A Request to my Dearest Klei

Recommended Posts

Wormholes in most worlds feel very underwhelming, and unfortunately way too RNG to ever really use unless you get lucky, but I've never had the luxury of good or decent Wormhole Generation!

So, my idea is in the Archive Crockpot we should be able to cook up a Wormy Concoction with Phlegm, Glommer's Flower, Glommer's Wings, and a Chilled Lavae to feed to the Wormholes to make them unborrow themselves into a lil tiny but happy worm buddy, and his Toy that can be placed in the 2 location of our choosing.

This also makes use of 3 of these normally unusable items, and makes for quite the task for Wormhole Transportation.

Thank you for listening.

I agree aside of the chilled lavae, make that last part an ocean item that's hard to get but isn't tied to a boss and I'm 100% on board.

I don't exactly know why klei hasn't changed wormholes to be moveable until now, but I guess they have a good reason for it.

A better way of fixing wormholes would be to simply change some code lines in world gen so that there's a minimum fixed distance between 2 linked wormholes. Sometimes they are so close together it feels like a scam even.

But if I'm 100% honest, I don't think we need better fast travel in dst right now, It's not that big of a deal. We have walking cane, magi, movement speed character specific perks, wanda teleporters, telelocator staff, lazy deserter, lazy explorer etc..

For me, moving wormholes would be only a slightly unecessary qol.

The problem is that the only reliable speedbost is the walking cane/lazy explorer. Most people prefer using a backpack, so magis aren't good for travelling far. Character specific perks are, well, character specific, just like Wanda's (and Wortox) teleports. Telelocator staffs and roads are expensive and lazy deserters require a second player.

So based on what you said we should move one of the few unmoveable things in the game because current travel options are all inefficient and no one uses it anyways.

Yes? I agree with the post. Just because it's currently unmoveable doesn't mean it shouldn't / can't be changed. There's plenty of unmoveable points of interests in your world anyway, and only 4 pairs of wormholes.
Also, I didn't say no one uses them, wormholes can be useful if they're well positioned. As for the other speed boosts, yes they are used, but they aren't as reliable as a walking cane, and walking through the map with just a cane gets tedious with time, specially in longer running worlds.

And while we're at it, it'd be great if we could get better fast travelling methods on the caves, specially since you can't use telelocator staffs there. And since tentapillars are exactly the same as wormholes but with a short fight each time you want to use them. Most people just resort to void hopping.

I agree we need ways to cut travel from lategame.

especially so easily.

I agree that the suggestion has some flaws but, depending on the recipe cost it wouldn't be that cheap. Specially considering you'd need two per pair (one for each end), and that crockpot foods don't take green amulets into account. I think the lavae egg is a little bit too much though, specially since it's a chance drop.

What I was thinking was maybe make it a one time use. Make the wormhole chase you for more food and eventually it'd stop somewhere. If they wanted to make it even harder to achieve perhaps make it so that you have to kill the wormhole to make it burrow back into the ground.

Hello, i don't know how to directly comment on others posts.

I actually only put Lavae there because I thought of it as the meat of the food, lol. It really stood out to me as well.

Honestly it'd just be nice to make use of some crappy spawns, and actually give us a way of making them usable.

There's even skins for them, but I don't get to use them unless I wanna skin the distant Wormhole that leads to the same biome across the map, lol.

As for cost of it I feel it could definitely depend highly on limitations of the Wormhole which I've only ever seen them on mainland so that really only leaves like 5 destinations you'd really wanna go frequently, and I've only ever seen.. 4? Wormholes in a world so not really able to cover majoring on the mainland.

Dragonfly, Bee Queen, Pig King being the majority of the case, but minor ones like going as close as possible to the Lunar Island, Mactusk(s), distant biomes, farms, etc, but let's say there's no limitations on the surface, or even to the underground I'd definitely expect a more expensive cost, or let's say a boss drop to be the way of acquiring.

I like the idea of luring them around sounds a lot more fun and interactive then just feeding them and placing.

Often for any travels I choose to have a rider beefalo tamed early with rushed glossamer saddle. It's a lot more convenient than you think - get enough shrooms and veggies to get enough feed with pots, gather materials for a quick stop to ruins for a green amulet and a couple other items and boom - no walking cane needed to travel anywhere.

While sure wormholes moved might be handy, I'd keep them as is only as it's an old legacy thing that existed for this long as a thing that just exists as possibly convenient way of travel. What I personally would suggest is an upgrade on telelocator focus for custom-made wormholes of sorts in a cost of magic and moon lenses.
