a tool that made it easy for clueless people like me who use DST mostly for the mods recourses being easier accessible, to be able to port your DST mods to be used [with limitations due to the different content of course] in the single player games. Such as: If the tool would point out everything that had to be removed / changed from the DST mod to be compatible with the DS / ROG/ SW / HM versions plus a manual that explains the different wording used in DST mods vs DS mods. [as it doesn't always seem to be the same].

Conclusion I give DST a 8/10 and DS a 10/10 on my fandom + gameplay love scale.

Everyone sounding like they hate the game, I gotta check :wilson_wink:

If we hate it we wont be here trying to give feedback to prevent hating it eventually if the direction goes into a really bad way or by keeping bugs, bad designs, unbalance, etc

Wait, what did triple H ever do to You?!

Jokes aside, it’s not that I “hate the game” it’s more so that I hate how Klei handles updates FOR the game.

To put this into the shortest TL:DR I can come up with they’re simply not doing it right! And I’ll provide a short explanation.

Klei devs seem to have I guess “Forgotten” some of the content their game offers to the player, and with each new update it’s like they’re designing it with only one default playstyle in mind.

But this is in fact Terrible for the games health.

Endless mode was a mode where resources that would otherwise be rare and valuable could always regrow or respawn faster.

Survival Mode was a mode where some resources were intentionally made to have slow regrowth or never Regrow at all.

So obviously you can see why would get upset when they make core gameplay changes so resources that use to not grow in a certain mode, now grow in that mode.

They seem to be putting DST together one update at a time without any sort of cohesion with previous content.

Lights Out mode is another really great example, someone should probably tweak this so that Lightbulb bugs do not spawn for this mode, the Midsummers Cawnival lights can’t be built, and characters with Crazy OP features (like WX with infinity night vision Winona’s Immunity to Darkness or Willows 2 day Fireball cast) should probably either not work at all, or have a unique way of working exclusive to this mode (maybe lasting shorter time or having Charlie target it to disable it)

This is a very clear cut example of why Klei isn’t designing DST right anymore.

So no I do not “hate the game” I hate that developers aren’t being creative enough to love and support their game as much as they SHOULD be doing.

Dude who voted "I hate the game" :ghost:.
there's an imposter..

That was Wagstaff I'm certain about it! See he used to be a playable character, but he decided to become an not PLAY[=game]character character so he must hate the GAME aspect of the game

I love the game.

I have loved the game for years.

I will continue to love the game.

I love it so dearly, I nearly consider it to be an extension of myself.

I feel so strongly, that I consider my love for Don't Starve and Klei a part of my identity.

I would consider it genuinely difficult for most people to love the game to the same degree that I do.
Nobody has to, though, for me to consider them just as valid as I consider myself.
Not that it's a competition. Don't take it that way; this is a difficult idea to express.

This is a response not just to this thread, but to the dozens of threads like this that I have seen. Forgive it's more general and aimless nature. In this, when I refer to "you", I mean the general "you", not any user specifically.

I hate the direction it is taking. Greatly.
For several reasons.
Most of which I have long since lost the patience to articulate, knowing my voice will be, at worst, shunned, and at best, completely ignored.

This, by no means, is saying I hate the game, nor even dislike it.

It is a dangerous idea to confuse these concepts.

It is downright poisonous to believe it.

It is impossible to say that those who still have the patience and willpower left to criticize what they do not like, despite, in some cases, the years of neglect, constant community dogpiling, or worse, hate the game.
No matter what they even say to themselves.
There is no way they could remain here without loving the game in their own unique way.
Not to say anything of those whose wills had finally gotten whittled down to a point where they felt they were taken so far for granted that they couldn't stand to exist in the community any longer.
Not for hate, but for heartbreak and frustration.
Or those who never even spoke in the first place, who silently watched what they loved either take a back seat, get forgotten, or even destroyed.
There are people out there like this. There are many communities outside of the forums. I've seen them, I've been in them. Even just smaller talks with random players, this sentiment is not alien. It is very real. They exist.
And it is impossible to truly call that, any of that, hate.
Not unless your only definition of it is the surface level, trying to subconsciously write them off, label them as an intermittent, loud group of pessimistic whiners, and say that they are nothing more than hollow haters with no point, no skin in the game, no care for the game or what they say.

I am just as entitled to my opinion on the game as anyone else is.
I just love it in a different way than others do. As I am allowed to. As anyone is allowed to.
There shouldn't be a thread trying to dismiss people as haters who shouldn't be listened to. That those who "love" the game clearly outnumber those who "hate" it, so they should just go kick rocks and shut up. That their opinion doesn't matter because the power of your specific type of love prevails.

Threads like these just make me more sad than anything else.

Again, this isn't just a response to this thread or user, but it's a general response to all threads and people with this kind of mindset. I mean none of this personally, just generally.
Please try to consider this, as I consider you.

Although on an actual personal note, OP, your poll doesn't allow for any real nuance.
I'd add an extra option as simple as "I love it, but..." for the future. It keeps the door open.
