Critters should not have the hungry sounds/animations

Recommended Posts

Klei seems intent on keeping the critters cosmetic, which I personally find alright and understandable. What I don't like, however, is the fact they have their own hunger mechanic, which does not serve anything for most critters other than to play the most annoying sounds in the game on loop until you are able to feed them. It's to a point where most usually use a mod to mute the sounds, or outright don't use critters at all.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they just didn't have the animations altogether. They don't really serve anything, and I don't think it would be a super negative change to not need to feed your critter anymore. The only exception is the mothling, which is why I proposed only removing the animations and not the hunger mechanic, as that can still be used to determine if critters who have perks have them active or not.

I do hope this isn't a drastic change. I like the lamb pet, but one of the reasons I stopped adopting critter 5-6 years ago was due to the hungry animations nagging me quite a bit, especially when I'm focusing on things like building.

Critters are only usable with a mod that disables their hunger. In general critters need an update, naming would be nice since Beefalo have that option. Each critter having perks would be nice too. If the Lune Moth can give potentially infinite light, why can't the Broodling cook things?

Just because it is infinite light doesn't make it worthwhile. Abigail is infinite light but the radius is so small it really isn't useful in the grand scheme of things.

This would not classify as a QoL however, but a rework.

eh I dont think we need full overhaul like what happend with farming. Just add something little but cute for each pet, kittycat increasing sanity for Wickerbottom, lil hound/Woby could bring you bone shards or laying meat on the ground.

I personally like feeding them. It gives them personality.

Removing the begging animations doesn't mean removing the ability to feed critters, how else would we get the fatso adjective for them :encouragement:
