My dreadstone armor rework

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of new armor, but uniqueness wouldn't hurt. Dredstone is described as a cold, sticky, metamorphic stone.
In theory, we can glue new stones in place and strengthen the strength there. And pure horror consumes them, making new stones one with the armor.

When absorbed, the armor starts to glow and doubles your sanity consumption. After the repair is completed, the light will disappear and the mind will fall as usual. For a complete repair, you need to use about 3 dreadstones/pure horror and it will take 1 game day. Armor can only be regenerated if the character is wearing it, so regeneration requires a lot of sanity

i mb would probably add some other visual sign that the repair is in progress, like particles of horror flying around the armor

It seems kind of redunant to have a repair mechanic if you need to fight the boss again to actually get dreadstone.

In any case, this should be done, but it can be adjusted so that 3 stones are needed for full recovery. Wilson can also do dreadstone

Wilson can only craft dreadstone from the fuel, which also requires fighting the boss. I feel like the point of a repair mechanic would be to allow the armour to be used without constantly fighting the boss, otherwise you may as well just make new armour. Sure, you might save some resources, but in that case you may as well just reduce the crafting cost for the same effect.

Agreed. Since you can make the armor anywhere once you've learned the bp, it seems like there is little point in repairing it if it's gonna cost insane sanity and also more materials. This mechanic would be better fit for say thulecite gear since you need the station to make new ones.

3 columns give 9 dreadstones in the worst case. This is just enough for mining 1 armor and full repair, and no one interferes with using the amulet, thereby having stones for repair 2 times, and considering the amount of hp in this armor, it takes a very long time to break it

by my calculations it takes 80 sanity to recover 33% and half a day

Well, or 53 sanity to recover 33%, if full regeneration will be in 1 day

Then what is the point of adding a new boss if you need to kill it 1 time and forget about its existence. The regeneration mechanic eliminates the need to use other resources to craft new armor, and also provides some light

Well, that sounds like more of an issue with the idea of making it repairable. But that's assuming you want the boss to be fought repeatedly in the first place, plenty of bosses have drops that can be duplicated easily or last forever/can be repaired, like toadstool, dfly, malbatross, crab king, bearger, deerclops, antlion, etc.

plus the good thing over other armors is being able to craft it on the go. That wont matter if you could repair it...

My hope is that the resources will eventually be used for other things besides just armor. Otherwise, would stick with thulecite/bone and not even bother fighting it the first time.
