Old Sunken Chest open only after update.

I wonder if I already collect Sunken Chests in my world and only open them after the new update, will they have the new seeds added to them or will it only be valid for the new chests?

Only for new chests. I guess.

In essence, it is no different from a normal chest except that it cannot be opened by the player. The things out of it when you destroy it are the items in its inventory, which were already determined when it was spawned.

Yeah a sunken chest's contents are determined as soon as you read a bottle and one spawns into existence. I've caused myself to drown before when using c_gonext to try and find stray purple gems around my world, only to be teleported directly on top of a sunken chest and dunked into the water instantly.

Strange if true, considering that wrapped packages from fishing in the oasis can change their content if you turn on Winter's Feast after stocking them up.

try using the wiki.gg version of the dont starve wiki. the fandom one is rigged to take priority in google search, but you can see the wiki.gg one by merely adding "gg" to the end of your google search. the wiki.gg one is the one we all edit and keep up to date.

The reason it works like that is the sunken chest is technically a locked container, just impossible to access without smashing it, and the crumpled package is moreso like a tumbleweed that generates look when opened (sidenote, this is why if you burn a crumpled package, you will always get ash 100% of the time).

However, keep in mind nothing is stopping you from keeping the messages in bottles themselves, meaning you can stockpile those and hoard up a bunch of potential chests in preparation for the update as the chest contents are only generated when the bottle is read. Saving a bunch of bootlegs will allow you to reach the future chests faster, as well. That’s the strat I am currently using in my world to hopefully snag a bunch of the ancient trees when the beta drops.
