Truffle
Us console folks have to sit through 160 days to fully unlock ONE characters skill tree. What % of the playerbase do you suppose just console commands everything? Edit: FYI I've fully unlocked Wilson, Woody, Wolfgang, and Wormwood's skill trees on PC without skipping days. Ohan
Ive always disliked this type of unlocking mechanic. I used console in DS:A too lol. If i want to play wickerbottom im not gonna let the game arbitrarily force me to spend time playing wilson which is not fun for me in order to unlock wicker… its so dumb. I play the game to have fun, not clock in my hours like im at a job in order to finally get to what i want. exact same thing now goes for skilltrees. for newbies who r new to the character or the game in general it might be fine but i have too many hrs in the game at this point to be forced to sit there and watch the day counter tick so i can play the new version of the survivor. i had 100s of hrs on worm prior to skilltree. Ive done 0-160+ days as him countless times. Being forced to do it again before i can play with the new stuff is silly. ECS.98
Yea, the problem here is the whole unlock mechanic in general. Waiting x days to get the points is not fun. I think the implementation would be much better if they actually required you to do things in the game and explore it. Wigfrid's skill tree has a little bit of that with the Headliner branch, but it still requires you to farm days for the insight points. When you've been in the game for so long, having to arbitrarily wait to try something new because the game wants you to wait is just lame, i've done this whole surviving countless times, i have worlds with hundreds of days that i could very easily just camp at my base for the 160 days required, but that wouldn't be fun. And this is also something that keeps us from actually testing the live update. 1 hour ago, cybers2001 said: People who have lives outside of this game shouldn't care too much about the skill trees, then? With the state this update launched after the beta, and Klei admitelly releasing it early in order to have time for bug fixes, it's not unreasonable to assume that people wanna jump into it to be able to properly test the live version to give any feedback while it's still relevant. Spawn in and stand somewhere safe, come back hours later and get free skill points. A massive amount now that it's been streamlined into a client mod personally I think they may as well rethink the unlock requirements if most players are going to bypass it. Evelo
I agree it does take too long, best way to do it illegitimately (but also legit because it is in the base game) is to set Temperature, Hunger, and Darkness damage to Nonlethal, turn off sanity monsters, houndwaves, giants, wildfires, frog rain, lightning, spiders, Pigs, frogs, all hostile creatures. Spawn in and go afk for 160 days. Is it boring? Yes. Can you do it while you are sleeping? Also yes. Would I like it to be changed to anything more engaging? Also yes. Mike23Ua
Here’s what you do, go to world Gen settings- toggle off the ability for darkness, weather, and hunger to kill you, toggle off hound waves and Deerclops, put the game in private mode so no one else can join, then go watch a movie or take a nap. You don’t need PC’s cheat commands or mods when you can just turn off the stuff that will kill you as actual game settings. There are some things you’ll still need to do to fully unlock the skills though- such as Affinity perks or blowing into Beefalo horn, etc… So it’s not a completely “free” ride, but it’s arguably close. Now enjoy your almost free skill point farming! <3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/153437-takes-to-long-to-max-out-skill-tree/#findComment-1689992 Share on other sites

I mean, if we're talking about ppl using console commands, are we going to start a thing about ppl using godmode / creative? or rollbacks? No matter what system Klei put in place it could be bypassed with a mod or console command. We can c_give whatever we want, doesn't mean the game shouldn't be designed around earning things. The trees are balanced around having them, but they implemented a method of obtaining points that gradually doles them out as a player experiences the game. An experienced player using a mod or console command to skip that does not invalidate their design any more then using creative and rollbacks to practice a boss. HowlVoid
The skill tree lacks any reward for a skilled player that already knows the game. I can understand a new player not feeling the passage of time too much if they're just learning the game. But it's too inclined in that direction. There needs to be an alternative way to unlock more skill points. At the very least, after unlocking a full skill tree the next one should come sooner. The balance is that its okay if you have them at world start b/c they are an account-level skill tree, not a per-world skill tree. There is no design conflict in this. If players want to use console commands to unlock all data in the compendium, plant and crock pot data, and skill trees that is their decision. Likewise if I use creative and console commands to construct a practice for a boss and use rollbacks to re-run it until I'm confident in the fight that is my decision. None of this matters b/c the game is balanced around me having all of this on worldgen anyway. Just b/c the game is balanced around that doesn't mean they need to give it to me free. tbh that is the slippery slope of cheating. "I'd have this anyway except for rng so I use a mod that fixes loot to be favorable." I mean do that if you want, but not on my server lol. They are balanced around having them all. So it doesn't matter if someone wants to use a console command to unlock them, they aren't violated game balance. That doesn't mean Klei needs to just give them to everyone for free. Bottom line. I feel like this sentiment comes from ppl hating that other players can get the perks they get as easily as just playing the game. It is not a great achievement to have all skill points. Get over it.
