It’s surprising to me that Klei is pursuing Mosquitos as a thing for Wurt’s skill tree when Frogs are RIGHT THERE

Allies on what? Are frogs that intelligent? Is there any kind of war between the amphibian kingdom and, idk, the birds one?? Many amphibians eat amphibians,  birds atack each other and mammals hunt other mammals or fight for territory. There are no allies in nature because there are no sides

All this "frog dont atack wurt cuz big frog" was just a forum suggestion added by klei because people complained about wurt being weak so they added 5736151 perks

I mean if the constant worked on that logic I feel like Webber would have a much worse time as there's not really a good reason for the spider variants to ally themselves with him heck even normal spiders would probably see him as a mutant to be killed. It's very likely frogs just see merms as big frogs.

On a side note that wasn't the only reason people felt it didn't make sense for the hostility between merms and frogs considering Wurt's quotes seems to imply they aren't on bad terms it simply made more sense to make the gameplay reflect that just like how it made sense to remove Wurt implying she could see in the dark when it went against game mechanics.

There is no mosquito repelent in your country? There are many to make them not notice you (they are attracted by pheromones), she just developed one because is smart and because is smart she uses what is arround her. Isnt my favourite item neither perk but makes sense that a sentinel creature using what is her habitat like how we used leeches to cure, dogs for war or horses to travel

Also is a kid so is kinda funny and goofy to catch a bunch of disturbing bugs to throw them to enemies

Way more sense that frogs being a follower because "amphibian bros allies supremacy"

Just because people developed mosquito repellent doesn't mean her suddenly making it would be the most obvious thing in the world. Also it's not really that Wurt is smart the game kind of goes out of it's way to show that she isn't it's more so that the survivors are teaching her mainly Wickerbottom and she's open minded due to a combination of factors brought up in her lore. Being the youngest with no kids to relate to, experiencing the wonder of reading and candy, and finally her desire to better her people(which was likely sparked from the first book she read when meeting the survivors.

DS lore and some creatures are based on the cthulhu mythos. All the Ancients lore or the fact that we have a sanity meter that allow us to see strange things. Also some items like wickers books (that make you go crazy)

Also keep in mind that like most media inspirations even if it borrows from popular media it doesn't automatically mean it will play out exactly the same or have a 1 to 1 interpretation. Adding on to that older works of fiction have played with the idea of insanity and forbidden items before as well so dst could borrow from multiple sources not just a singular one.

??? Why? She lives there, she is atacked by mosquitoes so she finds a solution.  I dont see the problem

also makes sense gameplay wise if some wurt players and company base in the swamp

Again, im not against frogs being neutral but developing thwt futher is something i dislike. I prefer something original and fitting like the mosquito craft

I'm surprised everyone forget these:

I mean they're not technically frogs (they're fish) but they're pretty similar in the way they hop around and attack. These could be re-introduced for Wurt. I just can't remember if they attacked merms or not.

That is a mudfish... and only appear in other game as tentacle substitute for sw's swamp

Sorry I edit my comment just a little late.

Their animations are basically straight from frogs. The fact they're fish fits even better thematically. They just gotta remove the tentacle behavior and they can have them spawn from swamps ponds.

I guess what I mean they make the perfect frog replacement for the swamp.

In general i feel like wurt already has merms, instead of utilizing already existing mobs, having completely new types of merms would be a breath of fresh air.

But if this HAD to be added to the game, i have an idea.

The shepherd merm!

Shepherd merms are able to lead hordes of up to 3 frogs, which regenerate from their hut. Said frogs can be summoned into combat by them. Shepherd merm frogs are also able to collect resources (A twist on their whole "Knocking items out of inventory" thing.)

In general, all followers are very similar, they should have more functions than tickle wood and bite enemies.

I really don't want basic stuff like frogs being dropped by traps (seriously, they're the only mob to not do so) or a use for mosquitos or their drops to be part of Wurt's tree. Just make them universally available features. I would unironically prefer Wurt get stat boosts than keep features like these exclusive, and I am a diehard Wurt main with ~800 hours on her.

I'd be 100% on board with stuff like creating ponds since that's at least more in-line with her civilisation theme and lets her farm more effectively without it being as uncreative and explicit as a fertiliser + it would help her get fish for farming spots and merm king drops. Sure - other characters might appreciate being able to create ponds, but unlike with mosquito drops being quite meh, the current system for water works perfectly fine and justifies the Waterfowl can.

where are people seeing these supposed wurt, winona, etc skill trees?

They were said on the most recent stream, that they are getting skill trees.

Frog Wrangler - Wurt can pick up and hold Frogs in her inventory.

Frog Wrangler 2 - Frogs can be dropped near Swamp Ponds to have them inhabit it, once 3 Frogs are deposited it becomes a spawn point for Frogs.

That's fun

New Winona and Wurt synergy, Merms can be loaded onto catapults and fire at targets.

It’s a joke, but unironically could be a terrific addition to the game. Should also include Webber and his spiders.
