Winona's Toolbox!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I love the upcoming changes for Winona, and I wanted to bring attention to something that I actually fell in love in uncompromising mode, where Winona became one of my favorite characters because of one thing: Her toolbox!

Basically, it's a box in your inventory that can store disassembled parts and workable tools plus tape!

It complements her kit a LOT! Especially now that machines are disassembleable.

Heck, even if the toolbox doesn't actually hold generators and structures, but actual tools and parts, it would still help. Let me put my axe, pickaxe, hammer, tape, doodads, scrap and such in the toolbox so I can save room in my inventory for the structures

I'm with you there chief. UM's rework of Winona is genuinly fantastic. Hell, it's 90% of the reason I'm invested in Winona's skill tree at all. And yeah, the Toolbox is a big part of that.

The ability to hold dissassembled structures is pretty nice. But I find it much more useful for holding tools. Not only does it synergize well win WUMnona's (I'm sorry that was terrible) increased work efficiency, it's just really nice to have everything you might need on-hand while only taking up a single inventory slot.

Even more than that though, Winona's toolbox is also able to hold items that can fuel her generators. Now, as you may now, one of Winona's generators works by running on Gems. And there just so happens to be a particular area where gems are in high supply. Yeah, Winona is one of the best ruins rushers in UM thanks to her tool box. It completely trivializes the inventory management that usually plagues the area.

A lot of her kit in UM synergizes well with ruins rushing in general. She can convert lanterns and miner's hats into electric versions of them, recharge all electric items at her generators. And even overcharge them to give boosted effects. I usually try to get a Morning Star when ruins rushing. As not only is the light source/weapon combo convenient, but overcharging it also give it a small stun effect and makes it deal extra damage against mechanical enemies, ergo Clockworks.

Moral of the story: Please play UM's version of Winona, it's so damn good.

I want the signature red tool box just because she’s been seen with it in like what.. 2 or 3 different animated shorts now?

I don’t really care what it can do gameplay wise, heck it could be a Refrigerator like item that exclusively holds and significantly preserves the freshness on Froggle burnwhich sub sandwiches for all I care, I just wanna see Nona Bust out the tool box and have cute animations of pulling stuff from it.

Not everything from uncompromising mode fits for Winona's skill tree, but the toolbox is one of those amazing things that once you play with it once you can't go back.

This is an incredible idea, I wonder if Klei considered it but didn't add it precisely because it was in a big mod? I don't know if Klei is mindful of it, and I know they probably technically have the right to do it anyway, but sometimes content creators have to change their plans drastically due to fan projects or people thinking of ideas.

In the anime sector there has been companies in the past who request fans not to email them with their ideas and theories, because it could lead to drama about "stolen ideas" and "uncompensated use of an idea" if they ended up ever using one of them. It's not a legal battle they'd ever likely lose of course, but it's still something some companies are mindful of especially when they have big modding communities.

Nah. Mod content is fair game. They made the game after all.

It's an honor as a modder to have stuff from your mod be in the main game.

The whole point of modding is to see something cool in the game you love.

Winona has so many related items (stats below) that she needs the box too much.

Actually, nitre and gems are storable inside the toolbox in uncomp

Probably implemented as a check "Can be placed inside generator"

This would be very epic, especially for moving large catapult setups around

Having one set of catapults for all bosses is already a great buff.

Having a way to pack it up on the go is just quality of life at this point.

I think if it gets added it should be more like Wilson’s Beard food storage (4-6 slots only) I defiantly don’t think she needs much more than that.

I do kinda feel like if it's gonna be a "bag" it should be her unique starter item, instead of craftable, otherwise, I can imagine 3 or 4+ bags containing tons of capults...

Even a 3 slot toolbox would be huge.

Uncompromising mode does go overboard with 12 slots...

6 slots seems like a nice sweet spot. It is still +5 tool slots on your bar!

The size of toolbox matters less, 3,6,9,12... as you can just have more toolboxes.

Extra space trade is still extra space. We all know from gift and bundle wraps how strong that mechanic is.

Not necessarily..

Wilson can’t have extra beard storage, Walter can’t add more slots to Woby, Maxwell can’t have more than one shadow dimensional storage.

I highly highly doubt Klei would let Winona carry around an inventory of toolboxes.

Also most characters perks have always been fast and easy access to items you can unlock naturally later, so giving Nona a toolbox that acts as an early game bundling wrap sounds balanced to me.

Idk if you noticed those aren't in inventory storage like the tackle box but backpack like storage and you can have a lot of tackle boxes in your pockets.

UM definitely gets a lot right with their ideas. Some of them eh, but the tool box is genuine peak.

We are in HEAVY disagreement, something labeled as “Uncompromising” probably should not give the players a ton of additional storage slots?

Even State of Decay 2 or Resident Evil games showcase this- you pick a harder difficulty- And you’ll only be finding less guns and ammo, back packs will be smaller and carry less OR you’ll run out of stamina quicker attempting to carry more stuff.

I have this really bad bad BAD feeling that overpowered Mods have become far more popular than those classic games with limited ammo and resources.

We disagree on 90% of topics in general. It would still be peak.

Your random references have no relevance to what i was saying anyways.

Uncompromising does not = more storage slots. In no game I have EVER played did a harder difficulty choice = more storage slots.

This draws me to one very clear and completely unmissable conclusion-

The developers of the Uncomp Mod (whoever they are or were…) are or were being Biased.

You can’t just go “there’s tornadoes now! But those wont damage any of your structures..” or “You can carry large inventories worth of stuff in portable toolboxes YaY!”

Its either Uncompromising, or it’s not.
