The new moose is extremely effective against brightshades

Recommended Posts

I am not asking for some nerf or anything, just pointing it out to everyone. The moose makes brightshades so easy since the aoe from the slam is able to one shot multiple vines at once and defeat vines that try to attack you while you attack the bulb. The moose has potential to hit mutltiple brightshade plants at once if they are close enough for the aoe. The moose deals enough damage to mostly one cycle a brightshade. On top of this, it takes much less damage from them aswell. The 90% reduction applies to planar damage aswell, on top of the Planar defense the moose already has. In a scenario where 3 or more brightshades would cause pain and stress, the moose makes it a breeze. I think this makes Woodie very useful since the only other truly effective ways at clearing a big clump are merms and catapults, though these 3 options are still character exclusive.

Edit: The 3rd punch slam also has planar damage.

He's effective, but not as effective as the brightshade sword itself. Also, to transform against just 3 at one time is troublesome.

No he is much better, the aoe lets him take out multiple vines at once. Try it.

Yeah, I have. I've done it. I've also copped a lot of damage from one single interaction. It's good. I won't say it's not. It's just a big commitment to transform for a single interaction.

For 6 brightshades, it's good value to go moose. But for just 3? Seems like a good amount of trouble. Not just that, for each time brightshades are opened from the vine death, you're only killing one whole brightshade one round at a time if you're perfect.

Interestingly Walter's slingshot is quite good for dealing with brightshade infestations as well since you can skip the vine phase. I already noticed this from what I played Walter in uncompromising mode mod but despite how lackluster Walter's perk feel they actually tend to play out a lot better and feel more impactful when the world itself is more dangerous...at least before they removed his slingshot...

I think it would be a shorter list to list the foes new weremoose is not extremely effective against

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh ocean mobs except crab king. I will be honest the moose is actually really op for how cheap it is, though it is fun.

Winona's catapults is what i meant. Walter uses a slingshot.

I’ll still take a form overpreforming then underperforming any day. Moose prior to the tree was extremely niche, and still has quite a few downsides (most notably not being able to equip anything and being completely reliant on jellybeans/Wortox souls for more healing in combat), so I do feel it’s in a good spot. Plus, it gives a good opportunity to hear the unique theme it has :P

I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how cheap the idols are later on. Whenever you get a depth work wave, you can make 4-6 idols of your choosing, and still make a respectable amount from hound waves. Combined with the fact they no longer spoil, it’s pretty easy to stockpile a large supply of whatever idol you need.
