[Thread] On Flavor Changes and Small Details

Recommended Posts

I'm making this thread for all the small details people wanna see in DST, especially after they added the Mermlio and Piglet skeletons (edit: i should also mention the ice Brawl trip mechanic lmao).

I'll start:

  • Antlion's death should halt the sandstorm.
    • This is because that when it rains in summer, Antlion hides and the sandstorm stops.
    • Wildfires would occur in Oasis as a result, but this is mitigated by keeping Antlion alive and offering it tributes.
  • Wanda should get squashed if she reverts to old form while carrying something heavy.
  • Resurrecting Abigail (after she dies, or for the first time you summon her in game) should require the blood sacrifice pre rework Abigail used to need. (Resummoning and desummoning still work the same, however.)
  • Bees should be able to tend flowering farm crops (stages 3-4, or just stage 4).
    • This of course bears the risk of killer bees swarming farms in Spring (the season most profitable for farming) but on any other season I feel this is a nice flavor change.

-Wilson gets more sanity from prototyping as he likes learning new things

-Willow should be able to use the Fire Staff as a replacement lighter for spells if she has them. I could see it having the ember cost be negated but it costs the staves durability. Just something to allow her to use the fire specific magic tool

-Using Boss drop gear or equipment crafted from boss drops prolongs might drain as Wolfgang feels powerful for killing the foe and contorting its body for his own gang

-Beefalo get the standard 10% damage boost from Abigail as it's not Wendy hitting the enemy, it's the beefalo

-WX should be able to eat scrap for simular to gears stats

This is like saying "For fun, I pour hot wax from candles on myself and I think you should too"

No. I do not want to pour hot wax on myself. Do not push this lifestyle on me, sir.

This one would be annoying.

Cool.

If you feed Mosling, it will be satisfied and will stop stealing food for a while, and Moose/Goose will allow the player to be nearby for a while. It would be nice to have some kind of small incentive.

Personally, I think Mosling are kinda cute, so because they're in the way, it makes me sad every time to kill their mothers and to kill them in vengeance to mother killer. and also I want more people to see the emotional scene where Moslings fly away from the nest.

It would be nice to see the moon quay monkeys worship the moon when its crescent shaped.

It would be a interesting if the monkey's wouldn't attack a boat with a celestial orb out of respect for the moon.

I feel like he would be just as scared I feel like it would make more sense for him to gain 50 sanity when he kills a boss as you relieve him of his source of fear.

But a waxed chirsg would be a perfect base decoration...

I like this idea but they will need to address the potential for off screen fires and then I think this will be perfectly fine after all wild fires really aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

And the Moonbird will attract or keep away Brightshade Gestalt. So you won't have to search far and wide for Deadly Brightshade and it will be somewhat safer to make plant farms above ground.

-Maxwell's untriumphant skin has different examine quotes for the codex Umbra and Charlie related things as it's from a point of time where he was still with her

-The Codex Umbra would have guaranteed chance for pure horror when closely examined by the Rose Tinted glasses as it wad the thing to bring Charlie to her doom

-Regardless of Alignment Choice, Maxwell naturally had the shadow affinity side benefits like showing the Shadow Rift bosses' true names and talking to the shadow reaper

-Wurt can "read" the Codex Umbra and gain a nightmare amulet like effect for 4 minutes

-Wanda gains a progressively harsh sanity drain if she has no Ageless Watches in her inventory

-Wurt eats watermelon messily, allowing her to gain wetness from it

-Warly's chef pouch has the freshness timer reduction as polar bearger bin but only for raw ingredients, seeds, and hambats

-Wormwood can be helped bloom by a friendly fruit fly, increasing bloom duration/time to full bloom for 2 minutes once per day

Using the spork on potatos creates potato cups. The more potato cups, the better!

- Geometric placement(or something akin to) and stats should be optional feature in settings so players without mods can finally access those features.

- While it's definitely coming up, it would be amazing if there were more ways to stop brightshades from spawning. I have like 2 stacks of brightshades husks but less than 20 pure brilliance. There's an inequality in the demand for both resources that are intertwined. More features to limit brightshades could help but also making items use more brightshade husks or giving us more uses for them. Or maybe more pure brilliance sources.

- Give us a reason to be upstairs during summer. If the way 90% of players spend a season is to go to the one place they can avoid 99% of it completely then there's a problem. Unlike other seasons besides autumn, most of summer is a net negative. There needs to be a close to even amount of pros and cons for each season so the player changes their playstyle in an interesting and fun way.

Sailing! It is the perfect time to sail around. Just bring a full watering can before you head out (or don't and take the smoldering damage). Highly recommend it.

i suppose i didn't state my intentions clear enough and that's my bad. you can sail in summer, but there's no more reason to do it than in any other season. i suppose a good example would be you farm more in spring since there's rain. i'm saying the game should encourage certain playstyles and actions but limit others. that's how seasons create fun and unique play styles.

but of course i'd be down to sail if i don't get sunburnt

Klei has already invented a solution where "Trawl Net loot quality is at its best during summer" at Shipwrecked. I hope they implement the Shipwrecked Trawl Net into DST. That was really fun.

Agreed, we definitely need some additional boon, whether ingame or psychologically, to what people consider the harshest season.

SW Dry Season in my opinion executed that well imo by making Coffee bushes productive (though you can sacrifice mats for ashes to get them year round its nice not having to tend to them for a change). Lush Season sort of hits a similar spot, what with the abundance of food in Blooming Tubers (if you haven't lerned how to manipulate the pig economy yet anyhow).

The biggest possible benefit that's similar to those two is cacti blooming. But while Flower Salad is really slept on as a food item, the whole reason it's so slept on is that it and the cactus flowers used to make it spoil rapidly, especially with summer's heat. funnily enough, despite farming more than enough fillers for them as Warly, their benefit is balanced by the fact that i'm restricted to eating five of them at a time LMAO

Also, technically, at least for a farmer like me, it's similarly rewarding that i get to farm both Dragonfruit and Pepper in the same season - but that's for farmers, of which I can understand why people won't want to farm (sizeable time sink performing monotonous chores for moderate reward) as opposed to clearing ruins (intensive, stressful yet very rewarding).

Perhaps another difference is between Antlion and Volcano - while Antlion's environmental attacks are ignorable at worst or redirectable at best simply by remaining mobile, the Volcano's risk of immediately killing a player with a stray boulder forcing them to at the very least pay attention to where they step for a great chunk of a day is a little more wacky to deal with, whether you want to appease the Altar or dodge the boulders like I usually do. Shipwrecked is unique in the sense that it doesn't have caves and at least Antlion can attack both aboveground and belowground.

Perhaps ultimately there won't be much changes to vanilla seasonal content. Perhaps having unwithered plants and crops producing their yields faster due to the intense sunlight?

As for sailing logically the route i imagine is summer heat causing red tide (as it does over here) but that would be needless punishment.

Bees should be able to pollinate and create honey off of a blooming wormwood. Bees will follow you and do the little sitting pollination animation if you’re wormwood, but it’s purely a visual thing and doesn’t actually count. I so badly wish it did count as pollination. It’d be such a small inconsequential thing 99% of players wouldn’t notice but idc id love it
