MrMNWorm
Hello Everyone, Just wanted to drop a post after seeing the hotfix for the new beta. Main concerns seem to be dealing with the boulders and acid rain during the rifts. There is one idea that’s been getting some traction that I personally really like… Pillars of Protection™. @ADM posted about having pillars or columns that will provide “safety zones” from falling debris… dude… I love that idea. Then @Creatorofswamps added a photo of the current pillars… including a picture of a Mushroom Pillar that I had never seen before… hmmm… what if that could absorb the acid rain. Finally, @Mysterious box mentioned that the pillars should be repairable because they would degrade with each cave-in or Antlion attack… yooo… that’s a good mechanic functionality. So here’s what I came up with, curious to see what people think about it. Tier 1 Pillar: Thulecite Pillars - Cost: 10 Thulecite + 10 Cut Stones - Degradation: Has 6 uses (a "use" being every time a cave-in or Antlion boulder attack occurs), every 2 uses it degrades one level. Can be repaired with Thulecite. - Appearance: Similar to the Archive Pillars but thinner - Coverage: 5 tile radius - How to Obtain the Blueprint: Since we find pillars in the Archives that protect us from falling debris… what if there was a 4th Fountain of Knowledge in there that would grant a Thulecite Pillar blueprint after completing the Archive Puzzle. It’s pretty fun solving those puzzles… I wouldn’t hate doing another one. - Pros: Pretty easy to get the blueprint, looks really cool… especially if they could be built topside where they would never degrade/require repairing. - Cons: Requires frequent repairs from expensive materials (if placed in the Caves/Ruins) Tier 2 Pillar: Dreadstone Pillars - Cost: 10 Dreadstone + 10 Marble - Degradation: 12 uses, every 4 uses degrades one level, repaired with Dreadstones. - Appearance: Because I absolutely LOVE the new Dreadstone Walls, something similar to those but a little girthier than the Thulecite Pillars. - Coverage: 7 tile radius - How to Obtain the Blueprint: Okay… so obviously this should come from the Werepig fight even though he is now chock full of blueprints. So maybe the blueprint has a 25% chance to drop. - Pros: Fairly durable, great aesthetic for Caves/Ruins bases, good reason to keep fighting the Werepig. - Cons: Unless you’re a Shadow Aligned Wilson, might be a little tricky getting a surplus of Dreadstone for repairs. Tier 3 Pillar: Mushroom Pillars - Cost: 10 Living Logs + 10 Boards + 5 NMF - Degradation: 18 uses, every 6 uses degrades one level, repaired with Living Logs. - Appearance: Pretty much just use that picture CreatorofSwamps showed us. - Coverage: 9 tile radius - How to Obtain the Blueprint: Since the Toad fights involve cave-ins and poison spores (poison… acid… pretty much the same thing) what if the Toadstool fight had a 10% chance to drop the blueprint and the Misery Toad had a 50% chance. Now there’s a reason to fight the Toads more than once. Pros: Super durable, fairly renewable materials for repairs (Wormwood + a Tent in the Caves + a stack of cooked Bananas = tons of Living Logs, MinerToast taught me that), and… ABSORBS THE ACID RAIN aka offers a circle free from acid rain. If this pillar stops cave-ins, boulders, and the acid rain… the original format of the beta could be put back into play… which I personally thought was pretty solid as-is… and with these pillars… it’s dang near perfect. Cons: Gotta fight the Toadstool/Misery Toad a couple of times. Now yes, this is a ton of work and no way it’s ALL getting done before the release date deadline. But… what if the hotfix changes got reverted to the original version of the beta and the Devs try to knock out the Thulecite Pillar real quick? Then the other pillars could be added in the next update(s). I think these pillars offer a fun solution to the boulders and acid rain, could be used creatively for topside base decorations, and are a great opportunity for VERY desirable skin options… aka future revenue opportunities. Thank you for your time and consideration, as always thoughts and feedback are appreciated. Sincerely, MrWorm PS: I like to base in the Ruins... and would love to add some pillars to my Maxwell MiniMegaBase build... to protect the Bunnies. Creatorofswamps
Thank you so much for collecting everything here and adding interesting solutions and methods! Mysterious box
Some of the recipes might be a bit too expensive and the use amount per equake might be too low but otherwise it's a really good draft!
Baark0
If we're going to have tiers of these then at least one should be a permanent solution, make it ridiculously expensive if you have to, just give me an option to get rid of earthquakes permanently in an area. Notecja
I so badly want just pillars. So badly. I really, really hope devs will introduce that idea in that or other way.

How about the most expensive variant make it last extremely long instead? Edit: we can also add skins that make all pillars look like different tiers if we want a specific look without tying them to the tiers.

BB Marioni
Pass. Having an earthquake flingo matic is not the way I would tackle the earthquakes. They're fine as they are now. They are intended to deal damage to a player and not destroy structures. The counter to them is by running around to dodge. Sure you can stay in base to avoid the big boulders. you will still have to dodge the small ones as usual. You can also CHOOSE to have them as resources for rocks by going out of your base and trigger them. Also can be used as base decor or walls. As for the acid rain. They may have gone a bit too much by making the armors give acid immunity. the reduction in durability damage was a step to the right direction. I guess their intention was to promote wearing the full set while fighting, which means you need some protection from the rain while wearing the full set. It did however, make the umbralla useless since you can just have the helm on to protect yourself. An ideal scenario I think, would be using the umbralla when exploring under the rain, then switching to an eyebrella/ raincoat when doing stuff like fighting/ mining/ etc. Which was very expensive to do previously due to the amount of sewing kits needed, but now is a viable strategy. Also, please dont spread false info about "the enire community supports the idea of pillars". No, we don't

No, we don't No one talked about everything on the forum, there will always be dissenters, but a solid part of the forum approves of this idea. + protecting pillars from boulders has more logic than the fact that stones don't fall on buildings because they don't want to
