It's as if Wilson already knew the first level of science because everything I needed he could do without having to look around the world. He is also great at inventory management, as he can get rid of leftover resources if you don't have the courage to get rid of them. Spoiler I think I'm a hoarder... He is also perfect for those who enter late worlds, as he can transmute the resources he needs even if other players have already taken everything (or almost) on the map. I didn't finish acquiring all the skill points, but Wilson is too OP so I lost the will to play with him. He's a great character and makes things really easy and simple, (Even if maybe that's debatable) I don't expect to be heard I'm just wanting to express how happy I am with this rework. Now it's time to travel in mayonnaise. Spoiler It would be interesting if the ability to throw the torch was unlocked only if you completed the light ray branch. And the torch duration branch unlocks only the ability to increase the Morning Star's durability And on the beard tree. By choosing thermal insulation path and acquiring the 3 skills of that branch, make you start the worlds with a beard at the maximum level. It would be great to start a late world in winter, especially. And by choosing the 3 levels in the beard growth speed branch you would unlock the beard storages. Evelo Posted March 22, 2023 Share Posted March 22, 2023 Yea Wilson is an interesting fella. I played a Long Winter game as Wilson and the extra Insulation really pushed him into absurdity. Wearing a Puffy Vest with Beefalo Hat and Full Beard with the perks made it so I just needed to warm up once every 3 days. It did make the game less interesting of a challenge. I’m pretty sure that was Klei’s intentions all along. And if you read the 2023 Roadmap they provide a logical reasoning as to why. The Roadmap clearly states that the updates that come out this year will focus on easier pick up & play of the early game, but harder to master late game. Stating that there would be new challenges that takeover the world as the game progresses. You only feel it made the game too easy for NOW because Klei hasn’t added any new weather seasons, or progressive difficulty. Also I really enjoy the torch skill tree and the transmute sticks to logs/logs to sticks- these two perks play well into one another. The opposite transmutation is also very good, I was exploring an area with no trees and was almost freezing, so I made logs from twigs and created a campfire to survive the night. The reworked Wilson is not OP, he is resourceful, which I think it's fitting. In my opinion it's amazing, just did a test in the middle of winter with just a fully decked out beard. Wilson lasted 6 minutes and 30 seconds after eating a fire nettle before freezing started with no thermal stone, no winter gear of any kind and far away from any heat sources. That means as Wilson you need to eat a fire nettle once a day and do absolutely nothing else and winter is autumn 2.0. The beard's extra insulation has several advantages and is really good, my guess on to why it's not being praised is because, as most things Wilson got, are "good, but not the best". EG: For winter you have WX, which can modify itself to just never freeze without any other item. This would probably be the best "perk" in terms of removing the cold's nuisance for good. Second best I guess it's Wurt, its somewhat harder to reach the point because catching seasonal fishes suck, but she can change between 3-4 sun fishes and never need to heat up. You can even bundle the fishes if you don't want to go back to let them heal in the tin bin immediately, each time you switch them. So tier 3 beard is not really gamebreaking comparing it to what other characters have, but it still does not deny that its a very good thing. When it comes to WX, you sacrifice speed in order to have that circuit and that's a really hard sell. In other words, it's a compromise with other abilities. With Wilson most people want to have beard storage in any case, so those insulation points dont really make you lose out on anything. With Wurt those fish dont last long and it's a very gimmicky way with a lot of setup and stress over your fishes dying when you forget about them for an extra minute. Honestly, with a full insulation beard and a fire nettle farm (very easy to setup with LotFF) the hassle is just much less than with the other two. At least in my opinion. EDIT: Forgot about fish lasting 4 times as long when held by Wurt, it's not bad. Still a lot of setup though. Doubles as ease of access too! BUT, my biggest grip, when I pick up food that I already have in my beard, it defaults to my MAIN INVENTORY. Klei plz. The game never seems to run out of trees to burn.
