What are your thoughts on the new beta update?

earthquake boulders are the worst addition klei has ever added. everyone hates wildfires because they are extremely annoying to deal with and constantly threaten their base, and now caves have a year round mechanic that threatens bases with even less counterplay than wildfires

But only after you upgrade portal

Pretty much put all my thoughts in the "Shouldn't we WANT to do new content?" topic I made.

But to summarize, I am really very concerned with the direction these updates are taking. They add "challenges" that do nothing but make the game more annoying while offering new items that are at best tiny upgrades to what we already have and at worst completely pointless.

I appreciate what they're trying to do in terms of lore and stuff, but it's just annoying and pointless, and it makes me feel like a chump for even doing it.

Can not agree more.  I can deal with the acid rain. I can deal with the nitre  covering the ponds.   Boulders destroying the base is worse.   The antlion's summer boulders seem to have more time to run out of the base.  These random boulders destroy everything.

scrapbook is good concept, the popup is annoying and needs to be turned into a compendium item like cookbook/gardeneer hats

scythe is the best and most interestingly designed item added in both rift updates, i just wish its ramping damage mechanic wasn't bound to the void armor

void armor looks cool, wish the characters who dont have visible noses/have non human noses didnt have the silhouette of a nose when facing sideways

boulders spawning from earthquakes shows progression of your world which i think is cool, but there needs to be a way to protect from them, as cave basing will be a nightmare if it goes live in it's current state

acid rain is weird. while the concept is cool, the execution makes it feel terrible, as the only ways to deal with it are to 1) go to surface and wait the rain out, 2) use beefalo or 3) manage umbralla along with light and potentially armor and weapons/tools. i dont think it will be as bad if you have access to the lunar crown (assuming that doesnt degrade under acid rain), however its a little weird that shadows of all things are causing acid rain.

dreadstone walls look awesome and i cant wait to build with them, hopefully they arent too expensive or are crafted in large amounts

miasma shouldnt damage you while wearing full brightshade gear, otherwise why does the helm even have the goggles effect when a simple torch does the job better since it actually removes the damage.

edit: forgot about item pick sounds. i like it, it'll take a while to get used to but ill manage, what i like less is how only some items got changed. either all item's pick sounds should be changed or none should

I can’t play in betas, but my logical way of thinking assumes that these boulders (which can only start spawning by beating a end game level boss and then giving Charlie an Item to trigger them) arent the same as Ant-Lion boulders right?

Like Logically it makes sense that these new boulders would be carrying valuable resources (because they’re triggered by a more intense force) so rarer or even brand new Minerals should be able to be mined from these.

Such as Gems, or Pure Horror, maybe even tiny “shards” of Pure Brilliance that can be combined into 1 pure brilliance? I just picture the new boulders that are only triggered super late onto the game, being a little more than just Antlion boulders cranked up to 11.

well, currently they are no different than Antlion's.
