Complaining about pirate raids

At least with hounds though it's guaranteed spawn after a certain amount of time has passed, with monkeys I might waste a bunch of time getting bananas only for them to not show up.

First you are bothered by them spawning, then you are bothered by them not spawning. It's like bringing extra healing to a boss fight, except with bananas you can also turn them into Banana Shakes.

Having them spawn regularly would be an even greater tax on resources if you aren't going to use a mod to predict before they come and jump on land to dodge them.

As for sharks, while they are annoying, they're still much more manageable than having your boat get knocked around, boat patches coming undone, items being stolen, and having to kite upwards of 5 enemies in an incredibly cramped space, and if you kill any of them you permanently lose an inventory slot until you visit their stupid island.

This is making up worst case scenarios as if you weren't prepared. Would you rather have a shark show up to Crab King or have bananas on boat that let you effectively ignore a pirate raid and continue what you were doing? If you are lucky that the raid doesn't spawn from behind you the claws and geysers can also deal with them.

And that is a good point. Why do some worlds have to deal with Crab King pirates while others don't? Crab King seems like a big enough investment to warrant pirate raid immunity (via timer, flares should still work).

I'm not gonna go on a boat with 100 stacks of Rot, not even with Wormwood. I'd just bring the damn 5 Bananas.

For raids specifically they don't try to fill their whole inventory before leaving. I'm not sure how it works.

I'm a bit perplexed that so many of you complain about pirates and sharks. I never get them when I sail and quite frankly, I'm a little concerned.
Anyway, as wigfrid I just tank them. Either group of mob fails to continue with their free trial of life if they're tanked by wigfrid.

You're just lucky. Whenever I try to sail I get one Rockjaw a day on average. And when I leave Moon Quay I have at least one bunch of smelly apes harass my boat.

The monkey raids are so strange i rowed back and forth from the moon quay and no raids but one time I'm delivering pieces to moon island they attack me because it just happened to be on the edge of their range

Pirate monkey is a great example of why you shouldn't overcomplicate game mechanics. They were a neat idea that could've been fun. Monkeys that raid your boat, you fight them and get their loot. That's it. But no, they had to add another system on top of that, which completely ruined the interaction. I think we'd have a lot less complaints if the raids didn't drop any trinkets.

To prevent the curse trinkets, you have to think creatively. It wouldn't be more fun if the only thing you needed to do was holding F when they board. That would be boring.

up there with disease and wildfires

The number of times I've had to revert back to a local backup because something in my Oasis build just happened to start smoldering outside my screen within 3 seconds because I wanted to go and actually leave my base to do something during summer instead of just sitting around doing jack sh*t and forgot oh wait you can't do that during the day. Yeah yeah just leave your base at night, but no this has to be the single most opaque mechanic in the game. Imagine the facial expression the first time someone's entire Oasis base burns without them even realizing or knowing this was possible in the first place. They might have just lost hundreds or even thousands of days because they didn't understand the exact precise and technical workings of a game mechanic which no one ever told them. It ironically almost seems like the devs want you to make a base with a flingo outside of the Oasis for summer if you plan on staying on the surface.

hitting their boat with a cannon

Don't you need to have already been to the monkey island to prototype the cannon? That's not a very good test of preparedness. I mean, it's not the only way to deal with them without having them take everything from you and shove it into a stash that will obliterate your hard-earned items if it gets too full, or even the only way that involves ranged combat since fire staves exist, but still not a good example.

That's for having more options after visiting Moon Quay so it should be less of an issue, especially with the Banana Bushes you'd get. I don't put cannons on my main boat with having to prepare another item to use it and the risk of collateral damage. I find it simpler to drop bananas, if not kill the monkeys and plan a trip to Moon Quay.

There ought to be a better solution to the stash limit, whether by creating new stashes if one gets full or some other kind of sustainable storage. Also wouldn't hurt to get better items out of it as it looks more like an indirect way to get blueprints.
