All ponds should work like the ice fishing hole does.

On the iceberg, added with this beta, there is an ice fishing hole that is compatible with the ocean fishing rod. Upgrading ponds to work in a similar fashion would be cool.

Deprecating the freshwater fishing rod and migrating the pond fishing functionality to the ocean fishing rod (making it just an all around fishing rod) would make fishing a bit more approachable, especially for newer players.

That is all.

Thinking back on it, it is a little strange that we have two fishing rods still, the sea fishing rod just seems like a natural evolution. I feel that it'd be like keeping the old farms after the garden digamajig was introduced.

I did like fishing in the ice fishing hole! Wish there were more icebergs around the world with more fishing holes, would make a very cozy base idea!

Maybe freshwater fish are just stupi-

I mean I’m not sure how the lures/baits and floats/bobbers would work if you would even need them for it but maybe you would only need bait (so you can’t catch them for nothing) and bobbers could shorten the time between catches even further the higher quality they are.

I also see time of day specific spoons and spinnerbaits being used more often and they could have uses/durability to counter the problem of them lasting for eternity (unless they find it unnecessary maybe by making freshwater fishing more like ocean fishing which would probably be the best solution anyways)

I like pond fishing! I still do it all the time in my current worlds. I love ocean fishing too, but I'd rather they not make the pond fishing identical.
I'd appreciate a way to defrost them, maybe something mid/late-game, though.

Pond fishing and ice hole fishing are pretty much already identical in process aren't they? You wait until a fish is available, right click to hook the fish, and right click again to catch the fish. (The fish always being caught, since in a pond they will always be right next to you)

Maybe I am oversimplifying the difference between them, but unless I am missing something critical I don't see much being lost in consolidating the two.

it kinda makes sense we could crack the ponds open with a pickaxe or break it with gunpowder. If that breaks balance then let us crack em open with the pick/axe or brighshade smasher, and let the pond freeze back up again a couple of days in winter

do not agree

ocean fishing has disfunctionally poor feedback, punishes failure too highly, and most tragically has content hidden behind a crab
