W.A.R.B.I.S. could use Gears instead of Doodads

This is my Gears chest in a server with a WX main : 1.png.c6fdac0ee5b22a4e06c144001ebb7ef3.png

Need I say more, it's just that Electrical Doodads are probably not the best pick for the repair kit and armor set. I would prefer to use gears both for the global style of the W.A.R.B.I.S. stuff and finally get to use the big pile o' junks.

I'm happy to see that Hound's Tooths are gonna flow off storages thanks to the Howlitzer so if Gears could also get a consistent post-rift use it's be great. :distracted:

Edit : For clarification because it's insane to see so much cherry-picking out a preference, I don't have a problem with Doodads being in the recipe itself, so I could totally see them exist alongside gears in the armor recipe but I WANT to use gears more consistently, Doodads are already useful items and don't flood storages despite their small stack size. I like Doodads.

I could also see them being used as a shortcut for getting scrap (ex: 3 gears > 1 scrap) because tbh probably players will likely want shortcuts for them like for the static minigame after a while. It can be done well in many a way but the end result is to make gears more useful, let's achieve this.

Instead they should add other uses for gears.

Well, at least doodads are cheaper than gears. :encouragement:

I use gold and especially rocks on way too many other things to consider spending them on doodads for armor repair cheaper personally... so I really see this the other way around and a single ruin clearing shows it for the rest of your world lifetime. It's more gears than you will ever need due to their lack of utility. That's the ideal kinda use for them considering we're speaking late-game so everyone has the capacity of getting this ton of gears and ponders what to do with them.

Anyway the issue isn't the cost, both doodads and gears are similarly cheap (still you're making rocks more important than they are from start to finish, sigh...)
The principal ingredient to go after is the scrap which has quite the time barrier to find... so perhaps another solution would be to refine gears into scraps but I just wanna use gears. What other most fitting scenario could you dream about to use them then  At this rate other uses will just never happen if a theme like the W.A.R.B.I.S. isn't an excuse.

On a related note, if you guys ever played SW you might know that the Iron Wind is using gears for repairs, if it was using doodads instead it would hit so much differently, and wouldn't make gears as useful as they were in this DLC, I liked that a lot and still had no problems getting gears, just I had the feeling they were doing something yknow.

this is weird to say tbf

well I mean, although I sympathize with the idea that some players may find themselves using more resources rather than others out of preference for the things they are currently doing in their world, It doesn't change the fact that late game or even midgame, using stone and gold is fairly generous for what we could use to repair some late game armor.

Stones tend to come easy with stone fruit or even visiting the mosaic/meteor biome on a regular basis (or just when you need rocks) or heck even tree petrification. If some one has any access to ruins, meat or eggs, then pig king solves all gold issues.

->(unless of course you are wurt, then you either mine or set up fish trawlers near malbatross shoals and gather a bunch of "exchange fish")

I will admit however, if you really do have such a high surplus of gears it would be nice to have another use for them, I myself use excess gears to try and generate more gems when im in the ruins. I could be wrong but I have found that rebuilding the clockworks tends to reward more gems then when smashing them, at least statistically more then normal.

Yes that's right, Chess Junks drop two times what you get from destroying them if your repairs instead, and gives an extra gear sometimes, plus you can account what you get on top from the clockwork loot itself later.

And yeah this is precisely what I look forward, use them, making stone or gold happens by many mean but I wasn't waiting for the W.A.R.B.I.S. to do anything with them, you can do many things from these items (doesn't mean they won't accumulate such as PK gold, but there are options), gears in the other hand...

What to do with the Doodads from the Twins?

If they change it to gears what am i going to do with my mountain of gold?

Twins covers about my needs for Incomplete Experiments, usually I still need to craft the doodads manually for the other machines and items they're required for. So I consider its great that twins drop it and they'll never be an excess in my so far experience. As for gold it's about the same, as decorating goes I run out of it from time to time but that's without counting the trinket piles, I only convert when needed which saves space.

I'm gonna back you up on this one. Gears and Living Logs were originally rare and valuable but the devs eventually added many more ways to get them and cut their uses. I usually have an overflow of them in the late game. Even when I play WX, I have at least 3 stacks of them in the late game.

doodads are literally wagstaff's item of choice, they're used in pretty much all crafting recipes related to him

That's right but doesn't invalidate anything considering gears are items to lookout for as Wagstaff to build his best tools. For sure I'd qualify the W.A.R.B.I.S. one of his finest thing.

I haven't repaired broken clockworks in so damn long, if you do does the destructable clockwork remain on top of spawning a friendly one? If so I know what to start pouring my huge stockpile of gears into..
