Ethereal Ember procurement. Which is your favorite method?

Which is your preferred way of gathering Ethereal Embers? Have you found any efficient way?

There is a farm setup demonstrated by Anonymous Almighty using Magma pools and Spiders on Youtube although I don't fancy such overly elaborate and complicated farms. I did experiment with Spider Dens and Magma pools on my own before I stumbled across said video but couldn't make it work since Spiders run around too much before succumbing and eventually the Spider Den burned despite using Scaled Flooring (plus Spiders are tedious to control in general). Maybe it could be adjusted to work but it still felt rather off.

If I want to get as many Ethereal Embers as possible I head to the Bat Cave biome wearing an Enlightened Crown and Brightshade Armor and simply attack every bat that approaches. Sometimes they even sleep and stay stationary which makes for easy embers. They also tend to swarm / come to you, die in a few hits or by the fire DPS, get stunlocked, drop healing food, and the fire they provide when burning is enough to stay at maximum sanity when wearing the Enlightened Crown. This method is rather fun and efficient since bats die fast and are abundant in some places.

Treeguards yield many embers but they are not as abundant and take a while to defeat without assistance.

couple of combustions in spider biome quickly give you full stack. Bonus if spider queen is there since she can't fight back being on fire

she can still cast her other spells on top of beefalo tho just not her affinity ones

iirc she can still cast the shadow flame, just not the lunar one.

I didn't like spiders.  They wander around pretty far, they don't spawn out very quick, if you attack one to gather them with aggro you might get warrior spiders which doesn't help either.  I found killer bee biome was the best bet.  Of course that depends on worldgen, but you can easily get a few stacks without issue that way.  Without that I'd do 5+ bee hives and light them on fire to get all the bees out first, then attack one to draw aggro and combust them.  If you're late game a varg farm works unless you're in summer.  Combust then lunar flame and collect.

She can. Both Shadow Flame, Fireball and Combustion can be cast while mounted. She can't set enemies on fire using the lighther when mounted however.

On the surface I stockpile embers at killer bee hives, or sometimes spiders at the start of a world or if the killer bee location is inconvenient. Once I have ~30 I find it's pretty difficult to run out unless I'm spamming one of the spells or not paying attention. Basing near a sinkhole is also nice because the batilisks provide a relatively steady supply of embers, guano for fuel, and meat (conveniently I also often play as/with Wigfrid who also benefits from a steady supply of batilisks).

In the caves I passively collect them from batilisks whenever I pass through their biomes and I find that's pretty much all I need. Sometimes I'll go still back to the surface to stockpile at the killer bee hives in prep for a ruin rush or something though.

This is the ember farm design I came up with and use:

You open the gates and put meat in the middle point of the farm. The friendly spiders will funnel to the clear area that is away from the dens, at which point I close the gates and cast combustion. One harvest of this farm usually gives me about 120-160 embers.
