Malfario Posted June 2 Share Posted June 2 Acid rain by my testing seems to absolutly demolish the durability of helmets and rain protection gear, being the new shadow umbrella the only way to be completly protected with a long lasting item. I really love the idea of acid rain, from the last update, the events happening after enabling "hard mode" on the caves are a lot more interesting than the spaming of three brigth shades in any are with decorative berry bushes. For example the nitre formations on the eel pounds that from after it rains for a bit. However my main concern is the lack of ways in wich we can fight the rain, sure, we have the umbrella, but that costs us the hand slot, at the moment is imposible to have any protection from the rain while fighting on the caves, and thats kind of a bummer because the caves also have the requirement of needing ligt. moogles+ body armor+umbrella/weapon/cane feels a bit sketchy. This could also raise the question that if we are reaching the point in which the eqipment slots of the survivors are starting to not be enough, but thats a discussion for another time, becuase i wouldnt be surprised if on future updates we get said new slots. I think the way to go would be just by adding new ways in which the player can counter it. For example: -A staff that summoned a force shield in which the rain couldnt go pass throu, this shield would also protect from regular rain so it could used for boss fights in spring. -Make the new armor offer complete protection from the rain, only one piece needed for the 100% protection. -been able to make "roofs", really expensive structures that protected an area of the rain, similar to how the archives work. And of course, Please make it so the acid rain raises wetness, not being able to use morning star or electric volt goat jelly efectevely in the caves is horrible please i beg you. No no.. On these forums there seem to an obsession about making everything as pointlessly tedious and absolutely not rewarding as it is humanly possible. I never undestood that. What is wrong with having a rewarding challenge? I thought games meant to be fun. Even the harderst unforgiving games reward you for your efforts instead giving you the finger. I think there are times when that is fine, but it really depends on how its constructed. There is no reward for going through rain, winter's cold or summer's heat. There are, however, many ways of managing these you can prepare ahead of time and many fun things to do (and yes, rewards to gather) while these seasonal effects are in place. The gates are entirely self contained content right now, I wouldn't even call what they give you "rewards" since they mostly deal with dealing with themselves. If there were no new resources generated by these portals, but all of the resources we already generated and gear we already had access to were used to confront them, I don't think much would be different really. There's nothing wrong with getting rewards but every single step of the way shouldn't have to keep throwing rewards for every step you take right? Game rewards should have some pacing between not just ok something showed up now give me different rewards on steps 3, 4, and 5. Edit: To further clarify this is like if we asked for multiple rewards for turning on the moon storms not defeating celestial champion but just turning on the moon storms. And more solutions to tackle it. Irl acid rain "burns" biological material - hence in-game it could hamper (or even wither) things like Grass Tufts, Saplings, Twiggy Trees, Trees in general - or could mutate them into some mechanically-interesting variants. Same for animals: either induce certain "pseudo-zombification"/"berserk" state (disease), chip at their hp but make them violent (even passive mobs) & more powerful (new attacks?!) - for now this seems to be the case with Batilisks - or actually have them dying from this condition. Yet, bons need to be present likewise. As stated, new ways to tackle this challenge, not solely to "brute force" through it via 1 "shadow umbrella". Also I don't know why KLei shies so much from having old items upgrade-able - take Eyebrella for example: via new Pure Horror/Dark Tatters & some new boss item, alchemically combine them all into a new article that protects from Acid Rain and does 1-2 more actions; even better - requiring further player action/input to have said 1-2 more bons. Furthermore, if we're going the "inspirational way" of AG rework plus "Acid Rain" (from Uncompromising Mod) or Walter & Woby (from Walker & Wollie), KLei devs may take a look at how [DST] Legion uses its plants in magic. Or Myth Words Theme and its Alchemy Furnace mechanic. But please do make this "Acid Rain season" a worthwhile one, complex and fun beyond "it destroys your clothes and makes Nitre, have this dark umbrella and do a backflip of joy for your assured survival".
