Do you use the Ice Crystaleyezer? If yes, how?

I just place it and activate it in summer near my plants to avoid withering, I keep one far from base to get some iceeeee.

How do u get work done in its range like mining the ice? Thermal stone, clothing or do u just tank the cold? :crushed:

I purely use it to insta cool thermals.

That is all the use I can personally juice out of it, haha.

i didnt keep up to date when this was in beta and only recently got to making it after using the first thingy for a howlitzer and im so confused how it left beta in this state.

im guessing anti-withering and out of season ice really is as good as it gets?

And even then, brightshades encourage u to move big grass/twig farms underground anyway, if ur not using gekkos/gators/twiggy trees.

And i basically never use ice.. but perhaps having year round access to it would change that..?

This is so weird :wilson_cry: a reward could literally not be more late game than the three zomboss crafts and this is what we get.

Compared to the heaps of unchecked free power added through skill trees its so weird how many constraints r placed on the crystaleyezer and bearger bin.

I wish it were a proper winter simulator, but alas! Klei is adamant on it only really affecting these mechanics it seems.

I haven't properly farmed in a while so maybe the removal of natural drying on plots will be useful.

What would u include in this? I remember people suggesting mactusk igloo being supported year round but im not sure i see the use of that for anyone other than wanda. And even then this thing is so absurdly late game how many more tusks do u need at that point?

I also remember the pond freezing suggestion which sounds kinda neat as a way to get rid of mosquitos but it would just be exchanging one hassle for another.

I really dont understand why it has to be so unlivable in its radius. The benefits are so minute and the structure itself is so late game…

Grass geckos can not spawn in Winter, making harvesting without worry of geckos safe.

Mactusk is an obvious one.

Ponds freezing as you mentioned.

Bees not coming out when harvesting their bee boxes.

Winter Robins spawning.

Merms, (powder) monkeys will not go out in Winter.

And there's some of the more flavor based stuff such as decid trees losing their leaves and so on.

Now thing is, none of these are great. They're all pretty niche stuff, but that's something I would appreciate! I like the idea of a structure that does and 'activates' a lot of niche season interactions like these, I think having the Crystaleyezer be something that covers a bunch of perks/situations like these while the howlitzer and bearger bin specialize in their things would be very fun!

I adore the idea of a structure that just brings in Winter, downsides and upsides, but unfortunately, right now it's a most of the downsides(coldness) with not enough of a wide blanket of all the upsides and little interactions one could take advantage of. I would love to use a crystaleyezer in the midst of a bee farm, or a grass farm to prevent gecko spawns or harrassment, I can't see the appeal for mactusk since even as Wanda I probably get all the tusks I want at that point of the game, but I'm sure someone else would find use in that!

I feel that the wildfire protection on land aspect was overhyped and it would be better if it had a smaller radius so it takes less time to move out or close enough to a heat source to stop freezing.

As it is now placement in a build is best planned beforehand and it's more suited for Maxwell (who can access the resources inside the area without having to stay in it) and Warly.

Taking the eye out before mining is about 3 damage and placing it back after doesn't require you to freeze. The setups depend on what you want to use it for since it's more about weighing which option is least inconvenient.

There's also getting the Winter rate of spoilage of items and giant crops year round.

Okay yeah if it did all of these little things in addition to the current stuff it would actually be a nice and coherent structure. Currently its just so weird to me.

Would be really nice if ponds frozen this way would become inhospitable to Moose/Goose in spring! Finally a way to negate m/goose spawners close to base..

year round winter robins would make blow darts nicer to farm as Wicker  although i feel like the howlitzer has pretty much completely replaced azure darts.

I like to use them on brightshades to keep them perma frozen. Good for brightshade free farms, just keep a sunfish on you when harvesting

I went out and got some sunfish today in my Wormwood world after i read ur comment since it coincidentally was summer and yeah these things r definitely the way to go. Way less annoying than swapping to winter clothing and then still having to leave after a while.

In future non-wicker long term worlds ill keep this in mind and build my pet brightshade/farming area closer to the water for tin fishing bin access.

When playing Wickerbottom though, Tempering Temperatures is really nice too. Wearing CC crown and Hibearnation Vest will make it so ull get all ur sanity back from a read while ur still at like 15 degrees above freezing. Just tested it out now

Wurt and Wickerbottom seem to be the most suited to living within a Crystaleyezer.

i wonder if willow’s fire ball would be helpful?

Aha! See? That's something I really would potentially love about the Crystaleyezer if it activated everything related to Winter as a season, it'd reward your knowledge on Winter as a season, all these quirks and interactions, in wonderful Don't Starve fashion! That wasn't something I thought about at all.

I keep thinking of plopping a fridge near one to keep jerky in for even longer storage since it can't go in the polar bin. But it's such a non issue I keep forgetting.

I tried to negate the cold with furnaces on a creative world, but I just can't get the geometry right. I think I'm missing something and I'm too lazy to figure it out.

I have one single crystaleyezer near oasis, next to my Koalefant herd where I go fight hounds. Helps with overheating when they burst into flames, but I often end up freezing instead lol.
