I imagine we'll get the update first since they're probably not going to release a roadmap with a delayed update in the works but honestly this situation is getting worrying considering we're already going into February now...

Bro, I think this is the biggest beta ever in DST history, right? I don't even remember if it's ever been more than a month in beta, but this time it's going to be two and a half months. That's pretty crazy.

This is not the longest Beta. The beta of "Turn Of Tides" began in may and was released only in august

damn, I didn't remember it, but it really seems like this current one is heading towards staying for a similar amount of timeĀ and it really is a long time

Besides the size of the updates, bro, Turn of Tides was huge

You gotta also factor in the winter break, though. For us, it's been, what, 10 weeks, but for the devs they've been working on it a few weeks less than that. Still, yeah, such a long beta that I can't imagine that it's going to be more than a week more.

Where once such a long beta could have creat two new seasons, a epic ending for the ancients, or a new area with infinite possibilities, now we're just stuck with character update over and over, with the community bickering over which character has the bigger number.

Boring.

Hopefully this update will be released before next month.

I know I'm huffing extreme levels of cope at this point but perhaps the patch will release this thrusday giving us 2 weeks of testing the changes introduced and minor tweaks will be made leading into the update releasing on the 26th.

Friendly reminder, there’s either a Beta this Thursday, or there won’t be any additional beta testing at all. If Klei has plans to release their annual yearly Valentines Day skin (Bleh..)

Then next Thursday (February 13) is the Deadline for releasing that before or on V-Day.Ā

New areas with infinite possibilities and refreshing old areas would be the best for this game.

I hope the rifts will lead to even bigger changes in the world and new stuff, just like in hardmode terraria, but not quite.

cuz terraria mainly adds new enemies and loot, I see DST as adding new environmental threats, enemies and loot

Imagine if the Archives Portal was unsealed, and we could finally be able to travel do a different dimension.Ā
or if you could jump into the shadow rift, plunging yourself into the dimension of eternal darkness, finding outcrops of dreadstone, the Ancient Herald, etc.

That would be really cool! When Lunar Rifts wereĀ introduced i thought you could "entry" them and the whole world would be covered with lunar turf XDĀ

Because of technical stuff i guess? i don't think we will get another dimension because of another server shard but damn Ancient Herald really fits in dst in my opinion, bruh even his drop shares the same name like for Ink Blights "Dark tatters"Ā

Also about beta i think we can expect a patch for Walter, Wendy (and Wortox) in this thursday (?) If not the patch a roadmap would be niceĀ

Call me an idiot, but I don't even think it has to be this Thursday. Thursday isn't a holy day or something, they're perfectly capable of releasing on other days.

I've never seen a beta outside of Thursday. It would be a bad omen.

They said we'd be getting a roadmap soon like 2 weeks ago. Here's hoping it's this Thursday!

What is everyone hoping this year will be in terms of updates?

For me, I hope they expand the end game some more, but also don't neglect QOL and early game additions. I'd love to see where rifts go, hopefully a 'stage 2' thing will be introduced for more threats, items and bosses. But I understand they still have some work to do with the current rifts. They still have to do mob protection from lunar hail and add the 'lunar dust' mechanic, but I know they scrapped it and are looking for an alternative.

Yeah i can't really wait for lunar hail protection but about updates i would really like to see more stuff for lunar rifts maybe a new craftings with spark arks, QOL updates of course cause they are always fun, more enviroment things, mid game stuff

Btw can you tell more about lunar dust? First time i hear about this lol

The lunar dust was supposed to be similar to how acid rain interacts with the world. They made it so acid rain effects shroom trees, enemies, etc. And they wanted to do something similar with lunar hail where dust from the lunar glass would accumlate. But we don't know anything besides that because they scrapped that idea before we got to see anything implemented.

Edit: I actually don’t see a lot of problems with implementing more dimensions though. I have a low-medium end PC and it hosted a FOUR shard server using Island Adventures with no problem.

For me it would be nice to introduce some synergy between pre rift and post rift contents, because I feel like after I open the rifts, nearly all the crafts need only pure brilliance, pure horror, brightshade husk and dark tatters... Which makes the post-rift stuff feel like an epilogue of the pre-rift gameplay.Ā

It almost feels like that's the direction they're looking for, especially with Wortox's affinity skills each only working with one specific piece of gear or weapon that can easily become problematic if they add more lunar/shadow stuff. Post rift feels nothing like a step up from pre-rift gameplay yet, but at their current pace it's hard to say if that's what they're aiming for to begin with.

Final bet: the beta goes live this Thursday at latest, without waiting for feedback. Small changes to Wendy since they said "most" of her adjustments would be in the most recent one, possibly a slight nerfing of shadow Abigail since that's the one thing both buff-Wendy and nerf-Wendy sides seem to agree on. Both significant reworks of current Woby skills and a couple of new ones (also for Woby) for Walter. Minimal to no changes for Wortox.

Considering the remaining issues with Walter and the change that's been requested for Wortox for the longest this would be a massive disservice to both characters...
