bones_
Exactly as stated in the title. Why isn't silk flammable? It feels kinda bizarre that it won't burn, but something like stingers will; this is doubly true considering spider dens burn and don't drop silk when burnt. Is there some sort of ancient quirk of the game that never got changed? Is there a gameplay reason, like players often killing spiders with fire and still wanting to reward them with silk? It's very bizarre! I think about this because I often have it build up when using spiders for monster meat, and subsequently have a mountain of useless silk. It would be nice (and make a lot of sense) if you could use it to fuel a fire, but even just burning it to ash would give you an easy way to get rid of excess. It would feel a bit cool to burn silk to ash and use that ash to make healing salve with the spider glands you get from the same source.
Captain_Rage
Torches lying on the ground are also incombustible while Scaled Flooring as an item can be added as fuel to a fire. Video game logic / balance reasons at its finest. xd Thermal Stones and Marble Suits float in water on top of that. Long ago Stingers got changed from being incombustible to combustible. This was probably done for performance reasons. Other than Stingers I don't recall any item receiving such change.

Tranoze
Because sciences. Spider den burn because there are gland in it, and the heat destroy silk in progress, like all burn structures that require silk as ingridient also destroy silk during the burning. But silk by itself cant ignite into fire.
Cheggf
Whenever I play videogames I just see things how they are. I never considered the flammability of silk before, just that it isn't flammable, and if they changed it to be flammable it would feel weird to me even though objectively speaking it would make more sense due to both the flammability of dens and the flammability of silk in real life. Falkenpelz
I have nothing productive to contribute. However, I read this as "Why isn't milk flammable?" and went ???
