The bigger picture

Some snippets from the post JoeW made before the 'Taking Root''s release:

I recently thought up of this post again and it got me thinking:

We now have the Shadow Rifts; and we know that there are skill trees to come.

Does this bigger picture feel any better? Were the shadow rift's gear and 3 character's skill trees supposed to make the endless waves of Brightshades make sense? Or was Klei considering delaying the update until December, when all charcters' re-refreshes will be complete.

I dunno, I just feel like this feels... wrong...? I mean, now both the caves and the surface are misserable after defeating their endgame bosses. Is this the cohesive experience that Klei wants us to have?

I'm a little worried about that. But it's not that they're meaningless, it's that they're too useful. Because they seem to be just normal weapons and armor with higher data, with no creative new function. The only way to make them sense seems to be to add a more powerful monster with higher data and then let us fight it.

In the past, players' interactions with mobs in the world were varied, with mobs fighting each other, eating, sleeping, running away, interacting with their own kind, and interacting with the weather. Players can shave them, tame them, transport them, befriend them, and use them. Even combat has different ways to go, like traps, freezes, fire, featured items, and more.

Simplest action combat, "Attack the target and dodge the target's attack" is not the most appealing part of the game, at least not for me. But from the current brightshade and ink blight, they seem to be designed only for simple action combat with the player... and doesn't take into account interaction with the whole world.

I'm  worried that's the end of the new gameplay we'll get in a post-Rift world. or worse, if that's all there is to it, they don't even give different characters the ability to access them equally.

My concerns of weapon/armor obsoletion and why the new items are utterly basic have been overshadowed by the realization that fuelweaver and celestial champion are so unapproachable that discussing content occurring after it just seems as pointless.

Giving each character a unique weapon/armor utility has potential for players that can access them.

The devs wrote that more monsters / things will arrive through the portals. Hopefully in a manner that keeps both the new and old weapons useful.

If the new enemies don't get planar_defence.=999, then yes, the old weapons will become more attractive than the new repaired and infinite weapons.
